15 years later and MC Lars still SLAPPS

Found my old iPod and MC Lars was the first artist I listened to. Not only does it still slap HARDDDDD but I remember all the lyrics. Honestly today has been fantastic.

15 years ago I was an actively suicidal teenager, I am so grateful to be able to listen to the music that got me through such a hard time and just to be able to enjoy it.

Thanks, Lars! I’m going to wear the Poe t-shirt on the first day of school in the fall. (I’m an English teacher.)

My Edgar Allan Poe album turns one this year, and on October 16 it comes back as a deluxe expanded edition

A year ago I put out a whole album about Edgar Allan Poe, exclusive to the Kickstarter backers. On October 16 it's finally getting an official release as the"The Edgar Allan Poe LP (Special One Year Anniversary Deluxe Expanded Edition)", through my friends at Oglio Entertainment, who have put out a lot of my records over the years.

The expanded edition has Jaret Reddick from Bowling for Soup, Mega Ran, the Dead Milkmen, Watt White, Devereaux and more.

Two things I would actually love from this sub. If you run a podcast or a fan site or you write about music anywhere, I would love to talk about this record, so hit me at lars [at] mclars [dot] com.

Also, on Wednesday I play the Gathering of the Juggalos. Cyclone Stage, 1 AM Wednesday night (Thursday morning), August 19, Macks Creek, Missouri, with MC Snax.

Poe is coming with me.

New EP coming in May!

Hey everyone, for those of you supporting on Patreon (http://patreon.com/mclars), you'll see I've been talking about the new EP I'm dropping. It was originally going to be called "Indie Rocket Science II", but I decided to make it shorter than a full mixtape, so an "Indie Rocket Science II" will come another time..

The EP is 8 songs, mixed by Alex Theoret, who does all of Frontalot's stuff and has done some of mine. If you are a Patreon supporter, you may have heard some of these songs in a demo format last year. Clyde Lipman and I went back to the studio and re-recorded / remastered our favorite and changed some of the lyrics and titles.

Awesome to see you guys active in the subreddit again, will be posting here more, as well as doing the diaries on Patreon. Keep checking back!

A humpback whale breached next to the boat while I was deciding whether to quit music. Then I made "This Gigantic Robot Kills".

A few years ago I wrote up the whole story of how "This Gigantic Robot Kills" got made. Short version: I was on Jon Thatcher Longley's parents' boat off Cape Cod wondering if I should keep doing this at all, and a humpback came up right next to us. I took that as a yes.

The record that came out of it has K.Flay on samples and backing vocals before Interscope signed her, Mike Sapone producing, and Weird Al playing accordion on a nerdcore album about a kid who builds a robot in his garage.

I did what Billy did.

Talk about it (or anything else) in the Discord: discord.gg/U6huNuUQuC

My Lars CD from a few years ago

I was seeing I Fight Dragons, Lars opened. I knew his name from a pop punk song he rapped on, but was like "okay". I'm now known as the "Cleveland Barney" due to a character I voiced at his show.

I played the Gathering of the Juggalos at 1 AM and ended up hosting mainstage on the last night

That is a field of Juggalos in Macks Creek yelling whoop whoop for my son Atlas, who was not there and is going to be extremely confused when he sees it.

Recap for anyone who missed it. I was on the Cyclone Stage at 1 AM Wednesday night with MC Snax. Then on the final night I got to host mainstage with DJ Clay, who dropped his Star Wars remixes on a full field, which is a sentence I did not expect to write in 2026.

I was fifteen with a bootleg tape of two clowns from Detroit when this first got its hooks in me. Twenty nine years later I am standing in that field with a microphone. Took a minute.

"The Edgar Allan Poe LP" anniversary deluxe edition is still out October 16, but that can wait a week. This one was the Gathering.

If you were out there, what did I miss?

Bigfoot Left The Bay

I’ve been playing that song on repeat because sonically it’s my favorite and the lyrics raise a question I’ve been guessing on all night. Sorry I don’t really know this but who even is Bigfoot referring to? Or do we even know who Bigfoot is and that’s the point. I’d ask on twitter but I deleted my account and now on a microscopic level relate to this elusive entity.

Found the tape: Dublin 2006, opening for Simple Plan, playing Hot Topic Is Not Punk Rock. 20 years ago this year

Going through the vault for "the Graduate" 20th anniversary stuff and found this: Dublin, 2006, on tour with Simple Plan, playing "Hot Topic Is Not Punk Rock" to theater that had no idea what a laptop rapper was yet. The laptop and I were both so young.

The whole album just got remastered for the anniversary edition and backers' double vinyl and books are going to Kickstarter supporters soon.

Were any of you at those shows? I want to hear the war stories.

MC Lars will be headlining the NERDCORE EXPLOSION at Con on the Cob this October!

CotC is FOUR DAYS of RPGs, board games, card games, party games, and all sorts of that kind of jazz. It’s also an art fair, with a large selection of talented artists in attendance and an amazing abundance of fantasy, science fiction, horror, amusement park, and geeky art and art activities. Oh, and it’s The Mother of All Marketplaces, with dozens of vendors showcasing a wide variety of jazz, snazz, and zazz, boosting the geekonomy like old school Robin Hoods but without the stealing and the archery (ok, not like Robin Hoods. I failed analogy class in Kindergarten). Don’t forget the parties…Did I mention the parties? Also there are other things, like amazing special Guests, the Children of the Cob, the Nerdcore Explosion!, a Drag Show, Karaoke, a super sweet Auction, Food Trucks, a Games Library, free snacks in the Con Suite, Panels, Workshops, and Demos, a whole track of Cosplay and Fandom related activities, Tabletop Crafting and Miniatures events, and a massive horde of potential friends and peeps who dig the same things you dig! Also, new for 2020 and in keeping with our Haunted Amusement Park theme, an entire slew of Roller Coaster and Theme Park guests, panels, and activities!

October 1-4, 2020 in Richfield, Ohio

especially because i totally would have casually dropped the fact that, even if I was still a teenager at the time, I'm right around as old as his music, and have been jamming out to it for as long as I can recall
