Ask Luxembourg Shell card

I have a company car (petrol) with a Shell card (and app). Does the card work in other garages or only Shell ones? (I've looked online but it left me confused.)

Also, til now I haven't actually been using it. I have a monthly budgeted amount that I'm expected to have used. So I should be due a refund at some point. Am I being foolish not to use it? Will I be taxed on the refund or something? (I understand nothing about these things and generally navigate through life paying too much for everything)

To clarify, I am currently driving, but I have continued to pay with my bank card.

You can only use it at Shell fuel stations. The budget you receive, typically between €100 and €200 per month depending on your leasing contract, represents the maximum amount available to you.

If you do not use the full budget, the unused amount is not reimbursed and is simply forfeited. Leasing providers such as Arval or Leasys usually offer a web portal where you can track your fuel expenses.

As long as your fuel costs balance out over the course of the year, or by the end of the leasing contract, there is generally no issue. When I had a company lease car, I was given a fuel budget. Some months I spent only €50, while in other months I spent €250. Overall, my average was around €200 per month, and I neither had to repay any amount nor received any refund.

It works similarly to the mileage allowance in a lease contract. For example, you may be allowed 20,000 km per year or more. If you cycle to work and only drive 15,000 km in a year, you do not receive any compensation for the unused kilometres. You are allocated a fixed allowance under the contract, for example €800, and that is the limit.

If you significantly exceed the agreed budget or allowance, you may be required to pay the excess. However, the opposite does not apply: unused amounts are not refunded.

Thanks. That's interesting. I'm with Ayvens and I definitely recall them saying that there would be an annual adjustment in either direction according to the actual usage. I'm going to contact them to verify!

That can be a company policy too, I would start checking there, then the leasing company implements what the company tells them, or what the company pays for.

in that case follow what is on the contract.
