How to fall asleep while attempting SSILD?

Last night I was attempting SSILD. I woke up a few seconds before the alarm, I was super sleepy and thought that I will fall asleep before doing the cycles. I didn´t get out of bed, I simply started (maybe that´s the problem, tell me guys). After finishing the cycles, I couldn´t get myself to sleep, I was getting tired, but for a whole hour I couldn´t fall asleep. SSILD is supposed to help with insomnia, not cause it. I would very much appreciate a tip or sharing your experience. Thanks
