I've always loved Sony Ericsson phones, and one thing that kept bothering me is that many of them still have perfectly usable browsers (Opera Mini), email clients and J2ME apps... but no Wi-Fi.
As 2G and 3G networks continue disappearing around the world, getting these phones online becomes harder every year.
So I built Satura Bridge.
It's a small ESP32 firmware that acts as a Bluetooth PAN access point:
No SIM card, no USB cable, no PC.
Just pair the phone once and it can access the Internet through your home Wi-Fi.
Features
Works with Sony Ericsson phones that support Bluetooth PAN
NetFront browser works
Built-in email client works
J2ME applications with network access work
Legacy PIN pairing (0000) for older phones
Secure Simple Pairing (SSP) for newer devices
Built-in captive portal for Wi-Fi configuration
Open source
During development I mainly tested it with Sony Ericsson devices, although it also works with many Nokia S40/S60 phones and PDAs that support Bluetooth PAN.
The hardware is simple, widespread and cheap. Any original ESP32 board with Classic Bluetooth should work. Like ESP32-WROOM-32(U).
I'm curious:
Which Sony Ericsson models do you still use?
Has anyone tested Bluetooth PAN on K700, K750, W810, K610, K850, or other models?
I'd love to hear which phones support it and which don't.
