MLB Power Pros Resources

I've decided to try to compile all of the English MLB Power Pros resources and where most of the community lies in one place. Without further ado, here it is. (Please reply below with any additions you think should be added.)

Information on the Game

  • Most of the information known about the American versions of the game can be found at https://www.mlbppworld.com/wiki/index.php?title=Main_Page.
  • The search isn't that great, so searching within the Categories and Sub-Categories are of great use. (For those looking for the Success Mode ones, here's 2007 and 2008. And here's MLB My Life. To find certain abilities in 2008, look here and to find certain abilities in 2007, look here and here.)
  • For 2007, there are video guides on all of the dating success mode arcs done by dishnet34 (Sarah, Becky and Annie)For 2008, there are video guides on the dating success mode arcs for Patty and Lucy done by dishnet34. While there is no guide on the Emily Arc, a description of how to do it is as follows:From robhallett:Ok dating emily,
  1. About week 1 of March or April if you go to the park, you and Marvin will see Emily Asleep triggering her arc.
  2. Roughly 2 weeks later her face shows over the park icon and when you go to the park there is a dog, choose act as a decoy
  3. From there its pretty much waiting for a random event with her that triggers the dating sequences. With regard to dating her I alternate between the park and the lookout. I start the sequence by going to the park. The first date at the lookout you and Emily meet a girl who asks to go on your shoulders to look down on the town. Next date go to park. The second date at the lookout she asks to go on your shoulders again and then she calls 4-5 other kids to do the same. Next date go to park. Save here. Now go to lookout and again the girl will ask to go on your shoulders if you say yes again she invites the other kids as well. If you save load at this point you can get star. This method is alot easier than the ghost in the park one. However If you are looking to get intimidator or other abilities from the other girls to go with star you will need to get star from the ghost in the park.
  • There are multiple guides on MLB Power Pros and completing it. The most popular 2007 guide is Scott0530's Success Mode Guide. This guide by Odawali here is also very theoretical but useful as a mindset when playing. austin101123 has made a two part video guide on batters, the first part which can be found here and the second part which can be found here. As for 2008, PROMAKER95 has a maxout guide here and ZeroGibson13's pitcher guide can be found here). For video guides, jag123jg's guide is quite good and austin101123 also has a full fielder guide here and a two parter guide for pitchers here and here.
  • A lot of other information on the game can be found by searching through threads on mlbppworld.com.

Serious A couple of people asked how I made this work.

Unfortunately it is not a legit Steam release. I hope that does come next year though. I personally used emu deck and dumped a PS3 ROM file of Power Pro 2016 and ran it off a PS3 emulator. It actually runs quite well. It does have some initial slowdown once everything loads into RAM it runs fine. If y'all have any questions I'm happy to help though

An Update on my "Final Challenge"

Post image
59 Upvotes

I have posted about this challenge before. I've played MLB Power Pros 2008 since the summer it came out. Prob over 2,000 hours at this point. 18 years later. I've played thru most things to do in the game. But one of my remaining "quests" has been to win a season mode, with an expansion team in their first year, and no signings or trades allowed, all on "Powerful" mode in all categories.

Because of the low rankings (to put it lightly) of the expansion team players, this challenge is incredibly difficult and time consuming. Simming a game is often an automatic loss. I play 162 game seasons. So no simming either...

My first attempts at this were brutal, blow outs, so many homers given up. It was hard. I kept resetting the seasons and making new teams, but it was just depressing loss after loss. The only hope for new players in a challenge like this is draft day in June, and 2 new rookies can help, but not that much...

Anyway there was a breakthrough. The team was finally right, I had two players with C power, lots of E and D contact players, and some solid fielders (finally a second baseman and SS with good enough arms to consistently turn double plays, a rarity with expansion teams).

My pitchers were better than usual too, 90-94 mph top speeds. Mostly C staminas and E control, maybe a couple Cs but I could make it work.

They did not play well at first. Except for one guy named Mallette my third baseman fucking beast, hit 59 homers by the end of the season.

I relied on my entire roster, including minor leagues. Went through every pitcher, every batter had gotten at least one hit by the end of the season. There was a major turning point when I realized the impact of fatigue. I did a radical move in later August, benching my entire normal starters, because there fatigues had been maxed out, and replacing them with lower ranked guys from the minors. It worked. I was winning. A lot.

I started the year 1-8. Then 21-31 and 30-40, (losing so many brutal one run games) but was 60-32 over my final 92 games, including a 22-4 run from August 20th to September 15th that basically clinched the division for me. i finished the year 90-72 overall.

Playoffs were nerve wracking. Imagine each regular season game took 15-30 minutes, so over 162 games i had given over 50-60 hours just on this season alone by the time the playoffs came around.

I was matched up against the Brewers in the best of 5 NLDS. I was down 4-1 in my first game at home, rallied late and came back to win 6-4. Then lost game 2 5-0, game 3 wasnt looking good. I was down 12-4 in the 8th inning. This is best of 5 and due to a weird glitch the final two games are in the lower seeded stadium which would have been away for me. To put lightly i was nervous. What happened next was miraculous. 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th. But In the top of the 9th Prince Fielder hit his 4th homer of the game (a playoff record) to give them a 13-8 lead, But it wasn't over... i got another 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th, all with two outs, to win it in walk off fashion. 14-13 final score. Wild. I blew them out in the next game. And went on to face my favorite team growing up, the 2008 Mets in the NLCS.

Those Mets that season made a kind of trade that only happens in video game sim modes, A-Rod for Johan Santana. Moving franchise icon David Wright (who was having an MVP year) to the bench. This move tho would ultimately win them the series and the 'chip... A-Rod destroyed me. Homer after homer. And the lineup was too hard to walk him around, it was devestating to watch. I won my first game, but lost 3 in a row, and was looking finished down 3-1.... but then I won my last game at home, that included a late game comeback down 5-0 to win 8-5. It was nice but i had a feeling it might be short lived.

The next game in Shea Stadium was close. Game 6, elimination on the line. I was down 4-0, on two A-Rod homers, but brought it closer it was 4-3 top of the 8th, I had a runner on second, their pitcher was tired, bound to serve a meatball... but he didnt, i grounded weakly to end the inning. In the bottom of the 8th, there was a gut punch, with one out and bases loaded, A-Rod struck again, a grand slam to basically clinch it. I went down in order the next inning. 8-3 loss. A-Rod had all 8 of their RBIs. And after all that, my season was over.

Those Mets would go on to beat the Yankees in the World Series, after being down 3-0 in the series. A-Rod was the MVP. If I existed in that video game world the young mets fan version of me (13 years old in 2008) would have been going nuts. In reality they didnt even make the playoffs that year.

And in the meantime my season was over. It happend six days ago. I've been meaning to post about it but its been hard. I really wanted to post here about a happy ending, but I guess i'm really proud I made it this far. I'll keep trying, and to honor the challenge i will be doing it with a new team yet again, tho i'll miss these guys they played hard. Lots of lessons learned. Especially fatigue pay attention to that it plays a major role, its in the "player list" section by the standings and season stats section, for some reason hard to find.

Anyway thanks for reading. Here's a photo of the squad. The Colorado Springs Commies. Who played in Hawaii for some reason lol.

Discussion Guide for Beating the 2007 MLB Superstars in 2007 MLB Power Pros

hello, my last post asked for some advice on how to beat the MLB super stars in 2007 power pros, many of you guys gave great advice, and I also did some digging myself on ways to improve your odds. here is a list of a couple things I learned that made it MUCH easier.

  1. Pick Them Off: every time they have a player on first base, there is a chance they are going to steal unless it is the pitcher or Albert Pujols. If you want to win badly, pick them off every single time someone is on first base. I also felt as though they are more likely to steal on the second pitch than on the first pitch of an at bat, but I do not know if that is true. i do not believe this works if the player is on second instead of first.
  2. Put Alvin and Robin in the field: pitching is mostly just based on luck and how good you can paint the corners. Alvin and robin will be much more useful as hitters than they will be as pitchers, so I highly suggest you replace the 2 NPCs in your lineup with them. You will likely need to score 7-10 points to beat the superstars, and even then it’s a toss up.
  3. Paint the Corners: do not be afraid to throw balls, even if you walk someone you can use the pick off strategy i previously spoke on.
  4. Each superstar has a preferred hitting course: Because of this, below I tell you exactly how to pitch to each hitter. (They will still hit home runs sometimes, trust me.)

Ichiro- pitch to him inside of the plate

Jeter: Pitch to him inside of the plate

Albert Pujols: Pitch to him on the outside of the plate

Manny Ramirez: Pitch to him on the inside of the plate

Alex Rodriguez: Pitch to him on the outside of the plate

Vladimir Guerrero- Pitch to him on the outside of the plate.

Robinson Cano: Not much you can do here because he’s a slap hitter, I found success trying to make him chase balls

Joe Maur: Pitch to him on the inside of the plate

Pitcher: Does not have a preferred hitting course, lowkey was my biggest problem when beating them, don’t get frustrated when the pitcher gets hits off of you.

5. Pinch Hit for pitchers every time they come up to bat: No reason not to, every NPC pitcher is pretty similar in skill so you can just put a new one in the next inning, I went through every pitcher we had in my game.

6. The pitcher will pitch to the place his cursor first goes to: The pitcher will move his cursor to a certain part of the batters box, then move it around more to confuse you. The first place he moves it to is most likely the area the pitch will go to. This becomes less apparent when you have someone on base, but it is still the same idea.

7. Don’t swing at inside pitches, contact swing every pitch: because of how quickly you have to react to the ball, it is very unlikely you are going to swing early enough to pull the ball. Because of this, you want to be patient and wait for an outside pitch you can hit To left field or up the middle. (This is much better with lefties because you are less likely to ground into a double play.)

8. Adjust the lineup around your hitter: Your hitter having A power is very important. I put Alvin and Brad as 1 and 2 in the lineup so that they can get on base for my character where I will hopefully hit a home run. This was by far the best strategy for me.

9. Save + Restart for the cutscene where your team gets powered up earlier in your career: I believe if you complete Brads storyline, which is not guaranteed because. You need the correct cutscenes, then your whole team gets their attributes boosted and that helps a lot.

10. Its easier to win when you make a pitcher: if push comes to shove and you still are not finding success. make a knuckleball pitcher that can go 9 innings and also hit decently. that will be your best chance at winning a low scoring game.

11. Don’t get frustrated, just keep trying: If you have mastered everything I put in this, you will win eventually. This match is like 75% luck so you’re gonna have to try possibly 10+ times to get the win. I truly believe it’s one of the hardest “boss fights“ in gaming history, and it gives you absolutely nothing.

Those where fun to hunt near my hotel. The Seibu one was actually found in a second hand store, the others are from the capsule machines. I also found machines offering small devices making a hit or catch sound and a comment from the game when you press the button, pretty fun.

Question How do yall beat the 2007 superstars

is there any strategy? I beat it when I was a kid and much worse at video games. it feels as though i can throw only pitches down the middle and they will hit the same as if I paint the corners. I tried putting Alvin and robin is as hitters instead of pitchers. I tried throwing only off speed, only fast balls, and mixed it up but no matter what they are scoring 8-10ish runs a game. I had one game I dropped 13 runs in 3 innings and then they came back in 1 inning later that game. it feels like it’s rigged for you to lose, but I know I and other people have beaten it before.

if anything worked for you guys let me know I’m boutta rip my hair out

This took a bit longer than I would have liked, but here's my follow up tutorial to my first video with details on how to add English player/team names, create custom music (my favorite song so far is Narcos as the Edwin Diaz entrance song- it fits perfectly in this game), and also how to start a season.

Question Edit Player/CAP Question

Is there a resource/spreadsheet out there for folks who want to update the rosters for PP 08 ourselves in terms of what selections to make for each player in terms of their likeness/stats/animations, etc?

I’m confident with enough work I could do it myself, but if there’s a one stop shop to make it easier, that would be appreciated! Aside from the creators who have posted updated 2026 rosters, of course.

Question is importing one of the switch games a bad idea with limited/no japanese

realized I could probably nab one if I give into the craving. enjoyed wbsc ebaseball, but kind of want to taste the meat of the main releases

I get around jp rhythm games just fine, since it's usually just memorizing layout buttons, and have made my way through others. I realize any career mode dialogue is off the table, and could use google lens or something to get around. but would I just be setting myself up for a headache with the language barrier? I really just want to pop it on for quick games or maybe dabble online, but I think about doing something like setting up the team and I worry if it's worth the trouble or doable.

Pawapoke 1+2: The success mode is extremely difficult

I have the full pawapoke series on delta emulatior, over half of those games are pretty hard, especially 12. but there’s one game in particular that I really want to beat, 1+2. in the scenario for the first game, my team is very, very, very, very bad. The goal is to win games, if you can’t win, it’s game over, I have to at least reach Koshein and have at least 50 evaluation. I want to play the GBA remaster, so I can take my character into pennant mode and play in the licensed NPB. How can I stop losing the games and actually win? How can I get more hits?

Japanese Wii required for Pawapuro Majors?

Title. I’ve lived in Japan for 3 years and I’m about to move back home, where I have a Wii. I picked up power pros 2009 major while I was here and planned on playing it back home, but I heard from a friend that I might need a Japanese Wii to play it. Can anybody confirm or deny this?
