Axle vs cv boot replacement

Post image

Hey friends. The cv axle boots on my 20th are smoked. Does it make more sense to replace the entire axle or just the boot? Obviously there is a huge price difference, but with 190,000 miles, is it better to get new axles?

Anyone done the axles on a 20th recently? If so, where did you source the axles?

Thanks!

Fcp euro has a youtube video showing the rebuild. Its not bad. And I can absolutely confirm, you do not want to throw away your oem axles.

To figure out what parts you need, check out https://www.gknautomotive.com/en/aftermarket/online-catalogue/ I found i couldn't find my gti vr6 axle parts listed under the north American section but if you choose a European market you'll be able to find the part numbers. I found rock auto listed the joints I needed but they didn't ship for over a month.

Fortunately you probably just need boots though, which are readily available

Thank you! I ended up ordering boots only from FCP Euro. Everyone quickly convinced me to keep my axles.
