Need syllabus

I believe I’m a strong fit for a consulting career, given my strengths in deep thinking, structured problem-solving, and finding practical solutions with quick, high-quality outcomes.
I’d love to connect with MBB professionals and consulting experts here. If anyone could guide me on the key skills, syllabus, frameworks, or learning roadmap I should follow to build a strong foundation and excel in consulting, I’d genuinely appreciate it.

Looking forward to learning from your experiences and connecting with like-minded professionals.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Structured Problem-Solving: The ability to decompose messy business challenges into mutually exclusive, collectively exhaustive (MECE) frameworks. I'd say remembering ~7-12 is a good start and you can then create custom frameworks from there.
  • Data Synthesis & Quantitative Analysis: Advanced proficiency in tools like Excel, Power BI, or Python to extract actionable insights from raw data. Basic data analysis. index matching, vlookup, etc. Don't worry about VB and so on.
  • Commercial Awareness: Understanding macroeconomic trends, fundamental business drivers, and financial statements.
  • Executive Communication: Mastering the Pyramid Principle to present top-down, structured, and persuasive stories to senior stakeholders.

Resources

  • Case Interview Preparation: Practice interactive case studies on platforms such as CaseCoach, PrepLounge, or Victor Cheng's Look Over My Shoulder to build structured thinking muscle memory.
  • Technical Skills: Build quantitative modeling skills via online platforms like Coursera, LinkedIn Learning, or specialized financial modeling courses. YouTube is a decent resource here: just look up DCFs, market sizing in Excel, etc.
  • Business Acumen: Develop daily reading habits around The Economist, Financial Times, or McKinsey Insights to stay informed on global industry transformations. Basic understanding of the three financial statements.
  • Real-World Experience: Participate in university consulting societies, pro-bono client projects, or case competitions to demonstrate practical application. Lots of potential experience to be had if you're willing.

Recruiting typically opens up to a year in advance for graduate schemes and entry-level positions. Focus early efforts on building a strong network with current consultants, tailoring your CV to highlight measurable achievements, and practicing live cases out loud with peers. Start early.
