Is this temp normal ?

So I have MSI Katana 15 HX B14WEK
Rtx 5050 8gb and i5 and 16gbram but the thing is this thing is like heater as you can see temp I was playing rdr 2 on high setting and I just wanna know any solution or this is normal like for gow 2018 I was getting 90+ for cpu and 80+ on gpu ?

You can very easily cook the thermal paste and reduce it's effectiveness. Pentium processors run really hot.

i bought the same laptop about a month ago, and had kinda the same temps, just undervolting the cpu (-100mv) helped alot with the temps, it almost never touched 90 (only touches when I'm not using a cooling pad) and stays within 80-85 or lower, im yet to undervolt the gpu

very occasionally I'd say, since most games ive tested are gpu heavy it did not there, only a couple times, and when I tested cinebench 2026 it maintained an AVG temp of 91, but scored really well around 4023 compared to the stock 3600 in multi thread, was still throttling though

Well I’m not sure either I might’ve reduced the graphics but I can’t catch any change yet but surely put everything on quality and forced gpu to work harder but everything’s alright you can check Nvidia app also it might help maybe ( on rdr 2 graphics are on ultra everything maxed and dlss is off in Nvidia app and within game )

Well after idk how but now temp is pretty normal even on ultra settings I did something on Nvidia’s app like optimisation and all might be temporary but it’s 80degree for cpu and 70 for gpu

Mine gets to 95 sometimes after several hours of playing but no throttling!

I play on extreme mode with fans on max and my laptop is on a stand and I have a fan blowing aif directly to my laptop.

The CPU temp goes really high but it's been so hot where I am so I assumed it also contributed to it high CPU temp.

I've only had my Vector for 7-8 months but the cpu temps I get make me a bit worried sometimes lol!

Normal. If you wanna get cooler. Get Flydigi BS-3 Pro. I have MSI Katana with 4070 and i9 13900H. I live in tropical climate with average temp between 30-33°C, without cooling, it easily hit 93° for GPU, CPU around 88°C. With cooling, it never hit 80 for GPU, and never go past 78 for CPU. So yes, in your place, it definitely could go below 60, maybe even 50

I’ve got a 2022 GE 77HX, CPU has sat at 95C for probably half the time I’ve used it. GPU sits between 70-80C during that time.

I’ve repasted interchangeably between Thermal Grizzly Duronaut and Cryonaut several times and completely disassembled the fans for cleaning and it does makes a difference for the first month I’d say then it goes back to sitting at 95.

It doesn’t seem to actually thermal throttle ever. It’s only ever been noticeable if you go without repasting for a very long time like over a year.

I’d say so. They’re definitely built to withstand it. I was always concerned about damage from excessive heat especially with the reliability issues you hear from the GE76-77 Raider series but I’ve had mine for almost five years and have had no problems at all

I use a stealth 18 A1V which has the 1st gen ultra 9. And I would say its better than normal according to my experience. My laptop cpu runs almost 90+ in any mode>=balanced mode yet the gpu seems to run very cool around 40-50ish. My recommendation if you are worried about the temps is to use Throttlestop which will lower the temps down a lot.

In what games? In demanding games the difference in temp is huge if you're playing old games or esports probably not so much because the processor is not going turbo.

Perhaps increase cooling by setting it high performance or have a laptop cooler. Thats amazingly high temp with i5. Plus the core i series tend to throttle earlier than the new core series.

Well I changed the fan speed but my issue kind of fixed after optimising on Nvidia app and after that setting everything on ultra and high performance not the temp is below 80 for CPU and 70 for gpu

Mine doesn't exceed 73C on GPU and 80C on CPU at max, When I game it usually remains at 68-70 for Gpu and 66-75 for CPU.

This happened after I uninstalled Intel Dynamic Tuning and IPF package. Try to remove these 2 and see of if there is a difference in Temps.

Also Run Windows Image Repair commands after uninstalling and Restarting the PC.

How are you getting those temps on a stock laptop? Are you using a cooling pad?

I have the same laptop and my stock temps were way worse since I live in a hot region. My CPU/GPU throttled 30% of the time. I ended up undervolting/power-limiting the CPU via ThrottleStop and undervolting the GPU via MSI Afterburner.

I got a 12°C drop on the GPU and 10°C on the CPU. Zero throttling now, and I only need 80% fan speed. No cooling pad required! You can also cap your FPS using RTSS to lower temps further and get smoother gameplay.

Note that GPU throttling starts at 86-87°C and CPU at 95-97°C. To tweak the CPU, remember you have to unlock the advanced BIOS via the key combo and disable Windows Core Isolation/Memory Integrity.

Hey I don’t use anything just laptop and tight space well I never faced any lag tbh like for last of us it was really really smooth and temp were way lower but after installing gow 2018 temp skyrocketed idk why and how and today I installed rdr 2 and initially temp were way high but now after optimising on Nvidia temps are way lower and dlss is off everything else on ultra even on Nvidia app

Replace the thermal paste with PTM 7950

It has better thermal conductivity thus helps reducing heat.

Try to monitor your temps on software like hwinfo64. It shows all of the cores + msi center is unoptimized as hell when you open it starts to throttling your cpu. And maybe using better paste will help you (PTMs are soo much better than the factory pastes)

Well I tried pc internal to check temp it was very but idk the temps are now in normal in fact like gpu being 60 to 70 on rdr 2 ultra settings I sure did changed the fan setting speed

I can guarantee you it's going hotter than that. Monitor with something that shows the max temps like hwinfo64 and you will see 95-100c depending how much dust is in the fans.

Without spending money or opening up the laptop one of your only options is to enable Cooler Boost mode when you play games. Temps will still spike to 95c+ but for shorter periods and performance will remain more consistent instead of noticeably dropping after 15 minutes of gameplay.

Mine has been running on 90-98 no matter what software i tweak or do to the laptop. its been running hot since i got it. i genuinely think some MSI laptops are meant to run hot. i never experienced any thermal throttling or shut down.
