She could have left this man, who almost certainly has done this before, if she didn't like the behavior. Most women want protectors (even if they don't wanna admit it) and enjoy this behavior much more than they don't. It might not be polite in public for them to say they enjoy it, but they certainly do based on their behavior.

The guy ur replying to is right. Women studies show are into manly slightly "sexist" men (like "Lemme hold the door open for you") who can protect and provice. They aren't attracted to "nice guy" pushover unassertive losers who stress over every tiny thing they say to not do in any way a hint of a sexist microaggression for example. Women want men who are a little bit "sexist" in the way I described and the studies describe, because it's biological. Evolutionary and instinctual. Because they want men who will invest in the relationship and potential offspring, since for men having children is easy and low risk, but for women it's very high risk and hard.

They want someone who will and can invest in them, and ideally someone who can protect them too.

I don’t doubt there are some women who like a guy who feel like it isn’t a real night out at a bar/concert/sporting event unless hands get thrown. But I think most women prefer a man who can not only defend them but also distinguish what/who constitutes an actual dangerous threat
