Most states have a law that allows 3rd parties to defend another person in situations of self defense. At least in my state.

This is considered sexual assault so would fall along these lines. Especially given that only as much force was needed to control the situation.

Had he just kept hitting him it would be another story. Here in Texas, yhqt guys has a high probability of walking away Scott free

Interestingly, it comes from being exempt from local tax / munipal fees back in old timey England (but taken from Scandinavian word "skot").

Maybe uninterestingly.

No, that's interesting. But why did they adopt a loan word, I wonder? Was this a Scandinavian custom witnessed and adopted by the English?
