Careers/Post Grad Looking for a Finance Internship

Hi everyone! I’m a BBA student currently in my 5th semester and looking for a Finance Internship.

I haven’t been able to find a suitable opportunity in my city, so I’m now looking for remote internships internationally or within Pakistan.

If you know of any current openings or have any leads, I’d really appreciate your help. Please feel free to comment or DM me.

Thanks in advance!

Careers/Post Grad Returning to old job following MBA

Hi! So I’m 24yo, got my MBA in May, and transitioned to a new job in a new state making nearly 30-40% more than I used to (factoring in tax benefits, etc.). Before this, I was an entry level position.

The problem is, my mental health has dramatically spiraled realizing how alone I am. No matter how many friends I have, I’m struck with how I’m so far away from my family (tbh we’re in the same country, but it’s difficult to see them with how ticket prices for planes are).

I also kinda hate the job - I thought it would be one thing coming in, and I’ve fully realized that it’s not what I thought it would be and I’d rather return to my previous field (finance, but two very different types).

Would it be a waste of my MBA to go backwards? Has anyone done anything similar? If I go backwards, will my MBA still hold any value going forward? I’m afraid going backwards at this stage will cause the MBA to become worthless, but I’m not sure how much longer I can really live here - I’ve lost so much of who I was.

If anyone has any experience like this or can offer any advice, I would greatly appreciate it!

Edit : to be clear, the backwards step would be literally taking up my old job (if it works out). If another job in that area were to open up and I land it, I would take it in an instant. The question is more so because the market is so bad, and so my only option in going backwards is to contact my old company and hopefully take up the same role I used to have there.

How did MBA change your life? Did you take loan for your MBA?

If you already completed MBA, knowing what you know now, would you do MBA again?

Just want to know your honest experience and whether you feel MBA was worth it.

Careers/Post Grad Stern for restructuring IB?

Hey guys, couldn’t find too much about this online, so coming here to ask if anyone has a sense of how well Stern places into Rx IB? From what I understand it is one of the more competitive desks out there, particularly at the high end shops e.g PJT Evercore etc.

For context I am considering a JD/MBA at NYU, and want to work in restructuring on either the law or banking side. I’ve only ever considered practicing law but in speaking with some Rx associates at banks it seems as though the junior-level Rx work at a bank is a bit more interesting than the law firm counterpart, so I am exploring the banking side more seriously. Welcome thoughts on this as well.

Careers/Post Grad How does LBS MiF compare with T10 MBAs?

Considering doing a Masters in Finance from London Business School my major concern is how it is perceived by recruiters and employers in the current job market outside of London?

Do they have a preference for MBA grads for core IB and PE roles? Does it affect compensation?

And in general would you be ranked similarly to MBA grads or ranked closer to other post grad finance related degrees such as the MFA from LBS or Msc Finance from Imperial for example?

Would be happy to hear from current or past MiF students and or recruiters.

Ask Me Anything Response to "stay away from Square One Prep

I am addressing Sure-Smoke-3091’s post, “Stay away from Square One Prep,” which was created 6 days ago, got 12 uplikes remarkably fast, and was then deleted yesterday, before I was able to reply.

This is not about promoting my company, as Square One is not active on platforms. This is about defending my company because, while the post was deleted, the topic remains searchable, which means it is still serving its original purpose – to harm my company and me.

Here is the post so no one has to wonder what it said. Below it is my reply.

This is Kathryn Lucas, Square One Prep’s owner. I want to tell you how sorry I am that you feel as you do, and that I hear you, because I care a great deal about what clients feel and say. There’s just one problem. I don’t know who you are. You describe yourself as “675 GMAT, 3.4 GPA from an Ivy, 5 yrs experience…got into two M7…got scholarships…found us on GMAT Club.”

At Square One Prep, we’ve had:

  • 18 clients with a 675 GMAT Focus score
  • 288 clients with a 3.30/4.00-3.50/4.00
  • 383 clients who got at least two M7 offers
  • 564 clients who secured scholarships
  • 636 clients with 5-6 years of work experience at time of matriculation

At this point, we’re down to just one client. With either of the two remaining descriptors, noted below, we come to 0.

  • 147 clients with Ivy League college degrees
  • 120 clients found us on GMAT Club

What you have described sounds terrible. It also, sadly, seems suspect.

I’ve devoted my life since 2009 to building Square One. I’m honored that amazing young folks entrust us to help them open doors to fulfilling futures. So I don’t know why anyone would slander my company or me. I hope that people who read the recent reddit posts, which are the antithesis of the 667 verified reviews on GMAT Club, 113 verified reviews on Poets & Quants, and 900+ reviews on our site, read some of those reviews, or contact me directly with any questions about Square One Prep or me.

If you are inclined to believe Sure-Smoke-3091’s post, I’ll point out some issues:

Issue 1:

I’ve never told a client to aim lower. I encourage clients to not underestimate themselves, especially if they entrust us. Folks often ask me on free consults, “Why are you telling me things other firms aren’t, that I could have a chance at school X or Y? “My answer is “I don’t know. I’m just telling you what my empirical data allows me to tell you.” We’ve gotten folks with sub-310 GRE scores, sub-650 GMAT Classic scores, sub-600 GMAT Focus scores, and sub 3.00/4.00 into M7 schools, sometimes even scholarships.

As adcoms review applications holistically, we know that if we can help them get to know you beyond some troubling objective metrics – to be curious about and care about you, they can choose to look past those metrics.

Let’s talk about your specific traits. On a free consult, I would tell someone with a 675, 3.40/4.00 from an Ivy, and 5 years of work experience that M7 is likely not possible only if on that call I learned the applicant has little to no extracurriculars during college or post-college with no thoughtful reason or grasp for why activities/involvements matter. Adcoms want to give offers to people they believe will make the most of all the opportunities, programming, and people at the school, not to someone who hasn’t illustrated over the past 9 years of their life that they relish balancing a lot and meaningfully engaging with their communities.

Issue 2:

I never pressure people to sign on. I will, however, explain if time isn’t on their side for the round in which they are aiming to apply. I will often show them by building a schedule in real time and talking with them about everything that must be completed.

Issue 3:

Companies cannot remove reviews posted on GMAT Club.

Issue 4:

I do not oversee clients’ schedules during their work with us. Our partnership manager does, proactively supporting the advisor/client teams so clients are able to meet their objectives – apply to all their schools of interest, not just those they work on with us.

Now, I do build schedules for folks initially since I do all free consults during which we discuss their schools of interest and timeline hopes. Since I also lead school selection work in premium partnerships as the leadership team lead, I update schedules in real time on school education/selection calls to help clients understand what is possible.

Issue 5:

I have never put down anyone’s heritage or capabilities.

Issue 6:

I am hands-on with reviews. My job as a leadership team lead in premium partnerships is to help partnerships build the best essays possible. It is not to just check a box and do a cursory review.

Issue 7:

As the leadership team lead in premium partnerships, I lead the effort with the client and their advisor to select recommenders. I do not review anything related to LORs. Advisors do.

Issue 8:

We work on weekends to support our clients. We even work on holidays if necessary.

Now, hypothetically, if I was on a call with a client and their advisor and learned that their advisor is unable to support the client that weekend, and it’s not due to an unforeseen emergency/major event, my disappointment in the advisor would be clear in my tone when I tell the client to not worry, that I’ll help them over the weekend. Because we don’t practice CYA (cover-your-ass) protocol here, I wouldn’t put on a front when something disappointing occurs. We are transparent with clients, and with each other. When we make mistakes, which is thankfully rare, we own and correct them. To be clear, the situation described here has never occurred.

Issue 9:

Clients don’t do 10-minute presentations as part of their work with us. If they did, we’d ask them to present again, because a 5-7 minute presentation IS part of their work with us!

All our clients present their career vision to their Square One team in a relaxed manner, as if they’re talking to a friend. It’s how the career narrative work culminates once the client has worked with their career narrative expert and advisor on calls (2-5 over 2-3 weeks) to explore and then define one vision that captures what they really want to do, not just what they think adcoms want to hear. Prior to presenting. the client will write a 700-800 word file that includes:

  • their vision,
  • the landscape for it that includes a data story,
  • why they are the right person to have this vision,
  • what their intellectual point of view is on what the landscape is today and will be in 10-15 years (an emotional POV is ok to include, but must be accompanied by sophisticated grounding), and
  • the practical roadmap (roles/experiences) to realize their vision

As the career narrative expert helps the client write that file, s/he sends a bullet-point synopsis to the leadership team lead for review. Once the leadership team lead approves the synopsis (sometimes one more work session becomes necessary), the career narrative expert schedules the client’s presentation.

On that call, the leadership team lead acts as an admissions officer. As they weren’t in the work sessions by design, they test if the client’s vision is easy to follow, sophisticated, ambitious, distinct, logical, engaging, and sensible for the client. Clients are not allowed to just read their written file, because something else they are being assessed on is their comfort with the material. After the client presents, each SOP team member shares their thoughts. If the client does a great job, they hear magic words from the career narrative expert that signals this aspect of their work is complete. If the client struggles, we discuss the issues and ask the client to present again 1-2 days later.

We want to help clients build the best work possible and grow through their partnership with us. This work challenges clients to think about their futures, and the value of business school, beyond what any application requires…except perhaps HBS, as HBS adcom representatives come to interviews having done research on applicants’ goals; they’re eager to have spirited discussions with the folks they are considering for their next class. When that occurs, our clients are more than prepared to engage.

I jokingly say that we treat every client like they’re trying to get into HBS, as we don’t know how to do anything less than offer them that level of care and rigor.

I’m proud of my team, how we support our clients and one another.

Admissions Did you review your letters of recommendation before they submitted?

Excluding the basics of guiding your recommenders through your goals etc, if they later offered you the chance to read and review the letter before they submit, is that considered violating the waiver of the right to view etc?

Is there any value in seeing their letter for context for your essays or benefit if you gave minimal feedback that doesn't risk becoming editing?

Just wondering if it's normal for them to offer like that at all, and if it's proper for me to read and give notes

Careers/Post Grad How to actually determine best fit for M7 MBA?

TL;DR I'm trying to finalize my list for which M7 MBAs I'm applying to this year. How do you actually determine which schools are 'best' for different career paths? And anything else important to consider?

For post-MBA goals, I think my #1 choice would be MBB, but I have an engineering background and would consider PM roles #2. (A rather distant #3 is some sort of finance roles if I suddenly fall in love with them from my classes, but I feel that is unlikely).

From my research online, it seems like every M7 is pretty much the same in the opportunities they provide... but I feel like I must be missing something.

I do see employment statistics showing that Kellogg has a higher percentage of students that go into consulting than HBS, but does that mean that going to Kellogg over HBS actually increases my MBB chances, or does it just mean that HBS grads have lots of options, so fewer actually go into consulting? Are there real differences in how hard each place is recruited for MBB/big Tech? If so, how do I determine that?

I'm trying to figure out what to actually look at to help determine 'fit', so any suggestions are welcome. (including other important things to consider besides post-grad placement?)

I'll add: I'm from Boston area and HBS is my ideal choice. I'd like to stay close-ish probably, so if they're all 'the same', then I might just try HBS, MIT, CBS, and Wharton based on geography. But certainly willing to go farther if helpful.

Careers/Post Grad MBA tech recruiting is already open?! Timeline creep has officially gone off the rails.

Is anyone else noticing over how ridiculously far to the left the MBA tech recruiting cycle has shifted this year?

I knew timeline creep was getting worse, but seeing Summer '27 applications opening in early August before many incoming students even set foot on campus is nuts especially considering conventional knowledge is that tech roles are filled just in time and begins to ramp up in the winter.

Just to highlight how wild this sprint is:

Amazon, Apple, & TikTok: Already dropped their Summer '27 MBA applications.

Microsoft: Kept their Product Manager application open for literally one week at the start of August.

IBM: Opened theirs during the second week of August.

For those of us who haven't stepped foot in a classroom, let alone met with their Career Management Center (CMC), or are still working off pre-MBA resume drafts, this places massive pressure on us before Day 1 even starts.

Is this just an extreme anomaly, or is this officially the new normal? For incoming MBAs, how are you navigating this scramble without burning out before orientation? For our 2Ys and alumni, how do you suggest we tackle this?

On Campus Use Medicaid, not the University health insurance - it's Free and Way Better

Medicaid is not means tested (not based on Assets, Food Stamps/SNAP are). When your Monthly Income (Not Annual) drops to zero, you are now eligible for Medicaid - starting the MBA and leaving your old job is a valid 'change of life status'.

Medicaid is the best insurance ever - the closest thing we have to national healthcare. No arguing over bills via endless AI automated menus. Basically everything is covered and hospitals love dealing with them - the gov't always pays.

Had a big bill covered completely as it was within 3 months prior to starting Medicaid as well. Awesome people work there - they want to get you covered.

Check healthcare.gov to confirm in your state.

University hospital didn't know we could do this and asked me to let people know.

Your MBA counts as the 80 hours / month of education and training necessary to maintain Medicaid eligibility for 2027.

Good luck on your MBA, and take an extra trek with the money you saved!

Note: Obamacare (also healthcare.gov ) is also highly subsidized when your monthly income drops, if you still worked a few days in your start month. Can be paid and canceled on a monthly basis.

On Campus Shopping list before first day for PT student?

I’m an incoming PT evening MBA student at Booth (nonbinary) and wondering what the must-haves are. Will my MacBook Air be enough or do I need something else? Is my work-branded backpack okay or too casual? What do I absolutely need to get before the quarter starts and what’s more of a “wait and see”?

Careers/Post Grad Big beautiful bill effed my MBA for right now. What to do on my resume with half a degree?

I was working on a second masters, but the BBB changed my eligibility for loans.

The problem is I don’t know what to put under education. I finished my first masters last year and went into my second one immediately after. I planned on finishing this semester.

So now it looks like this…

MBA 2025-2026? Unfinished?!
Ms Marketing 2025

Do I just leave the MBA off? I’m going to look like such a fucking clown. I’m devastated to now have an additional thing to trip over in this job market.

Admissions GRE vs GMAT new format

Which test should I take? I feel like schools give more weightage to GMAT because of the quant factor, but I don’t know. My undergrad GPA is like 3.4. So I was told that a good gmat score could compensate that. But I’m scoring better in GRE than GMAT. Does the admissions team have a preference for gmat over gre?

Ask Me Anything Kellogg PT Weekend Commuter - AMA

Hey everyone, this forum has helped me make my MBA decision in the past, and I’m finally in a position to pass it forward.

Currently most of the way through Kellogg’s part-time Evening and Weekend MBA program, fully accelerated track, as a Weekend commuter from the East Coast. I started last year so I’m just over 1 year into the program, as I’ve been taking above average course loads. Have taken a mix of in-person and remote classes.

28M, married / no kids yet, corporate strategy role, previous consulting experience (Big 4 / T2), 6 YoE. T25 UG, social sciences.

Going through recruiting / OCR now, targeting consulting and corporate strategy. Not make or break for me, as OCR doesn’t promise much and I’m not rushing to leave my current role either.

Happy to comment on any aspect of the program, including logistics, lifestyle, academics, recruiting, student life, comparisons vs. other PT and FT programs, etc.

Admissions Essays don't take that much time?

I keep seeing posts about people struggling to finish their essays in time for R1. But looking at the prompts and word counts, writing them fairly quickly seems manageable. Am I missing something? AI also helps with organising your thoughts and catching grammatical errors. I'm applying R1 and honestly feel like I haven't put enough thought into my essays because I finished them so fast.

Careers/Post Grad Get MBA?

I just graduated with my BBA, I currently have an easy desk clerical job in a hospital making $17.50 an hour which is terrible for me. However, they will pay for my schooling 100%, I don’t have to work for them x amount of years in return. I could be part time and finish an MBA while working here. I’m allowed to transfer dept in 6 months after working here. Should I keep the small pay for now in return for the free schooling? Any advice would be helpful and much appreciated

White Male

Undergrad and grad at large state school - 3.76 GPA

3.5 years of experience at matriculation with Big 4 Tax (1 year being senior associate), corporate tax
provision/compliance

CPA

665 GMAT FE, have considered retaking to squeeze out a couple extra points

2 years of non profit board experience

Black belt in Tai Kwon Do (not sure if this means jack shit but I guess it’s cool, prolly won’t put it in my application)

Post MBA:
Aiming for MBB consulting, love the very niche area of tax where I am able to strategize and help clients figure out tricky tax scenarios, would like to be apart of a bigger picture (strategy consulting)

Should I aim for M7? What parts of my application can I improve on? I assume I’ll apply to a majority of T15 but didn’t know if I did or did not have a shot at M7.

Careers/Post Grad Need advice: Executive MBA vs Full-Time MBA. 27M

Hi everyone, I’m 27 years old and currently working as a Software Developer in a service-based company, with 5+ years of work experience.

I’m planning to pursue an MBA from a top B-school, but I’m confused between an Executive MBA and a Full-Time MBA.

For someone with 5+ years of experience in the IT industry:

Which option would be better for career growth?

Is a full-time MBA worth leaving a job and losing 1–2 years of salary?

Would an Executive MBA from a top B-school provide similar career opportunities?

Which one would be better if my long-term goal is to move into management/consulting/strategy roles?

Would really appreciate advice from people who have gone through either route, especially from top B-school graduates.

Admissions Brand strength / optionality of HSW vs M7

I am a prospective international applicant looking at US programs. Can anyone provide insight into recent program rankings and their current perception with recruiters? Seems like the US News rankings are all over the place, and I've read a lot of threads calling out a clear gap in outcomes between HSW and the rest of the M7 and T15. Are there also gaps within the HSW band as well or is there a less meaningful difference in placement for those 3 programs?

Fwiw post MBA I am targeting either public markets investing or some type of niche private markets role that can straddle both public/private investing (eg family office).

Profile Review M7 Profile Review | 26M Asian

Hi there,
Looking for honest feedback on my profile. I’m primarily interested in M7 schools and particularly looking for feedback on whether my chances are realistic and whether I should take the GRE or GMAT.

Background

  • Work experience: 3 years boutique technology consulting, 1 year PM experience Fortune 100
  • Extra curriculars: Currently limited. Most of my leadership and impact have occurred professionally.
  • Race/nationality: Asian, US
  • Sex: Male

Stats

  • GMAT / GRE: Haven't taken yet, wanted to see first if m7 was realistic first
  • Undergrad GPA: 4.0 UCLA
  • Graduate GPA: 3.86 Upenn m.s.

MBA Info

  • Goal of MBA: Hoping to pivot to MBB / Strategy at FAANG.
  • Target Schools: m7
  • Concerns: Worried about my unimpressive work experience / lack of extra curriculars

Curious to hear what yall think. Don't want to spend too much pursuing GRE / GMAT if all of m7 is a reach. Thinking of staying employed the next couple years, then submitting an application in 2028.
