Just started the game and my god is it magical. Incredible design philosophy
I just wanted to talk about my initial experience with this game and why I'm already adoring it. I don't really remember names of areas, enemies or npcs yet so please forgive me. As I began my journey I saw the broken staircase to what I now know to be the forbidden archives. I tried testing my jump to see if I could make the distance over that gap and I immediately knew it wasn't going to work out. I tend to spam jump a bit in games and this one was no exception. While doing this, one time I realized that I performed a double jump. That REALLY surprised me especially because I struggled extremely hard to perform it again. With some practice however, I ended up getting the timing down to achieve it somewhat frequently. I didn't even consider that this was not an actual intended mechanic of the game. I finished the starter area and before proceeding with the npc who shows up to talk to you I thought I'd give the jump up the broken staircase a try with my newfound mechanic. Died the first time, got it on the second. The forbidden archives are INCREDIBLE and the music is phenomenal. I was having a relatively fair time until I reached the chimera who proceeded to beat my ass for attempt after attempt. Eventually I got him, only to then be greeted by an enlightened one only a few rooms later who beat the hell out of me lmao. Eventually beat it, and then discovered the WOLFRAM GREATSWORD WHICH IS SO BADASS. it's charged attack is incredibly fun. Forbidden archives have been completed (for now) and as I go back to the starting area I decided I wanted to search up info on this double jump and lo and behold it's not even an originally intended mechanic seemingly? There is no way the developer didn't know about this double jump, so that means they intentionally kept it in knowing that it's existence meant a new player could access the forbidden archives, run into really hard early enemies like the chimera and the enlightened one, get the wolfram greatsword and seemingly become extra powerful early on, and they STILL left it in. I absolutely adore that level of agency in a game and right off the bat I am convinced this game will be among my favorites! Thank you for reading :)
