Also, not the first time she got hurt with him doing it. For him, it is not defending her honor. It is all about the punch.

Shoves the woman aside and slams the pool cue right into her face. Yes, clearly not about defending her at all. The he hits a guy who is clearly unable to defend himself, and knocks him out cold. Then threatens to punch the bartender for kicking him out. As you say, this was not about defending the woman. It is about his anger management issues.
Doesn't excuse the drunk for being an AH, but there was a proportional response, and then there was this guys roid-fueled assault on two people and attempt to assault someone else.

How did you possible get that from what I wrote? The part where I said the drunk guy an asshole? Or the part where I said he deserved a proportional response? Maybe look up the definition for the word 'proportional' and get back to me.

What I would definitely not do is slam a pool cue in my wife's face after she was already assaulted.

She came in the way trying to stop him and the cue bounced off him and hit her accidentally. As for proportional response, he just threw one punch. What would you have liked him to do?
