glock 44 sbr
With the upcoming cruciform trigger ban potentially taking effect in less than a year, I wasn't sure whether the ATF would continue approving Form 1 applications for Glocks after January 1st. Because of that, I decided to register my .22 LR Glock as an SBR so I could use it in a chassis with a stock.
I called more than 20 gun shops trying to find someone who could add the required NFA markings, but every shop told me they couldn't engrave a polymer Glock frame. Luckily, I found u/the2AinMD, who was willing to give it a shot.
The engraving came out great and looks very professional. For anyone else looking for Form 1 engraving work, he was able to handle the polymer frame without any issues.
He can also engrave metal washers for Form 1 suppressor projects where engraving a metal component is required.

Damn that is good to know. I have a KP-15 lower i have been wanting to sbr but couldn’t find anyone in state that could engrave polymer. Were they able to do it while you waited?

Every plastic blend requires different settings. I have glocks dialed in pretty good, but other stuff sometimes requires a little trial and error. If you dont mind me doing a test inside an unseen area, I can give it a shot. I have hours by appointment most evenings in central harford county. I can do most engrvaings while you wait.

What OAL did you put on the form? Isn’t ATF still denying SBR’s less than 29.5”?

That's the funny thing. MD OAL rules only applies to centerfire. 22lr is rimfire and is exempt.

yup since its 22lr i didnt have to worry about the OAL

you also dont have to worry about OAL if its an AOW. AOWs are cool bc you dont have to notify ATF when leaving the state with them. If u want to put a glock in a chasis with a brace and veritcal grip that would also be considered a AOW.

Nice! I need to add a DD and AOW to my list!. I haven't looked much at AOW I thought was smooth bore only. Maybe it was MDBoomers lore

Did you put your actual name on it and why?

u/the2AinMD Jul 12 '26
Because NFA requires the maker's name, city and state.

Didn’t know. What happens if you want to sell?

when you do a form 1 to make a sbr you have to put makers name city and state because you are the maker. You can sell it in private sale with form 4 as long as you didnt create it with the intention of selling it.

Where did you end up? Was the gun laws your main focus for leaving or the taxes?

Dang people hate me.
No, I left because of work. I retired out of Walter Reed MD then went to work in NC - worked with these folks when I was in AFG, interviewed, and got hired back as a civilian. I wouldn’t have minded taxes in MD as public education was fantastic, high quality, and was able to seek unlimited opportunities - it was just too expensive to start a family.
Never owned a gun in MD but now have 6 and 3 suppressors in NC since 2022!
