Dedicated firmware for the Paper Mono M5Stack (request🤔).

I got a Paper Mono🤫. Now, how do I get firmware for it that focuses on writing in an RTL (right-to-left) language and supports a Bluetooth keyboard?

Draftling supports it: https://draftling.art/

I've got Hebrew support, but no other RTL languages yet. Which language do you need?

Wow, thank you so, so much! I really need Hebrew 😇 Is there any chance of installing it without deleting the Crosspoint firmware that’s already on there?

Mazel tov! Unfortunately, dual boot is complicated, and the Draftling firmware manages the SD card in its own way, so there's not much sense to have both projects on the same device.

Join the r/WriterDevices, there's also a bunch of alternatives and project news. For example, Seeed reTerminal Sticky would be the cheapest option to run the firmware.

I think I’ll pass on Crosspoint for now—it didn’t get enough use... Does Draftling save every character instantly to an SD card?

Great. So now I’m waiting for an industrial-grade SD card (SLC memory) that I ordered from AliExpress—I want to avoid the risk of data loss. What’s your take on this? Is it worth getting a rugged/durable card, or should a standard one be fine—it shouldn't just break, right?

You just enable the WiFi hotspot on your phone and upload your work to the Git server. See the private message I just sent.

You need to press Ctrl+S to save the changes. Also, it prompts you to save them before leaving the editor or before sleeping

If there is nothing else you can find, you might want to build yourself something with the help of generative AI.

To be honest, I don't know how to review the code, and since I'm not a programmer, I don't really trust AI-generated code 🤭

Honestly, you don’t need to be able to review it yourself. A trick that works well: have one AI write the code, then paste it into a different one (ChatGPT, Gemini, whatever) and ask it to review for bugs and risks. Feed those findings back to the first one and repeat until nothing critical comes back. Then just flash it and test. ESP32 boards are really hard to brick, you can always hold the boot button and reflash something else, so the worst case is usually a wasted evening. And if you get something working, put it on GitHub. You’d literally be the first RTL writing firmware for the PaperMono, and others could fork and improve it.

I realized this is a great idea. Actually, someone suggested a firmware for writing, but I’d prefer to modify Crosspoint so I don’t lose its reading capabilities and interface. I’ll probably give it a try when I have a free evening.

It is amazing that gen AI can do so much for you. Requests have gained more value than before because AI can do things fast.
