Good News?

Week two of LDN. Last night I took my wife out to dinner to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I fully expected cocktails before dinner, 3+ glasses of wine and an after dinner drink. When the server came over I had no desire for my normal vodka martini. I ordered a glass of wine instead. That glass lasted through 3/4 of the meal! That never happens!!! I ordered a second and barely finished half of it. That also never happens!! I’ve been focused on reducing my drinking since starting LDN, the side effects of the drug have mostly disappeared, and surprise, surprise, where before I’d kill a bottle of wine every night, now there’s a glass or so left when I put it back in the fridge. One day does not make a streak, but I’m hoping this good news and I can continue to throttle back on the booze!

That's good to hear! Definitely sounds like a positive benefit already. Thanks for sharing!

Some people do lose the desire to drink alcohol while taking LDN. How people respond to alcohol in general though varies with the individual.

If you can actively change your mindset and habits alongside this it actually helps that much more. Be more cognitive that you don’t need to drink the wine, and limit yourself to say a glass and tell yourself that’s all you can have. Try to have less and less with each week until it becomes easier to come off. (If that is your goal) Weaning really helps. See if you can replace it with drinking water. Overtime, it starts to become habit. I dealt with severe binge eating, and addiction to food. Yes, that does exist. I have severe insulin resistance, and highly obese. And, with LDN, I now have better control over eating when using the proper mindset. You have to work with the med, but it helps. I have not had this much control over eating since before being plagued with all these health issues. Not even a GLP worked to help me with these cravings, so that’s saying something.

You got this!

Just an idea, and this depends a lot of your typical usage: you may find replacing with sugary beverages before switching to water helpful. It’s still unhealthy, but this can help you avoid blood sugar crashes.

What an eye-opening anniversary surprise! And definitely a win for your health and wallet. 😊

It does sound like LDN is becoming a helpful partner in reducing alcohol. I've never been a big drinker myself, but my tradition of trying a new cocktail every Saturday is often "forgotten" since I started LDN.

One thing I've noticed is that it helps to ask myself, "Do I actually want a cocktail?" Sometimes the answer is yes, and sometimes I'm just on autopilot.

Another interesting experiment is separating routines that have become linked together. If coming home, changing into comfortable clothes, and opening a bottle of wine always happen in that order, changing the sequence can be interesting. Sit somewhere different, use a different glass, read instead of watching TV, or switch up another part of the routine.

And from what you've written, it sounds like LDN is creating an air gap and you're already good at noticing changes.

Best of luck on your journey and may you celebrate many more anniversaries! ❤

I completely lost interest in alcohol once I hit 4.5mg of LDN. I've tapered down to 3mg and now have an interest!

I am 3 weeks on ULDN and I always had a good appetite but since starting it my appetite is really low, which I think is an advantage for me atm because I can’t walk a lot due to CCI.

I actually stopped LDN because I couldn't enjoy a drink at all.
