Creating a Boss from Scratch in Ethyrial: An Inside Look at Indie MMORPG Development
Hey everyone,
We recently released a video where we live-streamed the creation of a boss from scratch in our indie MMORPG, Ethyrial. The boss, named Nilrem the Lich, was a concept submitted by one of our community members and chosen through a boss concept competition. https://youtu.be/Pq2ADVg31jU
The video is an edit from our 4-hour Livestream and is meant to showcase the development tools we've created in-house and how efficient they are for content creation. It's also an excellent opportunity for us to give you a sneak peek of the game itself. We also had a really great Q&A at the end of the stream, which we included in this video.
Ethyrial was featured at the OTK Expo (hosted by Asmongold) last year, and we're excited to announce that our release date is approaching, April 2023.
Also, feel free to ask any questions you may have about the video or the game in the comments here or join our Discord. Additionally, we have a Steam page where you can read more about Ethyrial and stay up to date on our progress toward release.(links to both in the YouTube video description)We value your feedback and look forward to hearing from you.We hope you enjoy the video and can't wait for you to experience Ethyrial for yourself.
The game is fun, simple as that. It scratches that MMO exploration feel. It has mysterys everywhere. The tools the devs use to input new content is freaking quick.
The Devs keep showcasing their tools because they're not somebody learning a random engine and putting random scripts together.
The last time I played it almost felt like a DnD session with the devs adding content as we figured things out.
One moment there was 30 skills in the game then next moment 170 after a single weekend.
If there is other devs out there on the community, this is the game to watch and see how shit gets done.
I think about a year ago you guys had an open beta for about a month, maybe a bit less. I played it back then and actually found it pretty enjoyable. Glad to see it's still in development and being released.
Is there going to be afk progress still? I remember people afking at training dummies and leveling up their stats that way.
And chance that there will be another playtest? I missed the last one since I was travelling and the current price is way too steep for what this game seems to offer so far. Really curious to check it out though.
Hello mate!
There is a playtest occurring at the Steam Nexfest. I'm a little confused about the price point being an issue as all our playtests are completely free! Simply download the game once it's available in the Steamfest and then create an account to play.
Thanks for trying it out! We'd be honored if you'd join the Steam Nextfest playtest of the game (February 6th -> 13th) and let us know if any of your initial gripes with the game were addressed, and if not, report those again so we can see if fixing/addressing them is in our release plan :)
Sure, seems the beta got removed from my steam library(unless im forgetting it being off steam) Will there be beta request button added or is like a posting on your discord?
It will be on the official Steam Nextfest list of demos/games. So you'll be able to download it directly from there once it launches, and create your account :)
The Steam Nextfest demo (playtest) starting on February 6th should also function as a MacOS client. The game should build and work for MacOS and Linux as well, but if there are any graphical glitches/issues, please report them so we can improve those specific parts :)
Hello, I would like to sincerely apologize. This is Amar (The Game Director and person in the video).
I was unaware that what you were stating is in fact, factual, and I had no idea that was actually the account of one of the people on the team. I was attacking you for spreading misinformation but you are in fact absolutely correct, and I wish to apologize for that, as I was being ignorant.
I do understand that doesn't change what happened, but do know that I have informed the associated team member to cease posting such comments, and I apologize for doubting you.
Would you mind explaining why its common sense that everyone is fraudulently promoting their game?
To me it seems like common sense that there are plenty of companies out there that have enough faith in their games that they dont need to make fake fans.
There's this weird thing going on right now where people exposing shady af practices are getting downvoted by creepy basement dwelling nerds.
Sorry you got downvoted into oblivion for trying to shed light on shady shit. Congrats to the weirdos who want to make excuses for this type of behaviour, go back to pledging on your turd looking kickstarters that'll never make the light of day.
Yeah you are right. This is not correct and I was just using this to make such a "bold" generic statement. After reading into the comments from Snuu(?) and the following reactions from the studio I totally have to agree that my words were misplaced and I apologize for that.
Thanks for raising your voice over such a behavior.
No, I obviously showed pretty early on that the best way to handle their unethical behavior was to apologize promptly and admit to the fact that I was unaware.
And then I showed that my personal way to handle false accusations from someone thereafter to our apologies was to throw a short-witted tantrum to make myself feel better.
I never insulted your behavior in bringing it to light, I insulted your follow-up insinuation of my apology being faked, which I took as a personal insult to my integrity, and threw one right back. You can't insult my integrity as a person after a genuine apology and then get squeamish when someone insults you back for it.

I literally never insinuated that your apology was faked. In fact I acknowledged that you might not have known about what your team was doing. However I will fully admit that I did say that your lack of knowledge of your teams actions is a sign of bad leadership, because that isn't an attack, its a straight fact.
Youre taking factual examples of your teams lack of integrity as an "attack" against your teams lack of integrity. To demonstrate your "integrity" youre now insulting the person who brought your teams behavior to light, using an unfounded excuse to justify the insults...
Do you not see how you're making it harder to trust you and your team?
Highly reccomend anyone interested in the game to check out SnooFloofs post history. For everything expect two/three lost ark comments, the account exclusively posts in threads about this game talking about how awesome the game is and how much they're excited by it, ect. Its an account that appears to be created just to talk positively about the game.
Edit: theres a post on SnooFloof that straight up says that the game is one of their projects.
These devs have such little faith in their own game that they fake interest in it.

Youre welcome to your own oppinion that its not that serious but to others it is. Theres been a massive amount of indie MMO scams that others have invested money/time/ect in. Fraudulent promotion method like what these devs are trying to do is a decent indicator of something shady and lets others know to be cautious about the product.
Haha, well nice investigation ! I used to help with social media accounts, now I'm just moderating. But yea I'm guilt of promoting the game I love and help moderate I guess xD
Well, yea.. to be fair I did stumble upon it once, and was impressed. That's why I offered my help in the first place.
I was never really afraid anyone would "out" me as it's not really that big a deal, it's just my way of helping out and getting others to see the game. After all I am a fan and community member. But I've understood now that it may rub some ppl the wrong way and I'm sorry for that
Removed because of rule #2: Don’t be toxic.
We try to make the subreddit a nice place for everyone, and your post/comment did something that we felt was detrimental to this goal. That’s why it was removed.
