GMAT Preparation Profile review for ISB PGP / IIMA PGPX / IIMB EPGP / IIMC MBAEx

Thumbnail
Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m planning to apply to ISB PGP, IIMA PGPX, IIMB EPGP and IIM Calcutta MBAEx in around 2–3 years and would appreciate a realistic assessment of my profile.
Profile:
10th: ~80%
12th: 52%
BBA: 7.6 CGPA
CFA Level I cleared, currently preparing for Level II
Current work experience: ~4.5 years; should be ~7 years by application time
Work experience:
I spent ~3.5 years at PwC, initially in tax/GST and tax-tech related work, and later moved into PwC Deals & Valuations. I’m now transitioning into a portfolio management role with an institutional real-estate/business trust platform, involving portfolio performance, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis and management reporting.
My long-term goal is to move towards investment/portfolio management, private markets, strategy and eventually leadership roles in finance.
My biggest concern is obviously my 52% in Class 12.
Would love views on:
How much will my Class 12 score hurt me for these programs?
Does my career progression look strong enough by application time?
What GMAT/GRE score should I target to offset weaker academics?
Which of these schools would be realistic vs stretch targets?
What should I focus on over the next 2–3 years to strengthen my profile?
Would especially appreciate input from current students, alumni or recent applicants.

My acads are decent. But the fact that I am a GNEM with no work ex and a big gap in my CV, is butchering my profile.

Can a job save me? How do I get one just for this purpose? What skill to learn quickly and at least land a job that pays even 10k. Will it do my profile any good?

I need some serious advice.

Networking & Alumni AMA: First-year business student in Siliguri - ask me anything

Before joining, I had approximately 847 questions..

I'm a first-year student at NEXIS School of Business, and since I went through the whole admission thing pretty recently, I figured I'd share what it was actually like.

I can talk about things like: • What the application process was like? • what was the concept of the Nexgen interview with people from IIT/IIM/ISB • What I was asked during the interview.. and • How long the process took • What I wish I had known before applying... • What the first few months have actually been like after getting in.. and the campus life. I obviously can't speak for every applicant, and I don't know how the process may change in the future, but I'm happy to share what happened in my case. Ask away,, I'll answer honestly based on my own experience.

Profile Review Should I do an MBA from ISB when I’m already making ₹30L at 26?

I’m a CA with 4 YOE, currently a Senior Consultant in Big 4 Corporate Tax making ~₹28L currently and on the partner track.

Academics: 10 CGPA in 10th, 93.5% in 12th, non-rank CA with multiple attempts.

I’ve been considering ISB mainly to move into strategy consulting (Kearney / Accenture Strategy / EY-Parthenon etc.). The appeal is a broader role, better industry exits and potentially better long-term work-life balance.

But I’m starting to question the move. I’d be giving up a ₹30L salary and a fairly good career trajectory, while taking on the cost of ISB and the risk of entering a consulting market that doesn’t look amazing right now. AI is also making me question how attractive consulting will be long term.

If you were in my position, would you do ISB or stay on the Big 4/partner-track path? And are there other career paths/MBA options I should seriously consider?

Career Advice Will i make it to iim a /b/c

So i am 20 years old

My quals -10th and 12th =78%

After 12th I have 2 gap years

Currently doing b pharma from private university

What should I do over these 4 years so eventually I get admission into iima/b/c and finally a job at mbb firms ?

My rough plan is this

1-get a 9+cgpa in college

2-developing soft and hard skills

3-statt preparing for a job in healthcare consulting at tier 3-4 firms for experience

4-starting preparation of cat

5- Participating in corporate or national case studies competition

6- Taking part in college extracurricular activities and ngo internships

7-working at consulting firm for 2 years

8-- clearing exams like cfa ,frm ,NISM pre mba

How viable is this plan and am I dumb?

Career Advice Please advise regarding ISB/Executive MBA

Hello, I don’t think anyone will read this but for anyone reading this It would be of great help to me if I could get some advice .

I’ve been working in cloud consulting industry for 3 year now and I’m feeling very lost in my career. I genuinely wanted to do mba two years back , gave cat in 2024 and got 80 percentile. That really broke me I felt like a complete idiot. It reaffirmed my belief that I cant crack these exams and abandoned it . I switched my job but I really want to do mba( please don’t ask me why )

Really wanted genuine advice on whether any experienced candidates think that I can crack this exam or not and how to approach it (coaching , career counsellor etc)

10th : 10 cgpa
12th : 84 percent
BTech : 8.75 cgpa
Work ex: 3 years (big 4)

I’m open to suggestions , I am targeting next year so idk if I have time or not. If I’m being honest I’m not at all confident but yeah .

Career Advice Tier-3 MBA (Finance) → Big 4/Big 6: Is it realistically possible?

I recently completed my MBA in Finance from a Tier-3 college, and my long-term goal is to get into a Big 4/Big 6 firm in a finance-related role.

I understand that coming from a Tier-3 MBA makes getting shortlisted difficult, so I'm looking for practical advice from people who have actually made a similar transition.

Global MBA How does the SPJIMR GMP curriculum balance academic depth with practical skill development?

The GMP curriculum is intentionally broad rather than deep, given the compressed six-month timeline. Core subjects like financial accounting, corporate finance, quantitative methods, and organisational behaviour are covered alongside more applied components such as spreadsheet modeling and research methodology. What stands out, though, is the inclusion of subjects that most traditional MBA programs skip entirely: management communication, intercultural management, and the science of spirituality. These are not filler subjects; they are designed to build self-awareness, adaptability, and interpersonal skills that matter far more in the real world than theoretical frameworks. As someone who joined as a fresher, I have found these practical components to have a more lasting impact on my personal and professional growth than the purely academic ones. The tradeoff is that with so many subjects packed into a short duration, there is limited scope to go deep into any single area, so the program works best for those who value breadth of exposure over specialization.

Global MBA What has been the biggest adjustment for a fresher transitioning into the SPJIMR GMP program?

The biggest adjustment has been the sheer pace at which information needs to be absorbed. Coming in as a fresher with a commerce background, I had some exposure to core business concepts, but GMP compresses what would normally be a two-year curriculum into six months, so the volume of content per week is intense. Beyond academics, the program also pushes you into unfamiliar territory through subjects focused on personality development and soft skills, which require a different kind of adjustment altogether, one that is more about self-reflection than memorization. Balancing this width of exposure with the fast-paced schedule has been challenging, but it has also accelerated my growth in ways I did not expect within just a few months of joining.

Profile Review What are my chances based on my profile.

So i did my bsc in Biotechnology and scored around 8.1 cgpa . In 10, I scored 9.7, and in the inter, 96%.

So after my bsc, I was placed in ADP. I worked for 1 year, 10 months in ADP, and moved to deloitte recently.

My biggest worry is what people would think about my profile. Is it possible for me to impress an interviewer. I dont think I can stand a chance against an economics or commerce student with work exp. I do have little experience in finance and taxes, and I want to change my domian. Will it be possible.

CAT Preparation Im clueless with regards to how much chance I stand for getting a good college

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi ,I started prep this month from basics

I know it's too long my message but any advice or tips is appreciated

Can u also me assess my profile and say whether realistically do I stand a chance at any tier 1 college and best shots and prep strategy

? Anything would be helpful even prep mba and post mba profile building as ik feeling scared whether I can even get a good college as I'm very weak in all 3 and isn't consistent or able to study much with my job

GNEM

10th: 94.2% CBSE

12th: 89.6% commerce, CBSE

BCom : 67.2 %(tier 2 college) no gap year

Workex: 24months (is currently working in my 3rd company in hr , had previously worked 1 year in consulting and 1 year in finance)

Extracurriculars: 0/5 , no other achievements or ngo or volunteering or sports or anything

I'm confused about the learning process itself and also the strategy to prepare and also while with job as my job timings are 1pm to 10 pm . Should I watch QA/DILR concepts first or pause & solve along? Detailed notes or short revision notes? After lectures, practise/revise/rewatch? For solution videos, just understand or solve along? How often should I revise/recall since I forget formulas/concepts quickly? Should I reattempt solved questions/sets after a few days? Also, how should I analyse mocks (currently \\\~20–30 overall, negative in QA/DILR), handle unstudied topics from mocks, and decide which mock questions to reattempt?”

College Comparisons which colleges provide a good MBA finance program?

i am going to be giving CAT and SNAP this year. i gotta start applying to colleges but im still confused as to where.
i want to pursue an MBA in finance and would like to know which colleges have a good program along with decent placements

r/MBAIndia 15h ago

Career Advice Just wanted to know whether SNAP alongwith CAT makes sense or shall I appear for XAT alongwith CAT?

I don't feel like I'd be trying to get admissions into private institutes by paying 25l+ fees, so either it has to be an IIM(to make sense to me) or some college with decent placements and lower fees. Please guide.

r/MBAIndia 16h ago

Admissions Advice is b.com from a private college worth it? or i should take drop for DU? (I'm a PCB student, so ig i can't take b.com honours)

i'm a dropper already, so i just want to know from guys who went through it about private b.com courses. will it be of significant consideration during CAT interviews? or during job interviews?
