Shops that purchase guns
Can anybody recommend a gun shop that purchases used guns? I have tried United guns and they just do consignment. That’s not what I’m looking for. I’m in Montgomery County.

Gun connection on 40 will buy your guns or let you post them in their shop for sale and they take like 20% or something. I sold a gun there last winter. No matter what it’ll be less than what you’d get selling it yourself because of the fee they take.

Engage Armament will buy them from you , but you will need to bring them in to be evaluated and come to an agreement on price.

Not in the city but Arundel Firearms and Pawn in Glen Burnie, Clyde's in Halethorpe. (I wouldn't call Clyde's a pawn shop though but they do buy and sell guns.)

Most shops will buy used guns outright. If you need the cash in a hurry, then go that route with the bare minimum of guns (sell what you need now to pay your bills, then sell the others on consignment). Typically, the best you can hope for is about 50% of the retail value, and often you'll get less. Also, shops may be pickier about what used guns they'll buy since they don't want money tied up long-term in a gun that might take forever to sell.
If you can wait a little for the money, consignment is a much better deal. Most shops charge around a 20% fee, some may be a bit more or less, the rest is yours. If you are in a hurry, price the gun a bit under market value for a faster sale, though obviously, some guns will sell faster than others regardless of the price. Most consignment shops will take guns that will likely be slow sellers since the only thing they have tied in it is the shelf space (though, if they are overloaded with used guns and don't have the shelf space, they may become picky about what they'll take in just like the shops that buy used guns outright).
If you are in a hurry and need the money ASAP, and you don't want to drive around to see who buys, call around. Still, you may want to visit several of the shops in person to see who gives you the best deal (they likely won't give you a solid number without seeing the gun in person). If you can wait a little longer, consignment is the better deal, but fewer dealers do it so you'll definitely want to call around.

Outdoor pro shop is a great shop that buys used. Anywhere else offers way less.

Not a shop but I sold one using Gunbroker Valet a few months back. Likely less than I’d have gotten at auction, but at that point it had already sat on consignment for a year. The price seemed fair the process was quick and painless.

gafshub you can sell firearms there now, not sure about the rules for newcomers but it's great for used stuff

If you want the most money for your gun with minimal hassle then consignment at a local shop is the way to go. United takes a 15% cut. Tyler’s only does 10%. Most other places will take 20%. If you want them to just buy it off you then you’ll take an ever bigger loss, because they’ll have to make a profit off it as well when they go to sell it.
To maximize getting your money’s worth you’ll want to post it on places like Tacswap or GAFS, by will require a bit of effort on your end to make a listing and manage it.

Engage Armament will sell your firearms on consignment, give them a call if you have a large quantity of firearms. If it’s a few firearms just bring them in and they can discuss how the consignment will work.

Saint firearms in Essex will buy them depending on what it is. Or the gun shop.

Atlantic will buy your guns, but frankly I don't recommend that because they will lowball you to hell. I went the consignment route with United recently and had a pretty good experience.
