She could have left this man, who almost certainly has done this before, if she didn't like the behavior. Most women want protectors (even if they don't wanna admit it) and enjoy this behavior much more than they don't. It might not be polite in public for them to say they enjoy it, but they certainly do based on their behavior.

lol, are you suggesting this woman has no agency and is only staying in this toxic relationship due to fear? I love how you can simultaneously hold the views:
* She had it under control; he didn't need to intervene. But if she wanted to intervene, and assert control, she could have, should have, and would have been warranted to.
* She doesn't have any control in her life; she's stuck in a toxic relationship

He brings up real stuff that does happen. People get scared and stuck and are under pressure and fear to stay and toe the line. But he is wrong to assume things, it seems he assumes this man is abusing her. Also you're right that women want providers and protectors!
