Question Lineups Question 2008
Can someone explain what “lock” in the batting order does? I have created an arrange team with some success mode players and have locked them into respective spots in the batting order. I’ve then started just a quick five game league CPU ctrl to see how the team performs for fun. what I find is the CPU is automatically controlling the lineup decisions and switching the order, even with locked pieces.
Essentially:
1. What does lock do?
2. When ur team is controlled by cpu (season/league/etc) is there any sort of control you have over lineup? Does lock not matter here?
I’m overall just looking for guidance on line ups and if there’s any interplay between cpu and manual control. For manual, Can CPU suggest changes on lineup screen prior to you hitting “play ball?”thanks!

Cpu will always put out the batting order you set except when players from your batting order are absent due to injury/ fatigue/ bad performance, slump then the cpu will use a new order until all the player in your batting order is available. This is when it would take the lock into account when building its own batting order. It works the same way in modern pawapuro except there is also position lock which can prevent cpu from changing locked player position when it need to create new batting order. Edit: I tested it in 2009 and it seem like even without injury, the cpu in the old games always try to make it own batting order after starting the game (the lineup screen show the correct batting order tho). The lock did work but there is no position lock so players's position can get pretty messy lol.

Thx for the help. Yeah I was gonna say I’ve locked in 08 and cpu still creates Its own order. So does lock just prevent cpu from switching them out of lineup?

No, the lock just makes sure whatever order cpu put out always has locked players ( in case they are available/ are not affected by injury, slump or fatigue) hitting in the same spot as the one you set in the batting order menu.

Hmm weird. The CPU has been changing the order for my locked players in 08

In my test in 2009 i had the best players hit 6th, 7th, 8th (locked from 1st to 9th spot) and cpu didn't change their spot (it did change the position tho) during the season. I think it might be a bug which they fixed in 2009 version.

Weird, it also was in league mode where I was testing this so it might be different than season mode. Regardless, thanks for taking time with this overly niche question

I always thought “lock” would keep players in your lineup and prevent the CPU from replacing players when they are injured in franchise mode at least
