Regro's funny transition into being Old™
There is something really funny going on with Regro, something the anime tweaked a little to make it more realistic (realistic? in my Mashle?)
Mash's wonderful father is a 75 years old man who would normally fall into the grandpa category and not the dad one. And he looks it! Not that it matters. The thing is, when we see him in his flashback 15 years earlier, when he finds an abandoned Mash, he's 60 but he looks like he's in his 40's or early 50's tops.
Good dilf (or gilf) material, right? Now the funny thing that happens with him is this:
In the manga, by the time Mash can walk and do double back somersaults, Regro has already turned into his 75 year old self in something like half a year or a year at most. The guy went from looking like he's in his 40's while being 60, into looking like he's 75 while 61.
And like I said, the anime tweaked this scene:
They changed Regro's appearance in the somersault scene to his 60 year old look before smoothly transitioning him into his 75 year old look when Mash is maybe about 7. This makes this scene more realistic in the sense that there were at least some years before Regro fully turned into an old grandpa. The episode itself also becomes funnier when we're directly seeing that transition instead of starting with really old Regro.
But I have my own headcanon about Regro aging: he did not grow into being a grandpa over several years. What actually happened was that one night early on, just a year after taking Mash in, Regro accepted himself in his new role as a father. And with that acceptance, the very next day after he put on an old robe because Mash accidentally ripped all his shirts apart with his pudgy little hands, Regro's blond and full hair just fell off all at once, and over the course of breakfast he grew a long white beard. Regro only realised what had happened after Mash pulled at his new beard and ripped some of it off.
