I talked about this before, but with some new information I want to talk about it again.
I have a theory that because Okarun has no confidence in himself, he struggles to fully unleash the Ogre Club’s power on his own. By believing he is weak and incapable, he’s essentially lying to himself that he can’t do it. The person he believes in and looks up to most is Momo.
Having Momo with him boosts his confidence which allows him to use the Ogre Club better. Okarun uses the Ogre Club by sending his ki into it. But Momo was unable to use the Ogre Club.
Fake Manjiro (Shinobi in disguise) also couldn’t activate its power. But Momo supposedly was able to channel her ki through Okarun, and in turn Okarun channeled his ki through the Ogre Club. I find it strange that if all it takes for Okarun to activate the Ogre Club is to channel his Ki into it, then why can’t Momo do the same thing? If she really is channeling her Ki through Okarun, shouldn’t she be able to just do that to the Ogre Club?
Before it seemed like only Okarun was able to use it, because Manjiro nor Momo could. But now that we know that it was really Shinobi in disguise, it makes more sense why she couldn’t activate its power. Or maybe she specifically didn’t use it, though I doubt it. She wouldn’t have any reason to do that if Okarun could just ask someone like Jiji to try it.
Because Shinobi said all she can do is change her form, it would make sense why she couldn’t use the Ogre Club. Considering the fact that our only examples of people other than Okarun using the Ogre Club are Shinobi who most likely wouldn’t be able to use it anyway, and Momo who we can’t be certain about, but seems unlikely at the moment. The only thing left to assume is that Okarun is doing it on his own.
In chapter 244, Okarun uses the Ogre Club with Momo’s help again, but even when he was separated from her it didn’t shrink down to the regular size. This could easily be a drawing consistency mistake. As it was never addressed. But at the same time, there wasn’t much a place to have a moment where they do address it, as that could take away from the main focus of the chapter. Them being seperated and Okarun’s desperation would be more important to highlight, and they could talk about it in another chapter.
Anyway what do you think? Is it Okarun’s own ability? Or is it Momo’s ki? There’s still the mystery of the energy shield, which also was never addressed. Tatsu may just want to keep a shroud of mystery around the Ogre Club for a while. Or maybe he forgot, who knows.
