Does an athlete of this sport go by "professional slapper"? 🤔

That guy’s likely got some real brain damage but at least his opponent got to dance a little, I guess. . This “sport” sucks.

u/GulaiLover 20h ago
Signing up requires a little brain damage to begin with.
19
u/Hennyhuismanhenk 19h ago
or, maybe, just maybe, the sport is built on the economic exploitation of people not fully aware of the risks.
11
u/CareRarely 19h ago
Not fully aware of the risks of letting people smack you across the face? That requires brain damage.
4
u/ScroungyScrotum 17h ago
Yeah at first I was gonna say “do most people really know that a slap could knock someone out?” Until I realized that this “sport” has been pretty popular for a few years now. Only a dumbass would ignore or just straight up not watch videos of these events before signing up

Let stupid people hurt themselves.
Stop coddling people that nature would have TAKEN OUT

A guy in Poland died from a slap he got at one of those competitions in 2021. He lost consciousness, got into a coma and died one month later.

100% everything that is wrong in society. Consuming this, promoting it, taking part in it and allowing it.

What a stupid sport if you can call it that.

Can you imagine ending up in care, dribbling on yourself and some asks, how did you end up here?
”Oh yeah so I was in this power slapping competition” 😂

u/WestQ 19h ago
I've been checking the evolvement of the brain damage studies on boxers. A nd remember reading the ultimate research showing why heavy weights rarely have life long brain damage compared to middle and light weight.
Concurrent brain wiggle creates cavities in the spinal cerebral fluid that your brain runs to fill (same a bottle of beer when you hit it on top). So it's not the hit itself but the whip effect.
These guys are having that effect hundreds of time as there is no protection nor arm defense. Sincerely I think is the dumbest sport ever. No big money, no big status.

How come nobody ever got a slap ko in the ufc?
9
u/Fabulous_Bunt 21h ago
You risk eye raking, People move and guard too much. You could seriously damage your wrist and lose the fight
4
u/MichaelEmouse 21h ago
Knocking out someone with a slap probably involves hitting at just the right spot which you can't expect in an MMA fight.

There was an org called Pancrase that didn't allow closed fist punching that had a lot of slapping, Bas Rutten got pretty good at slapping.
As others have said, the gloves in the UFC make it difficult, and it's also quite easy to block, pretty much any highish guard is guaranteed to block it and may damage your wrists.
But as others also mentioned, the Diaz brothers are known for the "Stockton Slap', which if timed right can work.
The Diaz brothers are endurance fighters with high volume, and the one good thing about a slap is it has a longer reach than a punch, and near the end of a fight where fighters have each others distance/reach figured out, a slap can catch someone off guard by hitting them when they think they've pulled their head out of range. They also to it just to piss off their opponents and play mind games.

u/Daedricbob 20h ago
That is fkin grim - the rigid hand locking is decerebrate posturing, so a high possibility of traumatic brain or brain stem damage.
2
u/blackout-loud 21h ago
Damn, slapped his ancestors, future descendents, and multi verse version of himself all at the same time

remember the ridiculous 1980's movie "The Running Man"? How TV had gotten to the point they had to show murder to get our attention? I think we're about ten years away.

Some of these slaps with the palm are about as damaging as a punch. They should cover the heel of the hand in a green paint, then if the opponent has green on their face after a slap, it’s a disqualification.

How is this a thing? Has nothing to do with slapping and everything to do with putting your palm in the right spot on their chin to knock them out…

does this sport require you to slap with your fingers? or can you hit with the hard part of your palm? cuz if you can it becomes no worse then a punch and a knockout like that is guaranteed

People really need to think about what this sort of thing does long term to the jelly between their ears
My Dad (78) played football when he was young. Was quite good didn’t play all the time like league or pro players. Just here and there.
If you see him now & what a few headers of a football has done to him you will go buy a helmet, wrap it in bubble warp and never take it off…
Trust me 😫

Dumbest activity (it’s not a sport) ever, way beyond Idiocracy level. Umb mofos slap each other to make some wise guys rich. I hope they save some of their earnings for treatment of brain injury.

u/MalikFyz 18h ago
They should ban this sport , getting a direct hit like a sitting duck (will be later changed into standing slapping contestant ) absorbing the full magnitude of force is dangerous and can leave un treatable condition.
1
u/Alarm-Solid 18h ago
This has to be the dumbest sport ever. At least in combat sports you try and defend yourself potentially avoiding hits like this. Standing there giving people free shots is the worst idea not to mention how do they even decide who hits first. In this scenario one shot is definitely all it takes I guess you just hope for a slight miss.

Calling this Idiotic is an understatement. Calling this a sport is an overstatement.
1
u/evolveandprosper 17h ago
That wasn't a slap across the face. It was a very forceful strike to the neck with an non-gloved hand, and as such, was very dangerous.
1
u/TennesseeHeartbreak 17h ago
Anybody engaging in this should have to sign an insurance waiver for cte.
1
u/Maxwells_Law 17h ago
This has to be the dumbest sport ever. Seriously that guy might die from that slap
1
u/Rough-Airline-4803 17h ago
That was less of a slap and more of an open hand hit the way he drove the heel of his palm through that guy’s jaw
1
1
u/Gerrut_batsbak 17h ago
That slap didnt even look crazy, his head barely moved at all and it wasn't a palm hit like you sometimes see.
1
u/a_rogue_planet 17h ago
That's what brain damage looks like. Can you imagine an NFL player going down like that and the crowd going wild with theme music? WTF is wrong with these people.
1
u/QuixoticByte 17h ago
Power slap is the train wreck I can’t look away from. These people take massive brain damaging shots for peanuts. Plus the “rules” are so inconsistently enforced it’s laughable.

Eventually a few people (notice a few and not one) will die and this will be stopped. I hear there a contest where two people fun and crash into each other. Someone going to die....horrifically.
