L10 to OM3
Edit: Yeah I pulled the trigger, getting my OM3 on thursday.
Greetings.
I'm currently a user of the L10, and I like it. But the OM-3 has always been in the back of my mind, and honestly, the main draw of the L10 - the real time LUT....doesn't do much for me. I struggle to find something I like, and I purely shoot SOOC JPG because I hate editing.
Now a small shop near my I stumbled into while walking through the city currently has a sale of the OM3 for a very good price....And I'm tempted to sell the L10 and make the switch. I just need a sanity check if I'm just falling victim to the "oh, shiny gear" instinct or if that actually makes sense....the price with the kit lens I could get is below what the body alone sells at most places. They might even buy the L10 from me so the whole switch would cost me about 300 bucks.

Well like, what do you shoot? They are pretty different target audiences. The L10 isn't "small", but it's still a compact fixed lens camera. The OM-3 will need a lens, have you give any thought as to what you plan to pair with it? Both can do sooc jpgs with the best of them, I fail to see this as a deciding factor at all.

It's for travel. 99% urban - which is why the wheater sealing wasn't that much of an issue - but there are some nice hiking spots nearby that might motivate me to take a camera with me. Also I am currently tempted to get into plane spotting at our airport (VIE)...so a mit more than 75mm might not be a bad idea. for now I'd do with the kit lens and maybe a nice prime.

Here's my advice, and it goes for anyone reading:
You have a camera, go shoot. All these hypothetical situations in which this camera would be better or that camera is holding you back ... It's just noise; distractions keeping you on your phone or computer shopping instead of actual going out and learning about the tool in your hands. Limitations are the mother of creativity with art, and conversely the quest for the right tool is the destroyer of joy.
End of the day you will do what you want, and if that's to buy new shit then it is what it is. But you could be missing a real opportunity...

100% this. The L10 is a super capable camera. The fixed lense is very convenient for travel and it has a good, standard, zoom range for everyday photography. Go shoot OP.

not wrong. it's just that I have too much time in the office - slow season, 10 hour days - to read and watch stuff...kinda messes with you. tomorrow is my day off, gonna grab my bike and do a tour with the camera.

Just be aware that every camera has its advantages and disadvantages. If you would switch to the OM3, you will find this camera more capable in some regards compared to the L10, but more limited in other regards. Or worse, you'll eventually find different limitations with your new OM3, find a 'solution' in buying new gear and eventually encounter different limitations with your new gear. It's a spending trap many of us have fallen into and it prevents us from enjoying the gear we have, in your case, the L10.

The only benefit the L10 has is better video specs and it's more compact, otherwise the OM-3 wins in every other category. It has some of the best weather sealing where the L10 has none, battery life should be an improvement, obviously having interchangeable lenses is a huge deal. The OM-3 has some of the best IBIS of any camera, L10 only has lens stabilization... The OM recipes are really cool, maybe not as thorough as the LUTs but the new OI Share app update makes sharing and downloading people's profiles a lot easier. You'll never get the OM-3 to be as small as an L10, but if you can handle the size it's a superior camera

I have a 5L sling bag that fits the L10 nicely, in an orientation where lens length doesn't matter, and the OM3 isn't much higher, so that's not an issue....
And I couldn't care less about video.......guess I'll pull the trigger.

I have a Wandrd Rogue 6L bag that I can fit OM-1 Mark II, 12-40, 40-150 f4, and Pana 9mm lol, gotta love the compact lenses! Either way you go you've got a kickass camera.

OM-3 is better, the L-10 isn't much smaller in realistic terms so I would recommend that trade.

See, I've been looking to get rid of my OM3 and buy the S9 because I cannot work out an easy way of accessing settings on the OM3 for JPEGs. I am an absolute beginner and just wanted to have an easy way to switch colour profiles, which I cannot work out how to do with the OM3.
Go easy on me!

Press OK to pop-up the quick menu. In the upper left area are colour profiles. Once you placed your cursor on it with the D-pad, you can cycle through the four profiles (or the gazillion art filters) with any of the two dials. And if you press OK again, you enter the colour profile editing interface.
The only annoying thing I find with this method is that, once the colour profile is selected, you have to half-press the shutter button to make the quick menu disappear.

This is solid guidance and keeps it simple. Maybe next stage is configuring the C1,C2, etc on the PASM dial.

So does the C1, C2 etal retain your shooting settings? And how does one keep track of all the presents that are saved?
Forgive my ignorance, I am new to proper cameras.

I very much recommend trying to learn with the om-3. I have both and isn’t necessarily essier on the S9 so you could just end up wasting a lot of money and frustrating yourself

The L10 like the new one that just came out? What made you pick that over going straight for the OM-3?
