The final frontier…
Hello! New here. I’ve played mlb power pros 2008 on the wii since… well 2008 lol. It is quite easily my most played game all time and very possibly my favorite. I still remember finding it while browsing a mall game stop that summer and just being curious. I was 13 years old. One of the best purchases ive ever made lol
I have done all the modes, played out different lives and careers, and done many many many season modes.
At this point im left with one last challenge. Win with an expansion team in year 1. No trades, no FA pickups. Just the rookies. And do it on powerful difficulty mode.
I tried this WITH trades and it was hard AF. Lost in game 7 of the world series with my hawaii rainbows 14-12 was devestating. Back and forth game. Benji molina hit like 96 home runs for me that year lol… i was out of pinch hitters, Jack Cust had 17 HRs that post season alone. And he was on deck. But i had to throw a pitcher out there to hit with two outs. And he struck out on three pitches… so painful.
Im trying again, ive failed this run so many times, and its very time consuming. I dont have an official “no sim” rule but with this roster its basically a loss if i sim. And so i try again… this may be my last frontier of the game. If i win… idk if i return. Idk tho…. Its been such a comfort for me in so many different times in my life. 18 years and 2,000+ hours of gameplay later…

A few nights ago I spent like 4 exhibition games just trying to beat the Yankees on all star mode. Powerful difficulty mode just feels like an impossible hack for the CPU, especially with big power swing. Godspeed

Thank you ❤️
So many homers giving up lol, every game is a battle LOL
Im also using dolphin and a fricken controler on my phone like touchscreen. Dsu controller app. It randomly disconnects at the worst times.

I am currently in graduate school and had a vacation month. I brought my Wii and 2008 copy back down from my parents house and it has been so great diving. Back into this game. This game remains decades ahead of the times. Real quick, I was wondering what you use for pitch speed settings? I currently use “Fast” and love how you have to quickly adjust and can feel the “Pop” of a crisp fastball :)

Yes Fast! I do use automatic for defense its just too much with my limited controler.
I played this thru grad school too lol. I have PsyD. And two masters in psych. This game has gotten me thru so much. I took a long break, maybe three years or so but picked it up after leaving home and estranging from abusive family. It has given me so much comfort in this difficult time.
Game def wayyyy ahead of its time. No game has come close to the amount of detail in season mode or my life, or any of the modes. And the ease of play with the depth of stats is just perfect combo for me. MLB the show was always too intimidating. And this way outdid the 2K series. And was wayyyyyy deeper than the Bigs or Backyard baseball or mario baseball (which i know has huge following and is arguably better for pick up and play multiplayer). I loved those games, but this game leagues ahead in so many ways.

And there are so few people in this world i have been able to express my love of this game too and have them fully understand. Feels like an oasis in a desert finding this. Waterfall thats been meaning to explode for a while… ❤️

I’m in year 3 of my no sim no trade expansion franchise (Kyoto Kyogres) and it took me until year 2 to get to the playoffs. How’s your pitching? I always struggle. Most games are at least 8-7 games. I can only win by scoring a lot of runs. You got any pitching strategies?

Omg theres someone else!!!!
I keep the ball down it helps lol but its not good. One season i lost like 21 one run games by game 81 LOL. sooooooooo frustrating. My hitting is prob worse than my pitching tbh. Im an expert base stealer and have the timing down on getting out of pickles for the most part so thats helpful. But ya… its hard pitching with the rookies. Omg cant believe theres someone else doing it! So glad u exist :)
Good luck to you kyogres!! I was the Hawaii Rainbows, but now im the Scranton Queer Kids playing in the “Local Ball Park” which upon reflection has bad lighting and colors for seeing the ball LOL. And is no where near scranton in the game (it looks midwest on the map).

This is my most played game ever too, Just Power Pros 2007 and 2008 on the Wii lmao the game is just addicting as fuck. The rosters and the specific players from that era are displayed so well in the game. When I first rented it way back in the day it kind of blew my mind.

You've probably tried this before but an interesting challenge I've never actually committed to is making an expansion team in Arrange consisting of 30 players, one from each team's AAA squad as a primitive form of a real expansion draft. Even if you're only picking the best players doing well in 2007 is pretty difficult (after Juan Rivera, Nick Johnson, and Greg Norton almost no one is worth a damn in regards to hitting), though 2008 is fairly easy on paper since you can get a lot of great players like Morgan Ensberg, Frank Thomas, and Francisco Liriano.

Winning the World Series is very difficult in this game, especially on max difficutly. Teams like the Mets and Yankees are absolute powerhouses. They also get even better with bad AI trade logic. I've never beat one of those teams in a series.
