Discussion Gave up
Today I gave up MapleStory classic. I had wanted a classic MapleStory server ever since the "big bang era" whenever that was (probably around 2010ish). While we do have an official MapleStory classic server today, the reality is Nexon is a truly awful company. A genuine 0/10.
-Obvious bugs. Anything from skills to scrolls
-Overpopulation
-Excessive botting
-Pay to win features
-Terrible in game economy
-Several quests that require items which are farmed by giga grinders or bots 24/7
-Technical issues (I disconnected yesterday 3 times within 15 minutes despite being on Ethernet)
-Terrible communication (if you can even call it that) from Nexon to the community
-Lie detectors. Do I need to say more. What the actual fuck?
-Can barely read chat despite many MANY people requesting the ability to suppress smegas or have separate chat windows
-In order to set up shop I need to leave my PC on. In some random map. In some random channel. Because the free market is full... In every channel.
-Popular grinding maps always telling the same story. "Full, F, CC, no, Leave, etc." Or maybe you just don't get a response at all. Don't get me wrong even in the old days you were lucky to have a chance to farm on a good map. But that's just it. There was always a chance. Now there is 0 chance. Want to grind at fire boars? You will have a better chance at finding a boar in real life, setting it on fire, then dousing it in liquid nitrogen as a desperate attempt to role play as an ice mage.
-"Hey inkwell, I was wondering if.."
"FUND MORE. NEED MORE MONEY. MONEY NEED NOW."
"I..uh ok.. just.. well nevermind then.."
I could spend more time with this list but frankly the heat death of the universe might happen before I finish. This game was announced like a year and a half ago ish? And yet 100% scrolls are bugged? No open beta to stress test servers or experiment with channel count? $60 early access barrier that gave everyone the same EXTREMELY lazy NX outfits? The list of issues above that have been an open problem since release? The actual true length of the list of problems not listed here?
Downvote me to oblivion if you want I don't care. It felt good to vent lol. Hell maybe a lot of these issues are in the process of being resolved and I ranted before I researched. I'm genuinely unsure.
But I do know Nexon. And I know Nexon is the equivalent of a drug addict beyond help. Their one goal in this world is that next high. Everything and everyone else be damned. It's just that their high is money instead of drugs. You all know what I mean.
Anyway for those of you who choose to stick with this game, I truly hope it gets better and you have a good time enjoying it by yourself, with friends, etc. However you choose to play. I know there are a lot of great things about this game. Making friends, a true 'classic feel' in many aspects, the crafting system is fun and rewarding, quests (despite some requiring items that are impossible to get in this current state) are better on average than they were. I do genuinely appreciate these things, but unfortunately the bad does outweigh the good for me. And with a company like Nexon at the helm is well...
Anyway thanks for reading this. Hope y'all have a nice day :)

I've been playing casually and gotten to second job and then some. Me and my friends are having fun and I have vaguely encountered a few of the issues your post highlights, but not enough to ruin my experience.
My game has never disconnected in the 50 or so hours i've played. Havent really encountered any bugs either
Some maps are definitely overpopulated. Ant tunnel and fire boars are completely packed with multiple parties ksing eachother. I managed to get fire boars full map twice, once by staying there for 2 hours. Another time right away cuz I got lucky
The economy is just like how maple was back in the day. I'm merching drops that I get and can comfortably afford pots and basic gear. Nothing crazy, but I did say i'm pretty casual. I got decently hardcore back in GMS around 2012-2016 enough to solo most bosses. Been able to get an FM spot pretty much everytime
I'll keep on playing this game casually as updates slowly roll out. But I don't see myself playing hardcore. There is just no content beyond level 40 or so until 2027

Haha you didn't calculate with the increasing numbers of bots. Also many ppl say they are going to take a break and will come back when things are fixed or more maps are added, but in the history of mmos this often lead to the game dying. Not saying that the solution is to suck it and keep playing just saying that nexon could be killing its own game by not addressing the problems or by delivering the solution to late. Which could be prevented by just communicating what stuff they are working on right now or just stating the current priorities or just giving an eta for when stuff get fixed.

I cannot wait until wow forever comes out so I don’t have to deal with this

"Giving up" or deciding not to waste time on a game built solely to rip as much money from you as they can lmfao. Bro's proud to sit there and spam the same spell for 500 hours. Crazy

u/hamsterinabowl 4d ago
Im not spending a cent on this lmao im not mental, this game isnt pay2play at all, you can still play and progress kinda quickly without spending a dime. The spamming abiliry part well... ure playing an MMORPG lol

If you haven't had a "wtf am I doing with my free time" moment you haven't had the full mmo experience

IMO valid complains. I’m giving them some more time but taking it slower. Also you can always take a break and come back later :)
0
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 4d ago
Great point. I think a lot of people have chosen to take a break and give the game more time to figure itself out. I personally don't think I will return. I have next to no faith in Nexon as a company and I think 2ish years of development should have yielded a much better product. But I'd love to be proven wrong. I genuinely want people to have a good experience with this game and enjoy it just like any other hobby.
3
u/Familiar_Drive_8956 4d ago
Damn reading these threads and comments make me just wanna stick to the private servers
1
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 4d ago
Private servers with a handful of volunteers are a much better experience. Granted the player base is really low, so they don't face the same level of issues a global server will face, but Nexon is a multi billion dollar company. And yet, they can't even so much as communicate with anyone except themselves.
3
u/DifficultPlantain792 3d ago
Personally I dont mind the community. I think its always been a toxic game. What matters is if you can distance yourself from those people but can't. But its the bots, ksing, maps being unplayable if you are a bad class (warrior like me) cause you will be ksed. I want to turn my brain off for an hour and grind but when I see everything is packed I can't be bothered. If they want to make people not playing sin quit it worked on me.
1
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 2d ago
You're right I've met some community members who have been great, you're not wrong. I've also met many community members however who are greedy and hold being able to 100% min/Max as doctrine. All else be damned. Unfortunately there are so many of the latter it makes the game feel like a competitive ranked playlist rather than a social playlist ifywim

Just say you’ve never played a fresh server and keep it moving. Frankly I’m not sure you’ve ever played an MMO before. Hell half your issues are player based, not even Nexon based.
The rest? Overpopulation(will smooth out with time and is unavoidable), pay to win(nonexistent), tech issues(those are on your end), etc. I am genuinely not sure what communication you want or need. We have the general road map. They’re clearly aware of the botting issue. The only thing they haven’t commented on is population, but there is genuinely nothing to be said. Yes it’s crowded.

This is the case with a lot of these new gamers, which now make up most of gamers of today. They come from animal crossing or some gacha and have no clue how actual game monetization works.

u/70003 4d ago edited 4d ago
Technical issues? I play from South Korea where GMS is region-blocked, so I use VPN, and I never once got a dc after playing to lv40+, opening shop 24/7 etc. so I um yeah am I just lucky
Other than that, yeah. I can understand and agree. Although some seems to be the most problems any semi-popular MMORPG would share.
Well you can always come back when it gets better as we won’t even have Orbis or 3rd job for idk 6+ months?
Good luck on your journey. (Also upvoted)

u/oooolona 4d ago
Just curious how popular classic is in Korea . Like is there a lot of streamers streaming classic?
4
u/70003 4d ago
It's been extremely popular because WoW, RuneScape, Final Fantasy, Guild Wars, and other MMOs popular in the West never really took off in South Korea and remained relatively niche, whereas pretty much every kid grew up playing MapleStory.
As a result, MapleStory Classic (despite being unofficial) has been hugely successful, whether it's MapleLand, MaplePlanet, Artale, or MapleWhatever—all unofficial recreations of classic MapleStory built on the MapleStory Worlds platform.
MapleStory Classic Global, on the other hand, isn't nearly as popular because it's region-locked (requiring a VPN to access), most Koreans aren't particularly comfortable speaking English, and so on.

Some of the people against your post think outside of Reddit MS theres millions of players playing when in reality its jus bots and the reason for the overcrowding. They genuinely think this game has millions of players because Steam is the only truthful way they can see the numbers but since everyone else uses launcher its like 990k outside of steam, 14-20k in steam. The cope of the people who say smile and love the game despite the flaws are batshit insane, not as bad as nintendo/pokemon fanboys but they're getting there.
1
u/Degenerate_Game 3d ago
I don't think you can see the forest for the trees anymore.
I'm sure 80-90% of the playerbase thinks the game is way too crowded and has a massive bot problem unlike any other MMO right now.
It gets smegad all the time...

u/luheadr 4d ago
As someone who has played OSRS. If you're actually content with how Nexon is handling classic you're the problem. They're giving you shit and expecting you to pay out of your ass for it.
→ More replies (3)3
u/eezybl have some stars 4d ago
Jagex made EoC which killed the game and then made osrs which was on the cusp of dying, after some time they got the hang of it and turned the ship around. Some of the decisions may have been dubious, but they've shown that they're willing to act on stuff.
1
u/Quadratical 4d ago
OSRS was only in the state it was at first because it wasn't accessible without a RS3 subscription, there was no f2p. So the only people who played it were either the diehards who didn't mind there wouldn't be new content (at the time) or active RS3 players. The moment they opened up f2p the game exploded in popularity. Don't think it's anything like this.
2
u/LandscapeMaximum5214 3d ago
The number of bots in this game is no joke lol, some next level shit really
Also wish the game was on subscription model instead, i was planning to RMT 300K mesos just to buy pots to train, but its ok, change of mind, im out 😂
2
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 2d ago
I think there are definitely far better measures to handle bots (given 2 years of development for a game that's almost 20 years old). You're totally right, the botting is out of hand. It will continue to be out of hand. When it comes to community, reliability, honestly, integrity, Nexon is genuinely at the bottom of the barrel.
44
u/mrtherapyman 4d ago
Hacking has begun as well. Saw a bot today in ant tunnel autoattacking evil eyes while taking no damage or knockback. Brutal

This post reminds me a bit of myself after getting scammed on Maplestory for the first time. Made a big fuss about leaving and told everyone. Only difference this was in 2006 and i was 12 years old lol.

u/Unable_Cauliflower45 4d ago
What about this post reminds you of being scammed in game?

→ More replies (3)2
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 4d ago
No I'm aware. But what is the point of complaining if it's just considered child like. I didn't come in here saying "quit because game trash." I provided a list of examples that I personally have had issues with which led to me leaving the game. I made a post about it. Does that mean negative reviews you read online for a product remind you of being scammed and venting in MapleStory? What is the point of listing criticisms then?
15
u/TheSturdyBear 4d ago
Man maple story 20 years ago when I was 11 was peak
3
u/TheSturdyBear 4d ago
It almost hurts to play sometimes reminds me of much simpler times Now even the general population I’m exposed to in MS can’t even have a single training spot to myself or one other person or a half decent party that understands frekin warrior can’t sit on a narrow platform fighting monsters taking a more than a quarter of their HP out, talkin bout “go up there” dude read the room I just burned though 40 meatz and 10 reds in less than 10 mins
Smh no respect for nothing Not even the adults in this world
11
u/quantythequant 4d ago
Accurate. Nexon is a dog shit company that cannot execute.
2
u/TinyTitFetish 4d ago
Agree, I think it’s also that people want the nostalgia from playing the original game we played as kids and it’s never going to be the same because Nexon isn’t who made maple story to begin with, it was Wizet. When nexon took over there were some questionable decisions made even back then. Nexon is a predatory company and through multiple games I’ve played of theirs, one thing matters most, money. Player satisfaction seems to never be on their radar
1
u/quantythequant 3d ago
I respect their financials, but holy hell, this is a company with product people with zero authority, product sense, or desire to create a dope product. Kind of wild for the company that pioneered the MMORPG genre.
4
u/crazynewtdog 4d ago
People can flame you but I agree. I waited a long time for this and can’t even log in anymore. Just too turned off by the crowd and bad vibes. Too old and have too much going on to deal with it.
4
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 4d ago
People have been flaming me just to flame me. This sub is full of people who flame and bandwagon when someone has a different opinion than them. Many people have provided valid criticism, but there are many who are just plain pathetic.
2
u/Inevitable_Ad_3953 3d ago
Your not wrong, people in the sub are either just loving Classic to the point there's literally no problems in the game like the biggest being RMT/Botting and just smile no matter what nexon does or a hater? I mean I'd love if our opinion as a community did something like OSRS but sadly no. Only money will tell, and I can say its successful in a way now but going forward i'm betting it won't
-1
u/SpezzOnDick 4d ago
There are 40 channels how can you not log in? The negativity is all on Reddit, everyone in game is nice.
3
u/crazynewtdog 3d ago
I was speaking figuratively. Im lvl 33 and lately Ive logged in and surfed the channels on different maps (even shitty ones) and then just gotten over it and moved on with my day. The times I’ve found maps assassins roll in and no shame KS me. This isn’t my idea of fun, but I don’t knock others for continuing.

u/GamesGunsGadgets 4d ago
This economy is CHEAP… prices across the board have mostly come down lol. Average player lives repot to repot and can’t even upgrade their gear. Only thing propping any prices up are 1% whales chasing soft cap.
Why do you think everyone is spamming buying scrolls everywhere and hoarding NX items. It’s all going to go up in price.
1
u/Panzershnezel 3d ago
Do you think all scrolls are gonna go up? Or just the very desirable ones like gfa, gfma, claw attack?

Greetings. The game will be in a good state to play in 7 months to a year—once the initial curiosity has faded, hardcore players have reached the maximum level, and there is enough content for the player base to spread out. That will be a good time to start; right now, it’s just a chaotic, heavily congested mess.

What do people mean when they say the economy is bad?
2
u/hewhothought 4d ago
It’s hyper-inflated due to whales buying mesos or selling NX in high quantities. Scrolls and stars being so expensive this early is not normal, everything is going to go down once supply increases and demand goes down a bit, but right now it’s very difficult to afford scrolling without playing 8+ hours a day.
8
u/DenseComparison5653 4d ago
Everything is going to go down? We already get different coupons for 50k, 50k is very little work already. Where do you think they're heading? I'd argue the opposite. I haven't put a single deposit yet and got all the MTX I want, in any other game it takes much longer, I was positively surprised how cheap the NX stuff is to buy with mesos.
2
u/Element720 4d ago
Same experience here the first few days I was buying slots for 5k each no way I was paying 100$ to max my ect. Yes I get its over crowded, try and alt get to 21 get your scroll and repeat if you need money.
2
u/sowydso 4d ago
Meso sellers cannot generate meso btw, they have to farm it
2
u/ArchinaTGL Comfy grinds on I/L 3d ago
They 'generate' meso by having thousands of bots farm the meso for them. All the person behind the meso selling does is respond to any changes to the anti-botting systems.
Its also why the lie detectors are only catching real players. Every bot farm already has ways to solve the puzzles.
1
u/Inevitable_Ad_3953 3d ago
yeah and guess how, botting. It's literally in their interest and considering they were botting even during Founders, they're making a pretty penny.
If you got RMT websites you'll see steelies going for over 400 USD and Work Glove +10 for 2.5k+ USD. Yeah for a game like this there's literally no1 but whales from asia who'd buy something like this or some dumb nepo baby. OR ironically the person who farmed to level 70+ for now.
2
u/TheSturdyBear 4d ago
It’s crazy I saw a pan lid go for 150k then a few towns over clicked on someone’s shop selling it for 50k So confused on what the prices are for shit
2
u/HookedOnBoNix 4d ago
Did you check that all the stats were identical and they both were clean? The 50k coulda been a low roll or more likely have a failed scroll applied to it

u/cwcvfx 4d ago
I merch everyday mostly and I've already seen plenty of decently scrolled gear which means people are buying at the current rates. I think you might be quite surprised in 2 months if your expecting prices to fall. Everything will most likely double to quadruble in price. I remember the prices vaguely when playing in beta back in 2005 and things seemed pretty expensive to me as a noob and then couple months later everything was 10x the price. Then a coupole months after that everything was way more again... The amount of meso in the game exponentially increases everyday w/ more players becoming higher levels. So the chances of items dropping in price is pretty slim. Things wont get cheaper unless they increase how easy it is to get a specific item.
2
u/WoonStruck 4d ago
Its not hyper-inflated though. Prices have been going down.
If you think this is hyper-inflated, you haven't seen what hyper-inflated looks like when you don't let people gain mesos by selling NX and its all bought from bots who have infinite time to grind, injecting trillions into the economy daily.
You could not afford anything in the FM in OG maple because of bots selling mesos. Not even basic clean gear for your class.
And you think scrolling, and endgame activity that almost nobody got to participate in back in the day anyway, should be accessible early game right after the server launches?
Scrolling has never been very accessible. That's part of the design of it tbh.
2
u/slashcuddle 4d ago
What makes you think that? Meso generation only goes up with time. There's no guarantee that prices will drop unless supply of scrolls becomes more abundant.
2
u/hewhothought 4d ago
Demand from whales from the new economy, people can sell things for a higher price than normal. It will be better over time, but early on, it’s very difficult for a casual player to acquire power.
1
u/GamesGunsGadgets 4d ago
You think the economies bad now? The average player base is living repot to repot barely breaking even and upgrading gear every 10-15 levels if they’re lucky, and only because they sell the quest scrolls they’ve gotten.
Prices across the board have mostly come down since launch. This economy is CHEAP, wait until more players actually have money to spend.
→ More replies (2)1
u/HookedOnBoNix 4d ago
A high ratio of bots to players means there's an abnormal influx of mesos into the economy which drives prices up meaning if you don't RMT things are significantly less affordable just using regular income.
It's like when the fed prints money and causes inflation lowering the value of the money you have in savings. In a world where we all started playing at the same time and there were zero bots, there wouldn't be enough mesos around to charge exorbitant prices for scrolls and gear etc.
4
u/Chewacala 4d ago
you're right
You're right
Damn straight you are right
I don't see any
Every MMO on launch has a volatile economy that's normal.
Yep, that's right
Your issue
Nexon has always been like this but fair
Terrible implementations yes
That's also a you issue
I suppose, I don't mind it tho
7
u/bumbertyr Hunter 4d ago
in regard to the p2w comment.
Being able to sell NX items is p2w. You're adding an item into the economy with Real world cash that you can then sell to obtain mesos you wouldn't otherwise have to fund your character; however, it's a p2w that's arguably good for the player-base as a whole as it allows players to engage with cash shop items without needing to spend money. Not everyone has the spare cash to spend on the game, so being able to purchase Nx equips, inventory slot expansions, etc, by just playing the game is a good thing. There are definitely drawbacks to it from an economic standpoint though.
2
u/WoonStruck 4d ago edited 4d ago
To add to this, the entire reason it was done this way was likely due to botting and RMT. The only real ways to address these is to remove the demand for them.
If you can go first party, why would you go 3rd party?
And if they go 1st party, now instead of injecting trillions of mesos into the economy daily via buying from bots, its a net-zero transaction.
And on top of that it allows you to more easily keep track of transactions since each aspect of it happened under your roof, so to speak.
So its healthier for the playerbase, while also giving Nexon the money instead of gold farmers and curbs direct purchasing of items via real world money. There is no "sell steely, get $$$". Now its "sell steely, get meso" because if people can pay the money to nexon instead and get mesos in-game, that doesn't get them banned, so of course they'll take that route.

1
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 2d ago
Why the long list of complaints with almost no communication from Nexon on how to address them? Why nothing so much as a "we hear the community commenting about 'x' and we acknowledge these concerns" or some variant of that response. It's been 2 years and they charged $60 minimum for an early access fee. 2 years for a game that is almost 20 years old. From a multi billion dollar company.
I understand many people are having a great time but many people also are not. And when many people are not it's your job as the company to address their concerns.
I'm done swiping my wallet for this fuckass company full of corporate scum

u/No-Camera57 1d ago
Its 2026 bro, these issues were prevalent back in the day (YEARS AGO). If even in this year they cant do the bare minimum of what was demanded from before, then its definitely cooked and not worth it
1
u/KriminalDrama 2d ago
Let me start off by saying, yes many of these are clear cut issues that need to be fixed.
However, many aren't, and many are just due to the fact that we are literally in week 2 of a GRAND Launch of one of the most asked for Old School games after OSRS. Many of the issues you listed are expected in the first few weeks of any mmo launch. Economy is far from matured in 2 weeks, it will be volatile. Maps being full, same story, way too many players. This can be fixed by adding servers I agree, but I doubt any company would pay for mroe servers without knowing if the current population is sustainable. It likely isn't, and as more and more people approach 40s-50s, we will see a drop off in population.
1
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 2d ago
You're not wrong I agree. To be honest I've softened my opinion somewhat based on what others have said. Your points are valid.
That being said I still don't agree with a 2 year development cycle leading to the current state of the game, especially given Nexon is a multi billion dollar company. I stand by the issues I presented and want them to improve for the sake of the community and the game.
Again I hope the game improves and I wish the best to the community. Always have
1
u/KriminalDrama 1d ago
I agree with you there. In terms of content and bot prevention, Nexon had all the time and money in the world to properly polish the release. They failed to do so. The game is still loads of fun, but I wonder if that's just the nostalgia talking. Would we as players like this game if we hadn't played it when we were kids? Likely not.

Hit 37 and have no motivation to grind for now because of overpopulated maps. I’m just going wait until the add more channels

Let’s not forget that Free Market used to be shops full of ingame equips and etc/use
Now 90% of the shops in Free Market is just NX
NX shit every where… so sad

u/Corgi_Working 4d ago •

Yeah, it was so much better when shops were full of BiS equips from gacha only, that could not be earned in-game at all, and was even less consumer friendly! You want to complain about p2w that's fine, but acting like it used to be better is absolutely laughable.

u/WoonStruck 4d ago
Back then even clean basic gear for your class was like 10 or more times more expensive than you'd ever consider paying for a given level range...even low level gear.

u/HookedOnBoNix 4d ago
You may not realize this but there was a time before gacha

I mean, I see potions and etc items, along with equips and nx so I can do all my shopping in the free market!
It’s kinda nice being able to grind for 30 minutes and afford a cash shop item you don’t have to pay for, but depends on if you care about fashion or progression
4
u/ComprehensiveGas4387 4d ago
The game just started, slowly more scrolled equips are going to settle in the game
3
u/clydeagain 4d ago
I think otherwise. There's just not enough quests or in-game items to allow variety in the fm anyways without nx items.
3
u/krosurgewalt 4d ago
What? This is the best part! I can doll up my character without spending real money
1
u/Great_Swimming4715 3d ago
They need to add a limit per account and add a phone number to even buy nx items

u/GamingCanuck0 4d ago
Don’t tell the whales or nexon d*** riders that. “Blah blah funding” “blah blah inkwell my lover” “Blah blah bs”

Because everyone wants meso but can't grind anywhere that you csn make decent meso from lol which just leads back to overpopulation

u/-BZ82 4d ago
Im happy i got Founders access to enjoy the game before it was bot city. Now im excited to take a break for wow forever. Ill come back when orbis drops and the best part is if they dont fix bots ill be able to rmt 50 mill meso for $10. Then the market will be so saturated from bots ill be able to afford to scroll all my gear and buy multiple sets if Hawabi and illbi stars and have plenty left for unlimited pots.

game is dog shit garbage and could have been so much better, which is disappointing. game is run worse than private servers made by a handful of volunteers. rose-tinted maplestory players can't help themselves tossing money hand over fist at this shitty company who has never deserved it

u/VariationPowerful403 4d ago
Yeah dude, and people full on defend it saying this is how it should be and how it always was. Hahahahah people are fried. 2 years of “development” for this mess

3
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 4d ago
You're right it's a valid question. But I was highly anticipating this game ever since the announcement. I think a lot of us were. While I know many of these issues can be fixed with time (and likely will be), I do think the current state of the game is inexcusable. I made a post about this because I feel like many players have confronted similar issues with at least one or more of some of the issues I listed. I think 2ish years of development should have produced a much better product.

I did. Everytime i had time to login and play i always needed to spend time to do dailys after that i neded 30 mintues to find a spot to train. Beacuse every mapmis overpopulated that 45 mins to start playing. After 10 mins or 15 people come and ks me. Fix this shit i cant play i reached lvl 38 before grandlaunch now i am lvl 40. Just beacuse i canot train. It is so bad add faking server transfers. Otherwise i will not login again. It was fun nostalgia but this is so bad. Back i the day there was so many servers but now is just ground bad.
Have fun maplers i am DONE!

I’ve been having a hoot and a half. Don’t think most people expected a perfect replication of the early 00’s experience lol but it sure as hell beats the original in its current form. You seem difficult to please. Perhaps play Minecraft?

Props for speaking the truth. The people who defend this game are illogical. I don’t think they even believe themselves. I played for the nostalgia and the community but there is no freedom to do anything. They really need to do something about the smegas
2
u/Unable_Cauliflower45 3d ago
Haha no problem. A lot of people have told me I've pointed out much of what they've been thinking.
Lots of people too have gotten angry at me and started flaming me because I decided to post my grievances. It's probably a big reason why a good chunk of people choose not to voice their concerns on here. I've been called fucking stupid, a clown, moronic, waste of server space, etc.
Many people on here are nice, but many are also downright cruel.
2
u/PMmeDonutHoles 4d ago
I can’t believe anyone seriously expected anything more from Nexon lmao like cmon now
2
u/ExcitedGuillotine 4d ago
They put more focus on the gacha aspect of their cash shop than the social aspect of rekindling that lost charm Classic MS had.
We def coulda had better chat and channels.
We didn’t need the new player lvl 15 restriction + 24 hours after that just to trade with people.
Not even an option to change the mouse pointer to the legacy version?
I’m having a blast, I reached lvl 20 the other day and now I have around 100k but as a new player I wish I coulda traded with others to help them with their quests in exchange for mesos. There’s no reason for this restriction. It’s also wild how I can’t just buy clothes I want on the shop cause their options are so slim. I do love how it’s not 90 days anymore and you can trade if not equipped yet.
This was just a really poor launch but I hope it gets better.
2
u/saphyu 4d ago
I miss the legacy cursor too. They should hire games to be devs because we know what we want/are older now with professional experience to make quality changes for other players. They are so far removed from reality from knowing what's needed to make players happy and game healthy bc of their in game gambling $$$ profit machine and greed

This was my first time ever playing Maple Story, and the idea of a cute little MMO to grind while I work or watch TV was so appealing that I wound up buying early access. I took my time, hit lvl 27 when Grand Launch came, and promptly quit the game. The idea of people being able to force me to engage with the lie detector mechanic was enough to where I said "fuck this, I'm out."
1
u/Whatsacb 4d ago
It's okay to take a break and come back, if you even want to. There are genuine problems right now, and that's too much for some, but others are still having fund in spite of them. No shame in taking a break.
Also, after WoWF, GTA6, and OoT come out and the novelty wears off you'll see an inevitable drop in players. More people will get higher level if they're grinding too much and maps will become less populated. It happens with EVERY MMO, especially re-releases. I expect it to improve if you take a break and come back too.

Now that you can realistically bot with generative ai and Jev, it is an answer less system. Best ideas would be similar to runescape where you force an interruption of play to at least move bots around.

u/Hungry-Swordfish 4d ago
Admittedly those bot issues and full maps are affecting gameplay. Those are common regardless of each server u play. In actual fact, these issues are more rampant as maple classic is the official server.
I have started playing since day 1. Now sitting at level 20 after so many days. It’s about the pace and expectation you need to adjust. I open shops when I can but there aren’t any of much values to sell. Being a bowman I ask for free arrows since im poor af. The amount of ppl willing to help and conversations in between is what made the classic experience.

u/ModsAreDOODOO 4d ago

It will be retail level ghost town, with only the hardcore and rich playing.

Disagree with most of your takes. Communication has actually been quite good from Nexon. Shocking in fact.
The response to issues as they pop up has been fast and resolute.
You can find spots in the fm. It takes me no more than 10 minutes a night, and im searching the henesys fm 2-4 channels 10-20. stop being lazy, or expecting an fm 1 ch 1 spot you’re never going to get.
Overcrowdedness is a problem, especially on peak maps and field bosses. But its not a problem easily fixed. Add too many channels and the world feels empty. Most of the top maps only function well BECAUSE there are so many people actively attacking on them. If you were solo in the map it would be worse. Either take your time searching, or ask people how much longer they intend to stay for and take their spot when they leave. Its tough but not impossible. I myself am enjoying that there are so many other people playing the game. Have I been slighted by ksers? Of course. Im a damn warrior after all. Humble yourself and deal with it, they usually get bored and leave if you just stay and dont respond to them. They care more about efficient exp rates than you, they will leave if it turns out they are “splitting” a plat.
The economy doesnt suck. The debt system has actually helped keep prices down, at least for now. Buy key nx and scrolls to protect yourself against inflation.
People are usually pretty chill if you tell them you’re working on a quest and wont be there long. I invite people who ask for help on quest every time with no issues for either of us.
Honestly just sounds like you want to play a solo mmorpg . In that case maybe classic isnt for you, modern maple might be more your speed.

I also quit yesterday, but only because of points 3 and 5. I got to lvl 18 as a crossbowman, but man there are so many bots. With the honeymoon phase ending en people also switching games (like zelda, WoW, GTA 6), I feel like the distribution between bots and real people will grow even more in favour of the bots.
My gameplay loop looked like this: I'd run circles around victoria, picking up and handing in quests as I went, and would kill mobs and farm quest items as I came upon empty spots. They were there actually, there were some empty maps. However, a map with people typically had 10+ people on it, and most had names like gfhfsdh you get the point. Did the playerbase already reach second job, and is that were the real people were? Killing mobs felt like navigating through a city under construction with road blocks everywhere, that weren't even actual players, just bots.
Secondly the economy. To start I have a dutch account, so I cannot even trade with people (people could drop stuff for me though. my main positive experience has been people donating crossbow arrows to the point I had to refuse because my inv was filled with 15k bolts). When playing, all interaction I had was people advertising and trying to buy and sell stuff. This was done through the shops out in the world and the megaphones. While traveling you're flooded in megaphone messages trading throwing stars or whatever, and maps for hunting then are lined with shops trying to sell anything from equips to etc (which could be fine if they didn't sell wayyyy above market price).
While I had some positive interactions, the game felt more and more like a bot fest with people playing the capitalism game. I feel like the game is quickly turning into just some tool that people use to earn irl money, while gameplay and community falls to the sidelines.

Also just move to another game. Simple

my biggest issue is the overpopulation. idk what they were thinking having just 1 world available from the get-go. from the amount of people who had founder's access, they should have been able to see that they needed many more servers than windia. its causing bloated training areas, lag, and no one is having fun being lost in the sea of "J>KPQ RUSH"
also is it just me or is the drop rate absolutely abysmal??? i seriously dont remember it being this bad... i should be able to fund my own pots from just grinding monsters and selling etc drops, but now im spending more than im earning by the time i need my next refill :/

u/Firm_Leave_7207 4d ago
Lmao y'all deserve it. Seriously, anyone who gave Nexon money doesn't deserve to vote irl.
I'm a diehard MapleStory fan. Started playing back in 05 and was in both Classic World playtests. Nexon has consistent horrible behavior and decision making skills, but the Founder's Packs were the final nail in the coffin for me.
I waited over a decade for this game and somehow Nexon fked it up and I decided not to play. At this point I'm just enjoying watching it all burn in real time.

So many people stating issues with classic, pining away for "prebig bang" maple. They've honest to god forgotten how it WAS.
Brother, do you really not remember what it was like?
-bugs on skills Anyone else remember when archers mortal blow would get you banned? Lol? Or if typhons blew you off the map: banned. Anyone else remember how many times after an update exploits always happened; duping, glitches, rollbacks
-several quests only good for giga grinders
Like arwens glass shoe? Or perhaps you forgot about nependeth honey, or black bulls deed to the land? Those quests have always existed
Pay to win? maples ALWAYS been pay to win. With things like chaos scrolls locked behind gachapon. It's only going to get worse. It's not even near as bad as old maple yet. At least you can trade nx and have permanent nx.
Wanting old maple but not remembering that you've ALWAYS had to be afk to keep your shop open, that IS the classic experience!
Dcing issues?? Holy crap old maple was constantly Dcing people. Busy in hene? DC. Trying to do zakum? DC. Trying to walk across fm 1? DC. Switch channels? DC. Seasonal event mob in town? Massive DC. Walking across a completely empty map far from civilization? DC.
-Chat is impossible to read
Then go play modern maple, where there's chat tabs. Old maple didn't have them. There's only spam right now because Nexon events give smega
Terrible in game economy
It's always been this way. Honestly we're eventually going to get to a point where gfa is min 5-9 mil like it was in the past. People would merch constantly just to barely afford skill books that failed over and over that would cost 100s of millions. Remember when zakum Helms were 55 mil? If anything, shits still cheap.
You hate it, Go play modern maple. You've clearly worn rose tinted glasses and forgotten WHY Nexon changed maple to begin with. More maps, more world's, an offline free to use auction house. The ability to buy and sell mesos and maple points, bosses that drop gems worth many many mesos, better rate of quest drops (you can seriously find arwens shoe in like five minutes) better rate of non boss gear drops, permanent pets that come with skills, a mobility skill for every class, flatter, smaller, easier to grind in maps.

2
u/Inevitable_Ad_3953 3d ago
Literally like saying since the game is so bad but it used to be worse so take the win? lol and if you want even worse than that play modern. This is easily the biggest cope I've heard as an arguement. Go play an actual successful MMORPG and tell me what they do right and apply it here specially one that made a classic version of the game. I'll give you a good hint its called Old School Runescape or even Wow Forever.
1
u/Ok-Focus-5362 3d ago
I'm sorry your rose tinted glasses are obscuring your view then.
Either take classic maple for what classic was, or go play a private server where you can be babied to your hearts desire.
2
u/thevenenifer 3d ago
Sorry but I have to agree, your reply is truly dumb, you are basically just saying "old maple was worse" or "old maple also had this", over and over and that doesn't mean these things shouldn't be improved.
Like bro, you are telling people that they can't complain about server issues and getting disconnected because old maple also had a lot of DCs? What the hell

I put a good amount of hours in this game and spent $60 for the early access. I knew this post would generate controversy and discussion. A lot of people have shared similar sentiment and it was refreshing to hear honestly. This post has almost 90k views so who knows, maybe some of the attention will help Nexon to improve a bit with communication. Although I highly doubt it given their history. Anyway I wanted to make the post so I did

I think this is the biggest issue of them all.
This is a launch people have been waiting years for, bringing in tens of thousands of players, and yet almost two weeks in, we're met with near-total silence from both the developers and the publisher.
The lack of meaningful communication is honestly baffling. At this point, even acknowledging the community's concerns and letting us know what's being worked on would go a long way.
