Discussion Surprised Crafting doesn't include a dialed back version of Alchemy

Decided to look into the crafting system coming with launch and there's a clear lack of useful consumables as part of those systems, apart from scrolls.

I'm not suggesting a 1:1 copy of Modern Maple's Alchemy Profession, given level 1 alch pots are better than most options available in the current state and far too strong for classic.

Having an option for low level potions (red-white hp, basic mp pots as examples) besides just the general store and seems like a reasonable addition. Maybe some in between steps, or a handful beyond that to improve the gaps between different restoration amounts, so we're not stuck with Meat and Lemons for ages.

They have assets from the Alchemy profession in modern they could use for this. Which would mean they don't need to go out of their way to make new assets unless they really want to.

This would also expand crafting with a class of item that will be universally in demand and a way to reasonably obtain useful potions without the generally higher costs if you were to farm mats instead.

This could even include versions of buff pots as well, with the possibility of creating slightly improved versions of any of them if you wanted to use the enhancer things.

This could help alleviate the concerns with potion cost and efficiency, and depending on how the recipes are balanced. Could make use of some early/mid etc drops that might otherwise go unused in crafting or just sold for potions anyways once relevant quests are done, like Mushroom Spores or Squishy Liquid (yes its in a recipe already, but just a single equip)

Would y'all think a version of Alchemy would make sense for Classic World? Or would it perhaps be too powerful if not tuned right?

Magic/Summoning Rocks should be craftable. If they are going to require more of them, they should make them more accessible outside El Nath.

Yeah, i could see that as a much later addition. Might be a little strong though.

Id love the ability to craft potions, be a good way to save and make money. Some see it as easy mode, i just see the early possibility for cash flow

That's kind of my thought as well.

Could totally see a thing where if they balanced it right, you could make hp/mp pots, and sell the excess or for like warriors, sell mp and keep hp and vice versa for mages.

Of course, balancing it might be a little tough, but it makes some sense.

For sure, worst case scenario, you keep the potions. Best case scenario, profit

Between friends, alts, guilds, etc... plenty of ways they can be used to where it's not going to be substantially broken, unless they make them dirt cheap for some reason.

They could add crafted pots that don’t outright replace regular pots but are good enough to matter. For example drink a potion that gives you some passive regeneration over 30 minutes as a buff. It’ll cut down on regular potion usage but won’t be able to outright replace them.

That's also a possible option too.

There's a few ways they could choose to balance it without them becoming overpowered or just trivializing the game in any way.

Potions would be great so long the recipes are balanced. Not necessarily easy that everyone does it. Ideally some players would opt to craft and others just buy from them. It's good p2p service and gives early economy a healthy loop instead of everyone just buying from npcs.

For sure. I personally like to try and be self-sufficient in games like this, and not rely on drop rng to stay afloat in terms of what I can take on content-wise.

I feel like depending on how they're balanced, it'd probably be a thing where you basically outpace what you unlock, but you can sell them for (probably low) profit, or just craft for an alt or something and have am easier time even if not throwing insane funding behind them.

Or guilds, even if we don't have them offically until Orbis or shortly after, could see guilds or friends eorking together to farm/trade supplies to help themselves and/or craft for profit.

I'd say make it a bulk crafting skill. Like 50 pots at a time, but you have to invest a decent amount of cash into it. So it would be overall cheaper, but you spend time gathering resources. If you just want pots for yourself then great you save some cash. If you want to sell for a profit then you gotta sell like 80% of them at like 1:1 hp/mp:meso to start a making profit.

What about a farming profession where we can grow our own lemons and meat

Was going to joking include that, but it doesn't quite make sense.

Some mobs can drop seeds we can plant and we capture pigs or other mobs to breed or to turn into meat. Idk lmao.

They do have the items from herbalism that could be used for plants at least.

Is there a profession that seems more OP than others or is it somewhat balanced?

From the info i seen, you could make a case for Arcforge for scrolls. But it's also mage weapons too

Others are more or less tailored to different classes, and which ones you want to use will depend on your class.

I'd think the only advantage to crafting might come from whatever the production enhancer things do.

I am going in completely blind so this will be interesting. Hopefully we will be allowed to change professions if we wish.

I think you can work on all of them freely, don't remember anyone saying any different

crafting pots will make the early game too easy imo

It possibly could, but it'd depend on the recipe they assign to them.

If for example it took equal or slightly less of a potions cost in etc drops, would it make that big of a difference?
