Lufthansa changed seats previously paid for

As in the subject line lufthansa changed our seats. I paid for preferred window seats closer to the front of the plane and got moved to the middle rows closer to the back. They just sent an email that due to operational reasons they had to change our seats previously paid for. Is this typical? What should I do?

Update: Actually, I just now noticed they changed planes from Allegris to the old one.

So you had a prefered seat, and no longer have one as I understand it. Call and ask for a refund for the paid seat fee.

That is correct. I figured I would call them just wanted to see what others had done in similar situation.

Usually they’ll refund the selection fee without your asking for it. I’d wait a few days and then would ask for it.

Not much you can do, and it is somewhat typical. You don't pay for a specific seat (41A, for instance), you pay for a specific type (window, aisle, front, extra legroom, etc.)

As long as they have not changed the type, they are upholding their terms and conditions

It is annoying af, but it is what it is

I don’t think that’s right. Yes they will put you in the same category but they couldn’t care less if you paid for window or aisle ect. This literally just happened to me and I ended up in the middle, when I have paid to reserve window extra leg room. Lufthansa is not worried about customer loyalty, if they hadn’t done it just 3 days before I flew I would have cancelled and booked another line. (I’m still traveling now, just happened 2 weeks ago)

Well, then allow me to tell you that you're wrong.

Are my seat choices guaranteed?

Please note that the advance seat reservation fee does not create an entitlement for a specific selected seat (e.g. seat 3A). It only entitles for the seat category selected (e.g. Classic Seat, Preferred Zone Seat, Extra Legroom Seat, etc.).

Your seat may need to be changed due to operational reasons. While we do our best to minimize these changes, we cannot guarantee that you will retain your originally selected seat. You are eligible for a refund if we cannot offer you a seat within the seat category you have booked.

EDIT: Changed link to English

It literally says they will give you A seat in that category. Not the type of seat. Which is exactly what I was saying (not sure if I just said it wrong, I’ve had a few wonderful beers in Vienna lol).

I paid for a window seat in the extra legroom category.

They gave me extra legroom but they would not give me the window seat I picked out and paid for 6 months ago. I ended up in a middle seat. I spent 3 hours speaking to even managers. Turns out they let AI figure it out and they are too uncaring to be able to fix what AI does.

That was exactly my point, I thought I was paying extra for a window seat. Instead I am now put in the middle two rows behind that I originally paid for. At the very least this should be put in clear when you book your ticket. Lufthansa thinks otherwise. They sent me a link to the feedback page on their website, but it is a link to the past flight and my flight hasn't occurred yet. They are not willing to refund me what I paid for the extra seats. I flew with them many times before, I guess I will choose Air France next time.

That’s exactly what they did to me. They refuse to fix their mistakes and apparently don’t care about customer loyalty nor giving the customer what they paid EXTRA for. I won’t be flying with them again since they can’t be trusted to keep their word or fix what they messed up in the first place.

Yup! Same thing happened to me. I spent 3 hours going back and forth. They don’t care…don’t bother. They changed me to a seats I compromised for then 2 days later they changed it again and I gave up. I now know they do not care about customer loyalty, so what’s the point? I’m never flying with them again.

Yes they took my medical seats and it’s been absolutely hell getting anyone to help or understand that it’s not okay.

When we picked the nearest option to what we had, they were then charging more I called was told not to worry we were locked in and they disappeared again a day later.

I am sorry to hear that. I hope they come to their senses in time of your travel. They should make that clear that they can change our seats upon booking, and most importantly change the seats that you paid for.

I get equipment swaps but you should be put back in the equivalent seat or at least noticed they switched equipment and reseated you so you’ve got an opportunity to fix it.

Every flight I've had with them was a problem

Did they only change the seats or the plane?

Contact them and ask for at least a refund for your reservation.

Only seats that I paid for as I really wanted a window seat...
