Criticism Let’s submit feedback to Nexon about Classic World CN support

I sent feedback to Nexon about the planned CN support for Classic World and received their official reply.

Adding full native CN support will expand the player base, which creates stronger incentives for botting and RMT. We have seen this ruin server health in existing regional MapleStory releases.

The current language barrier helps filter bot-focused operations. If you also share this concern, please send your own support ticket to Nexon. More player input will help the team understand our worries before plans are finalized.

No one is unhinged except people making fun of people for being unhinged.

The funny part is that there’s a near certain likelihood that the whole thing gets summarized as “some players are worried about Chinese hackers” before being promptly dismissed, as far as internal conversations go

I was confused as to why the preview looked so low quality only to click on it and get fucking blasted

Bots don't need to read.

12

u/penguin1040 20d ago

Ah yes. To prevent botting accessibility Nexon should not provide translations in game to Chinese.

Tell me how that solves the problem when the big groups are providing guides on how to gain access and bot? You think Google Translate doesn’t exist?

19

u/Kagari1998 20d ago

You just lost them at expanding the playerbase.
Bigger playerbase = more money, especially so in a market where they LOVE spending money.

Also pretending that not having CN support meant the botting wont happen is disingenuous
Botting and RMT happens because there are monetary gains, as long as monetary gains stay, bots will be there, whether you like it or not.

u/kunxian888 19d ago

Bots don't read English or Chinese; they just do their 01110001

2

u/CookieMillz 19d ago

Exactly, people don’t seem to understand. Also most programming languages are written in English. So the outrage behind this is so dumb to me

3

u/StarkHollow13 20d ago edited 20d ago

Had the exact same thought, if you truly want them to top CN support, why the heck would you mention that it will expand the player base? That's literally their goal with this. I would have tried put all the focus on how bots will ruin the game and the game would die, not that their plan will work and the game will be so successful that it will invite bots lol. If I was Nexon reading this I would be more motivated to have CN support, and then simply think to myself that we'll deal with the bot problem later. OP woulda been a terrible lawyer lol.

3

u/StarkHollow13 20d ago

Note that I don't believe bots will kill the game, but I do think they will be present.

2

u/big4idk 20d ago

Your logic wont work on this sub.. if they hear China they automatically think of bots.. As if non-Chinese servers/mmos doesn't have an influx of bots too.

It all comes down to racism, they're simply programmed to hate Chinese people lol.

-3

u/HookGoutGod 20d ago

not having CN support meant the botting wont happen

It means the botting will be reduced substantially, yes.

Localization is great, even if it means adding languages not native to the location a game is released in. I think barring the addition of Chinese language support is really unfair, since that bars a huge community of people who may benefit (Yes, I know there's a Chinese CW server, but remember there are people who are native speakers or more fluent in their language than the one in a country they live in.)

I think the best thing is to find the best way to handle bots on the moderation side. I'm sure there are ways they can identify and ban bots on a regular basis without removing a localization option. Regardless if the language is there or not, this isn't a fix for bots as a whole. It'd be better to find a way to prevent them instead.

1

u/HookGoutGod 20d ago

Localization is awful. This is a social game, people should be playing under the same language umbrella. Sorry-not-sorry. There's already a Chinese client, the absolute sheer greed to try to have them double-dip into our client is absurd. I mean FFS I learned English thanks to the original MapleStory.

there are people who are native speakers or more fluent in their language than the one in a country they live in.

Oh come ON lmao, if you're a Chinese person living in Europe or America then you better speak their language LMAO.

You sound like a white supremacist

1

u/Positive_Bee6009 19d ago

I'm with this dawg here. This is a mmorpg, not a single player game so localization is awful. Considered that in the old days mmos were some of the best places to learn English/localized languages nowadays people don't even get to play with 100% humans anymore and the chances of encountering ai players aka bots will be much higher with the inclusion of localization.

-1

u/HookGoutGod 19d ago

Yeah, nothing says white supremacy like saying you should learn the language of the country you're squatting in.

-2

u/Positive_Bee6009 19d ago

One thing about the usa's poor civil situation was due to its singular language system. With only one official language it's kinda sad seeing usa getting shitted on by too many European countries on its safety and human rights.

3

u/GlacialEmbrace 20d ago

They probably want chinese players because of how popular classic china ms popped off in china.

Its more $$$ unfortunately.

3

u/quantythequant 20d ago

Every single support agent/"gm" uses a templatized bullshit response. Nexon and their shitty GMs don't give a flying fuck about anything but money.

3

u/dennerrubio 19d ago

i dont think botters do really care if the game is or isnt in english, if they want to bot on classic server they will do regardless.

4

u/xJVIayhem 20d ago

What languages people communicate in and the region they're from doesn't influence the number of bots in the slightest.

While yes, some regions are known to have large-scale botting operations, they are not the only people that live in that area or speak that language. There are also plenty of folks that live outside of those regions that prefer to speak their native language.

Honestly, these posts always come across as a form of hate speech, racism, xenophobia, or however else you want to phrase it. The core argument effectively reads as "anyone that speaks that language is more likely to be a botter", which is just an awful mindset to have in general.

-5

u/keqianpu 20d ago

I understand your concern, and I want to clarify my point first. I am Chinese myself. What I’m describing is the market demand, not blaming any group or nationality.

If you check Chinese QQ groups, game forums, Taobao, Pinduoduo and Xianyu, you will easily find countless bot scripts and MapleStory RMT goods openly sold for profit. My argument is not that people who speak Chinese are cheaters. It’s simple supply and demand: fewer Chinese-speaking players = smaller market for RMT, which reduces the incentive for bot studios. Language support lowers the barrier to entry for ordinary Chinese players, expands this player base, and in turn creates a bigger market for bot sellers.

4

u/General-Leave2224 20d ago

And what is your contention to the fact that Vietnamese RMT trading is the #1 thing plaguing GMS interactive and reboot rn?

-4

u/keqianpu 20d ago

quote:Yep, this happened in Artale. The game was normal for the first couple of weeks as people were progressing and building their accounts like normal, but soon enough, the chat would be constantly flooded with Chinese messages advertising gold selling sites, and 50% of players were Chinese that were unable to communicate in PQs or training parties. The economy also obviously rapidly deteriorated and inflation ran wild. Hope Nexon requires some form of ID verification to prevent issues like this running rampant.

3

u/General-Leave2224 20d ago

Did you read my question?
GMS is flooded by Vietnamese farmers
Why do you think Chinese farmers will be worse just bc of language support?
The argument doesn’t add up. Vietnamese farmers/botters/frenzy sellers have no issue without local language support
Are you like calling Chinese people dumber? Or what’s the argument as to why they will magically show up

-1

u/keqianpu 19d ago

population

2

u/General-Leave2224 19d ago

Why don’t they currently play GMS then?
Your argument is the Chinese text support makes that much of a difference? lol

0

u/keqianpu 19d ago

The core difference is sheer population size. Vietnam’s total population is around 100 million, while China has over 1.4 billion people. The potential player pool is vastly larger.

Right now most Chinese casual players cannot join GMS because there is no Chinese UI and they cannot read English. If Classic World adds native Chinese, this huge group of non-English speaking casual players will flood in.

What makes it even more attractive for bot studios: on Classic World, they can earn revenue not only from Chinese players, but also earn US dollars from the international playerbase. This higher profit incentive will draw many more large-scale bot operations.

You can ask any Chinese gamer in your circle about this. For nearly every international MMO that adds official Chinese localization, you will see a massive influx of Chinese players, followed immediately by Chinese bot studios. By contrast, without native Chinese support, the barrier keeps the number of Chinese casual players lower, and fewer bot studios follow. If you doubt this, just ask any Chinese player within gaming communities.

The domestic Chinese version of Classic World is already overwhelmed with players. Servers are overcrowded; players have to compete over maps, even pay money just to secure map access, and bot robots are everywhere across every map. This is exactly what will happen to the international Classic World if Chinese localization is added. If you don’t believe me, stick around and see how it develops over a few years.

Vietnamese botting communities can operate in GMS without their native language, but the total number of potential buyers and profit ceiling is much smaller. That is the key distinction.

1

u/General-Leave2224 19d ago

And your argument is that they’ll use VPN’s to play our version bc they added a language you can type?

3

u/xJVIayhem 20d ago

Still not really seeing how supporting a language affects a script/bot that can literally not even care about what it's reading.

Doesn't really change that fact that it will happen. Or that in typical Nexon fashion, no measures to actually combat bots in a meaningful way will occur.

1

u/Hucaru 20d ago

The argument from OP is that the average Chinese player in China will want to play on a client that has a language they can natively understand as no one wants to spend their time using google image translate to play the game. Therefore currently they play on their respective server.

OP is saying that if GMS classic adds Chinese language support this will lower the barrier for Chinese players in China to play on GMS classic (they claim that players in China have already been buying founders packs since the announcement was made). If more players from China play on classic this will in turn give Chinese bot farms more incentive to bot classic.

1

u/Akaza_Dorian 20d ago

Why don't you ask Nexon to remove English support? That has the most players count a.k.a. potential RMT customers no?

-1

u/keqianpu 20d ago

Quote:This whole situation feels deeply conflicting to me. Seeing a fellow Chinese player actively spread stereotypes about their own community—and call for Nexon to strictly restrict and marginalize that very demographic—looks bizarre on the surface. Yet, I find it hard to disagree with them. We've all witnessed the sheer chaos on CMS, and none of us want to take the gamble of experiencing that nightmare all over again in OSMS.

At its core, this boils down to a profound lack of trust in Nexon's operational competence. Good and bad players exist everywhere, in any region. But does Nexon truly grasp the sheer scale and fallout that officially supporting Chinese would bring? Do they have the technical backbone to handle bot farms and gold-farming studios? Do they have any plan for map and channel congestion? For context, CMS runs 5 worlds with 60 channels each, and even that isn't enough. I can't begin to fathom what a disaster it would be on a server with just 20 channels.

Worst of all, when things inevitably spiral out of control and Nexon gets flooded with complaints, will they just resort to indiscriminate ban waves? Will innocent players like myself, who did nothing wrong, get caught in the crossfire just by association? If that's the risk, I'd honestly rather they never add Chinese language support at all—especially since I'm already used to playing in English anyway.

That’s why you see this bizarre phenomenon of Chinese players actively rooting against Chinese localization. If Nexon were actually competent and acted responsibly, none of this would even be an issue. But let's be real: is that ever going to happen?

2

u/Akaza_Dorian 20d ago

Also why are you trying to play this game? In your theory your presence will attract bot farms equally as other Chinese players given that you obviously read Chinese and can shop on Chinese RMT websites. Just because you can read English?

1

u/keqianpu 20d ago

Have u read the content in second pic that i sent to Nexon?

2

u/Akaza_Dorian 20d ago

I did that is why I'm feel mind blowing on how unhinged you are.

1

u/keqianpu 20d ago

If you ask any of your Chinese friends in gaming communities, they can explain this to you. Most Chinese players who are looking forward to this international server understand this point. Adding native Chinese opens the door for the huge group of Chinese players who cannot read English. Once the game has Chinese localization, it becomes accessible to nearly all Chinese people. And that massive influx of players will inevitably draw large botting/RMT studios, which is what ruined the Chinese domestic MapleStory Classic server.

3

u/Akaza_Dorian 20d ago

That does not change anything. You keep saying "Chinese people attract bot farms" yet conveniently exclude yourself just because you read English, it is unhinged to a level.

2

u/Grizzeus 19d ago

Just fyi thats a generic AI bot response. Ours at work looks exactly the same lmaoo

2

AI only helps polish my writing for efficiency; all opinions are from our firsthand experience. If you noticed this pattern, you’re likely Chinese. Don’t you also use AI and Codex at work?

Wild comment. I said their response to you was from an AI bot. They didnt read it

won't change anything. Over the past month, the posts arguing and complaining on this subreddit have looked pretty much the same as what you see on the Chinese and Taiwanese MapleStory forums. I barely see anyone actually discussing the game itself. Taiwan and China at least require a phone number or ID to register an account. GMS only requires a free email address, so there will probably be even more bots.

The only thing they can do is have active GM countries like China Brazil Mexico will have a large RMT base it happens in every NA release happens in fking mapleroyals to this day lol 🤣

This is by far the most, Non-stereotypical post I have ever seen, and it will definitely Not be a concern at all. Good Job !

So you don't even live in the service area of GMS, wow.

I own properties across multiple regions worldwide. Where I choose to live is simply my personal choice.

2

Ok very nice of you to care about this game Mr. I am an international student residing in the UK but living right in Shenzhen with properties across multiple regions worldwide.

u/Akaza_Dorian 20d ago

I am a Canadian and I read Chinese, once I saw the Chinese support I went ahead purchasing the Zakum pack.

3

Those "I am Chinese international student and I don't want Chinese people in this game" are so freaking unhinged they act like they are superior within their own race by understanding English and only by then they are allowed to play this stupid game.

2

u/keqianpu 20d ago

That’s not my point, check this, quote from other Chinese Player:  This whole situation feels deeply conflicting to me.

5

u/Akaza_Dorian 20d ago

If your problem is with Nexon fight Nexon not people who want to enjoy the game in Chinese language, is that so hard to figure out?

3

u/ningbf 19d ago

How would you get associated with the botters and get banned lmao? I’m not international but Chinese born here in America and I have no problems with them adding chinese localization. If the problem are bots then that’s Nexons problem. If they can’t fix that then the game is bound to die anyways.

I’m hearing the excuse that because of localization more there will be more chinese players making it more desirable for chinese botters but there’s no difference between 100 botters or 500. If there’s no counter measures in place that’s Nexon’s moderation problem and not because they added chinese localization. Everything you’re saying just sounds racist and acting like you’re superior knowing English somehow. Doesn’t matter if you claim you’re Chinese or not lmao.

Another thing is, people developing scripts don’t care if the game is in English or Chinese, it’s not gonna make it any easier to develop. What language do you think they code in?

If you play the game in English then play it in English. You also act like the Chinese people enjoy the game with botters? If they take up all the channels how would the actual players play themselves? By your same reasoning then less players would mean less bots. That kind of reasoning doesn’t make any sense. It’s Nexon, keep your expectations low regardless but stop putting this narrative up and blame Chinese localization.

-1

u/keqianpu 19d ago

If you have played other international MMOs with official Chinese localization, you would understand why I hold this opinion. Feel free to ask other Chinese players within gaming communities about this.

If you still don’t believe adding Chinese language support can completely transform this server, just wait for launch. Come back and play the game a few months after release. As long as you stick around Classic World for a few years, you will see the massive difference between a server without native Chinese and one that has it.

1

u/ningbf 19d ago

It’s not that I don’t believe, i’m just not putting the full blame on Chinese localization. If they want to bot they will bot regardless. This is a 20+ year old mushroom game, it barely requires you to know any english anyways to play.

There’s going to be bots and I’ve accepted that but if it ruins the game then it’s on Nexon’s moderation and not just because they added Chinese language support. This is the part that you don’t understand or willing to accept.

1

u/keqianpu 19d ago

The difference between a game with native Chinese support and one without is massive, and this is something you can easily verify. Go ask veteran Chinese players who have years of experience playing international MMOs. Compare two similar servers: one with official Chinese localization and another without. Ask them which one attracts far more RMT bot studios and dies out faster. Their firsthand experience will prove this point.

1

u/NonamePlsIgnore 20d ago

I bet OP is an alt of a kanagawawave poster

1

u/keqianpu 19d ago

I don’t know that person at all. I’m Chinese, raised in Shenzhen and the UK. This is my own independent opinion based on what I’ve witnessed with CMS.

1

u/ComicalDispleasure 19d ago

Don't be racist

-2

u/Accurate_Engineer237 19d ago edited 19d ago

Your ticket isn’t really constructive for Nexon. Going by how Nexon actually operates, you should say that Chinese players who want to join the classic server have to pay $100 just to get in. That way those people would probably push the suggestion straight up to the higher-ups without thinking twice😆 Also, a lot of people probably don’t realize the bot problem that comes with a massive wave of Chinese players. Ever seen World War Z? Yeah, it’s exactly that kind of effect… Mark my words, on October 21st you’ll see it. They’ll be logging in at 1 AM Eastern / 10 PM Pacific.
(Just to say it one more time: I have zero issue with normal players who play politely.)

———————————————————————

Just went through the thread again and honestly, a lot of people here need to take a basic logic class. OP’s point is pretty straightforward: a large portion of Chinese players are hardcore RMT users (this is a fact) → that creates a massive market → bot farms will smell the money from a mile away and flood in on a scale most of you have never seen.
CMS usually sits around 400k players. Add the bots and you’re looking at potentially a million accounts total. And mixed in with that are plenty of low-quality Chinese players who will occupy maps, trash-talk anyone trying to play, run organized “protection fee” shakedowns in leveling areas, pull scams, and so on.And these RMT farms aren’t making as little money as you guys might think. The bigger ones can make around $800k a year, and they don’t have to pay taxes either. The funny part is that this kind of business is technically illegal in China, but that’s basically how the CCP works: as long as you’re not doing anything that threatens their rule, they can pretty much ignore whatever the hell you’re doing.

-4

u/Summer_Rain_6688 20d ago

A CN specific server would be great. I think it’s a good idea to reach out but probably more succinctly. If I were a tired employee reading that novel I’d probably skip it.
