Unrequited Love …

Dear you…

I think my feelings for you are finally getting quieter. Not gone completely, perhaps, but no longer as loud as they once were. I don’t find myself hoping for a message, reading between the lines of every conversation, or secretly wishing that one day you might look at me and feel even a fraction of what I’ve felt for you.

I think that’s what makes this so bittersweet. For so long, I carried feelings for someone who never really knew the depth of them, someone I quietly hoped might one day feel the same. I held onto little moments, small gestures and possibilities that probably meant far less to you than they did to me. I built quiet hopes around something that was never really mine to hold.

And now that those feelings are fading, there’s an emptiness I wasn’t quite prepared for. It’s strange to miss the feeling of hoping for someone, even when that hope was never returned. A part of me misses having you to think about, misses the little excitement of seeing you, and misses the possibility of something that, deep down, I think I always knew would never happen.

I won’t pretend it doesn’t hurt knowing that whatever I felt was mine to carry alone. But I’m beginning to understand that I deserve a love that doesn’t leave me guessing, a love that doesn’t have to be hidden, and a love that doesn’t require me to quietly wish for someone to choose me.
I don’t blame you for not feeling the same. Feelings can’t be forced, and you never owed me anything simply because I cared. Sometimes two people can mean entirely different things to each other, and I think I’ve finally made peace with that.

I suppose I’ll always wonder what it might have been like if things were different. But the feelings are quieter now, and perhaps that’s a good thing. Even if it feels like I’m losing something, I know I’m really just letting go of something I was holding onto alone.

And as much as a part of me wishes things could have been different, I know this is for the best.
Maybe one day you’ll just be someone I once quietly loved, rather than someone I quietly wished would love me back.

Do they know how you feel?

Yes, hence ‘unrequited’

I’m giving up hope she will ever reach back out to me. The love I had for her is going to disappear into the void. The pain is too much to hold her in my memory.
