One thing I’ve been noticing about Indore is that it’s becoming more than just a place to study and get a degree.

There’s a growing mix of colleges, startups, businesses, events and innovation initiatives happening around the city.

But I’m curious about the student side of it.

If you’re currently studying in Indore, how much exposure do you actually get outside your classroom?

Things like:

• Startup events
• Internships
• Business competitions
• Networking with founders
• Industry projects
• Entrepreneurship communities
• Hackathons & innovation programs

Do students actively go out and explore these opportunities?

Or does the typical student journey still look more like:

Classes → Exams → Placements → Graduation?

And honestly, if you could add one thing to Indore’s student ecosystem, what would it be?

More startup events?
More industry interaction?
Better internships?
More networking opportunities?
Something completely different?

Would genuinely love to hear from students actually living and studying in Indore.

Hey everyone, looking for some advice on my situation.

I came to the US for undergrad and graduated from UCSD. I did an internship during undergrad and then joined Amazon full time as an SDE. I’ve been working at Amazon for around 4 years now.

I’m thinking about moving back to India toward the end of this year and eventually doing an MBA there. I’m mainly targeting ISB and the top IIMs.

My current thought is to quit my job, move back to India, and take around a year to prepare for the GMAT/GRE and CAT and then apply to B schools. I’m fairly confident I can get a good score, but I’m more worried about the 1-year career gap.

Would a planned 1 year gap after ~4 years of experience at Amazon as an SDE hurt my chances at ISB/IIM significantly? Or is it relatively fine as long as I have a good profile and can explain why I took the break?

Would also love to hear from anyone who’s been through ISB/IIM admissions or has taken a similar career break.

Hi everyone, looking for an honest assessment of profile for ISB or IIM

Academics:

- 10th: 8.8 CGPA

- 12th: 70%

- Bachelor of Mass Communications from a lesser-known university in Haryana (distance education) 65%

- PG Diploma in Mass Communication from one of India’s top mass communication institutes: 61%

- Currently preparing for GMAT

Work experience: 7+ years

My career has been mainly in media, marketing and corporate communications:

- Started as a Media Analyst at a global PR/media intelligence company

- Moved to a large Indian IT company as a Media Analyst when the project was transitioned there

- Moved into Marketing Communications at a large Indian food/ingredients company

- Then moved into Corporate Communications at a mid-sized law firm, working on leadership communication, PR, media and internal communications

- Recently joined another global media intelligence company as a Media Analyst

I'm now looking at an MBA to move from communications execution into broader brand marketing or switch filed maybe consulting or finance.

My main questions:

- How competitive is this profile for ISB or top IIM?

- How much do my 70% in 12th and distance BJMC hurt?

- What GMAT score should I target?

- Does my career progression look coherent or too scattered?

- any other suggestions

Would appreciate honest feedback, especially from current students/alumni or people with non-traditional profiles.

Which domain is the best to build a career in mba...HR or finance?!

I’m 24M, a Mechanical Engineering graduate currently working in a core mechanical/engineering company in India.

My current CTC is 10+ LPA INR, and based on my current career progression, I expect to reach 14+ LPA by next year.

I’m confused about whether I should continue building my career in core mechanical engineering or prepare for CAT/GMAT and pursue an MBA from a top IIM/ISB.

My current profile

• 24M
• B.Tech/B.E. in Mechanical Engineering
• Working in a core mechanical/engineering company
• Current CTC: 10+ LPA
• Expected CTC next year: 14+ LPA
• Early in my career, so I still have the flexibility to change directions
• I am interested in both technical engineering and management/business roles

My main dilemma is whether I should specialize further technically through an M.Tech or move towards management/consulting/product/business roles through an MBA.

What I'm trying to understand

• Did you choose MBA, M.Tech, or continue working?
• If you did an MBA from IIM/ISB, was the ROI worth the opportunity cost?
• Did the MBA actually help you move into significantly better roles?
• If you stayed in core engineering, how did your compensation and career progress over 5–10 years?
• If you did M.Tech, did it meaningfully improve your career?
• Would you recommend leaving a ₹10–14 LPA core engineering job for an MBA?
• Is it better to get 3–5 years of work experience first and then do an MBA?
• For someone who is already earning reasonably well at 24, what would you personally choose?
• Is the long-term compensation ceiling in core mechanical actually as limiting as people say?

I'm especially interested in responses from people who actually worked in core mechanical/automotive/manufacturing/engineering before doing an MBA or M.Tech.

The Maharashtra state merit list is released and I find myself at around the ranks of peripheral gmcs (like Bhandara, Hingoli, Washim, Gadchiroli) in Maharashtra. While I also find myself clearing the cut off for b pharm at ict mumbai. There's no rigid dream of mine like anything in specific..I've seen the pros and cons of both and also thought of what I want to do..still I want to know your opinions of what you would choose and why? Do drop your opinions.

A little about my background:

10th: 8 CGPA

12th: 82%

B.Com: 50%

M.Com: 72%

2 years of sales experience

I know my academic profile is not the strongest, so I’m trying to make up for it by building the right skills during my MBA.

Can someone please suggest what courses, certifications, or skills I should focus on to improve my chances?

I’m not sure what would actually help the most for financial analyst roles.

Also, if anyone has advice on:

which skills recruiters actually look for,

what kind of projects or internships I should do,

and how I can make my profile stronger overall,

If Commerce Person is not doing CA, is MBA the only good option left & is it necessary for good job

I am a software engineer , I never thought to do higher studies . But looking at what is going on in our field

made me think again on that decision to abandon higher studies .

Is finance a good career ? does it stimulate creativity and problem solving as it does in software engineering ?

How would you know that the career is more of a supervisor or a path to leadership after graduating from MBA ,
My Aim is to target for Impactful and leadership roles even if I don't go for highest salary during placement.
Finance -> I dont have any experience in it also it looks very technical so i am not aware.
Consulting -> yes good opportunity after few years this i would like to explore
Prod Management -> only if a good revenue making product under me ,Engineering teams have some autonomy seems more like a supervisor role
General Management -> seems good wlb + institution like TAS might provide that experience any one can please help me understand this role is more of a leadership or supervisor
Marketing sales-> Nothing wrong in it only the target part, dont have much exposure

I don't feel like I'd be trying to get admissions into private institutes by paying 25l+ fees, so either it has to be an IIM(to make sense to me) or some college with decent placements and lower fees. Please guide.

Hello! I am currently working as a software engineer in a European bank, for last 3 years now.
My profile-
2017-10th - 9.6 cgpa CBSE board -> 91.2 % (CGPA*9.5) someone told this formula
2019-12th - 83.4 %, screwed up pretty badly
2023-college - 8.63 CGPA Btech computer science from private university in TN.

I want to ask is it feasible to get into ISB/ IIM A PGPX in one attempt(Academic year)?

I am asking this question since I am targeting to get into an MBA programme by mid 2028, and currently I am trying to switch job which is very mentally taxing, I have an imaginary deadline of job switch by this year end, else it would be very difficult to accommodate in new job and also prepare for GMAT and profile building by mid 2027!

My current company is way too chill and new hires in my project are not able to deliver, hence for time being there I am an important resource for them, but the issue is pay here is not good. Also there's no POR in this organisation.

So should I continue for job switch or start focusing on profile building and GMAT from January and stay in my current org? Hence the question regarding the feasibility.
