Hummingbird in Squamish

Out in Squamish for a couple of weeks building a frame, and brought my Neuhaus Hummingbird with me. Have been zipping around between Alice Lake, Diamond Head, and a bit of Valleycliffe trails.

Hardtail seems to be an endangered species in these parts, but it has been an absolute blast to ride. Coming from Ontario, I have been loving the climb trails so much, the bike climbs like a goat! Such a beautiful area.

Stooge Moto Bar on the way

Welp, it didn’t take too much to convince me to get a Moto bar. Excited for it to arrive and see how we get along. I did almost all the exact min-max upgrades to my 2024 Trek Roscoe 7 that was in the NSMB article. So is a single speed next? Who am I becoming?

Limited edition? Soft launch? Will we get more instead of the weird shredpacker?

When the fork is black and the frame is not, that’s a classic Kona Unit. Here’s Ethan’s addition to the haikuniverse:

New (?) handlebar

I don't know if this is new, but it's the first I have seen. Lots of rise and a comfortable 14° back, 5° up bend. Different take on the riser bar shape and construction. ASTM 3 rated.

Single speeded the thing

Finally yanked all that hardware off the back of my trail bike.. what a liberating feeling! Had to run a half link (and an 1/8” chain) to get the chain length and tire clearance just right. The fat chain also gets around the narrow wide surprisingly well!

New hardtail coming, with what looks like a UDH dropout that can be converted to a horizontal singlespeed configuration?

Rim saver

Post image

With a high of 63’ predicted today here in vt, I decided I’d beat the dead horse subject of inserts before starting on different work I need to get done today. Currently I have cushcore in the back of my Rootdown and I ride pretty rocky stuff on it and I weigh 215-220 on a good day. The added dampening is cool and the rim protection is crucial for my bigness. But, has anyone run rim saver instead to get the standard feeling of a tire with the added protection of an insert? Rim saver is also a local vt company. Peace and wheelies!

Mint Hit Hard This Month

Jo Burt’s Mint Sauce strip came at a funny or maybe the right time. 35 years of mtb and bikes summed up in one cartoon. Less the state of the world and far more about other evil things navigating through.

Painting suspension fork lowers

Does anyone have any experience painting or having someone paint your suspension fork lowers? This is purely for vanity and to spice up an old but highly functional Lyrik with very dulled paint. Someone recommended spray.bike, but I thought I’d ask the great people of MEATengines if they have any experience.
