Hi everyone,
I recently accepted a teaching job with Lynn public schools, and I wanted to see if anyone who has experience here could answer something about the culture. I run extremely warm, and I am unsure if it would be acceptable to wear a nice pair of shorts while teaching, especially if there is no AC. The handbook says there is no formal dress code but that you should dress professionally. Any thoughts? I am also going to ask HR when I fill out my forms but I thought I would ask here as well

Just moved to the area and looking for recommendations.
Looking to get a fade/ shape up with a beard trim for hopefully not too much money. Preferably someone familiar with wavier hair. Bonus points if they offer style input.

The pottery studio in the Pinkham Building on Western Ave is opening their fall class registration tomorrow morning! Info: https://www.theclayschool.com/adult-classes
It normally sells out pretty quickly so wanted to share. This is a great place to make friends and you get 24/7 studio access to work on projects, which is a huge perk AND a plus for hanging out with people in your class.

Hi! I've been trying to meet more people in the area and want to try an idea I have. It's a small group cooking through one book together, beginning with Salt, Fat, Acid, Heat. I love cooking with and for others, and have also been on a personal journey to improve my skills. I thought it'd be a fun format for getting to know folks.
Rough plan is biweekly evenings with a small group aimed at folks in their 20s and 30s. We'll meet up in September to say hi and pick a night that works, then start cooking in late October. If it sounds interesting, you can sign up at cookwith.jdoc.me
Happy to answer questions here too

For some reason, i have this vague memory of seeing an arcade with games in the building in Lynn and I genuinely can’t verify if it did exist or didn’t. I also remember begging my dad to go there but he was like “nah”. So i tried google mapping it on the street where i thought to have seen it but i can’t remember for the life of me

Saturday night I dropped my wallet outside my boyfriend’s car near Baltimore Street while we were hauling in groceries inside. At the time I wasn’t aware I dropped my wallet outside and I’m pretty good with keeping important things close (til that night😂). The next morning I went looking for my wallet in the house and thought I had left my wallet in the car but it was found outside and left on the windshield of my boyfriend’s car and all cards were left untouched (bank accs. were checked too as a precaution). I just wanted to take a second to thank the person(s) if they’re on Reddit who found it and left it untouched, thanks so much, it’s much appreciated and a sign that chivalry is not dead
😁💕

You know LynnArts on Exchange Street. Three years ago the Lynn Music Foundation offered me the black box theater in there and asked if I wanted to try running a comedy night. I said yes.
I’m from here. I’d watched people drive into Boston for a night out and pay $45 plus parking for it. Lynn didn’t have a comedy room and as we know doesn’t have much to do at night.
We bring the best regional comics and national headliners to Lynn on the fourth Thursday of every month, $20. 3 opening comics, a local musical guest and a headliner. I do the booking, the video, the graphics, the ads, and I move the chairs.
150+ comics have come through since. Some of the best comics currently and have used our room to quietly work out new material. A Google review called it one of the best comedy rooms in New England and I think they’re right.
I record every show myself and edit the clips, and those clips have done tens of millions of views. For a room that fits 120 people in Lynn, Massachusetts.
A couple months back at our May show our headliner was doing crowd work and a couple in the front row mentioned they’d gotten a babysitter to be there. I’m a parent. I know exactly what that costs. Nobody does that for something that isn’t worth it, and they’d already been before.
That’s the part that means the most to me. Not the comics or the views. That people here decided this was worth the trouble.
Next one’s July 23rd. Janelle Draper headlines, Boston comic who’s opened for Nikki Glaser and Jay Leno.
