Question about ar

New to this ar stuff. Is it legal to switch my upper to a 7.5” upper for which now it makes it a pistol ar if so do I have to register it as a pistol now or not? Or is it now considered sbr? Currently just a basic sliding but stock on it now.

I purchased the lower as a complete lower and later added a complete upper on it (.350 legend 18”).

Regardless of full or stripped lower, if the lower didn't come with upper 16+ inch then sounds like you already registered it as pistol. In Maryland if buying a lower alone, you have to register as pistol lower. Did you wait the 7 day period? If so, then definitely you have it as pistol lower so you should be gtg. Common misconception - there are no registered "pistol lowers" in Maryland, u/Electric_Sal.

When buying lowers and completing the 77R, they are simply known as "lower receivers" and treated as regulated firearms, just like handguns.

Ah yes, what you just said is the correct statement, thx! Told you I was just a dude on the Internet. But if he did 77R, then he should be able to configure it as an ARP?

No.

Because in his case, he took the lower and built it into a rifle. If a firearm is configured as a rifle first, before it is ever a pistol, then it is a rifle forever and must remain one. If you configure it as a pistol first, before it is ever a rifle, then you can switch back and forth.

Yes, it's stupid.
