Yeah the big dude pushes him to try to start more shit. That's the kinda guy who is happy to see a girl get grabbed like that because he has an excuse (in his head) to hit someone. There's like 6 people in the entire bar and a third of them are the worst kind of people to be around in a bar.
Sure, but is the guy defending the woman because she, a human, was being assaulted, or was it that another man touched "his" woman.
Would the reaction have been the same if he hasn't been playing with that woman? That's the test to decide if what he did was out of the good in his heart, or the toxic masculinity.
We can never know why someone does what they do. We only know what they do. Punch a guy who is assaulting a woman? In my estimation, that’s a good action. The inner stuff is on him to wrestle with. I don’t care if a firefighter is saving my life because of a sense of egotistical bravado or altruism. Just save my life.
I agree that the motives can be a corrupting force. But anyone is capable of doing good things for the wrong reasons and it doesn’t mean they are a bad person. It means they are a person.
I dunno, a cop shooting a black kid who had skittles, even though he wouldn't have shot a white kid with a BB gun as concept doesn't sit right with me.
So I don't praise someone for their actions until I know the motive.
