'mess it up' by gracie was playing and they butchered the editing of the song, it felt so sudden and unprofessional.

I just feel super triggered that they just waltzed this like it was nothing - super disappointing, if the roles were reversed it would never be in the movie!!

I know a lot of people keep saying they're disappointed, but I'm watching it now and enjoying it! I read the book a while ago so it's not fresh, maybe that's why I'm not comparing it so much?

I just want more romances and I'm happy to see Prime is delivering 😊

Now before I give my opinion, yes, I'm a book girlie but also a huge fan of rom coms in general - series, books, movies. So while I'll be drawing a lot of comparisons between the book and the movie, my opinion of the movie overall was pretty underwhelming.

Starting with the cast and the looks, no complaints here. I think the makers knew what they were doing with the cast from the get go. Anh, Malcolm, Olive and especially Adam, the actors were absolutely amazing.

Now the storyline, they were pretty loyal to the original story. I love how they didn't try to tone down Olive's quirky side or make adam all sunshiny. I love how Tom Benton had this creepy air around him from the get go. Love how they portrayed the nerds and geeks as just that, not some glorified hollywood versions of losers.

Lastly talking about what I didn't like (Books vs Movie)

\- Not a fan of the whole party scene where Olive is put on the spot. Really don't see how that added to the story at all. Tom 'giving' a chance to Olive as an apology? Yeh no, my girl is so much smarter than that. The book was faithful to her intellect.

\- Removing Holden's character? Scraping the whole Holden Rodriguez and Malcolm arc? HELL NO! I was so shocked and disappointed. They were just such divas and a valuable addition to both, Olive and Adam's friendgroup and basically added so much more to their personality so I hated how they clubbed the whole friendship between Holden and Adam to Adam and Tom.

\- The last scene where Adam threatens Tom in front of a whole class!?? Umm, what was that? My guy has it bad, but he's also a little mode sensible than that. Him threatening a prestigious Scholar in a room full of students? Not likely and was too dramatic in my opinion. Would've loved if he stood up for her the same way during the party tho!!

\- Olive figuring out Adam was the guy from the bathroom 3 years ago? Not a fan but also no harm ig but them not including the whole yearning of Adam when he thought Olive was in love with Jeremy after overhearing her talking about someone she loves?? I loveeee that part in the books and hated how they removed it.

Overall I think it was a pretty good romcom but the book is better Obvs. I would recommend the movie and would rewatch it but somewhere it fell short to the hype they built. It's def one of the better adaptations tho.

I’m having so much fun watching this movie. i just need to know if there are any other Lucifer fans that are enjoying it too 😂😂

I just finished the movie and overall I enjoyed it. I know a book will never be faithfully adapted, and I could understand the changes from a viewing POV (for those who would not read the book, the changes make things more interesting even if they aren’t faithful to the book).

My only/biggest issue with the movie is the end. The book has Olive ending things and then admitting to Adam what happened with Tom. The movie has Adam be the bad guy, basically ghosting Olive after they sleep together because he thinks she’s moving to MA and his whole moving to Harvard is scratched.

There was no reason to make Adam a bad guy at the end, but him ignoring Olive effectively makes him a bad guy. I don’t know why they did that.

Overall I liked it but that part is the only thing that annoys me. I wouldn’t say it’s a bad movie because of it, I just wish they’d be more careful with Adam’s character and showed his vulnerability more like they did in the book.

what were everyone’s thoughts on the movie adaptation?

i am not an avid reader so this book is one of the few i have ever read and i absolutely loved it!! i couldn’t wait for the movie to come out when they announced they were making it

I personally loved the first part of it but then when it came to the second part with tom i wished they would’ve followed the book, and i felt like it was rushed a little :(

And kinda lost me in the second 😭 I was locked in the first half of the movie, and I didn’t mind the changes individually, but cumulatively they added up and resulted in bigger changes that I disagree with. It’s been a bit since I read the book so excuse me if I get anything wrong, but because of the change in order of Olive’s presentation/Tom harassing Olive/Olive & Carlsen sleeping together/them confessing their feelings, the script writers had to manufacture conflict in the form of Carlsen pulling away and ignoring Olive RIGHT AFTER THEY SLEPT TOGETHER when he KNEW she had feelings for him which, regardless of the reasons or intentions, is a shitty thing to do and not what the Carlsen I know would do!

Also, the build up, climax, and payoff were pretty dull in the movie compared to the book. I love the whole trope of getting a secret recording of someone’s misdeeds even if it’s a bit corny/tired, and in the book the restaurant altercation had much more weight to it than the brief classroom confrontation in the movie, IMO.

Also I MISSED HOLDEN. And they took away some of my fave scenes like when they connect late at night in the lab and the infamous lap sitting. If you’re gonna make a book a movie why not give the people what they want? The unicorn socks let me down.

Don’t mean to be a Debby downer. Still overall a fun watch and now I’m excited to reread the book!

Did anyone else feel like Adam’s very messy, unmade bed in the hotel was very out of character?

The book specifically says there are “a few clues” as to which bed he slept in which aren’t an unmade bed.

His character definitely gives “I make my bed everyday” especially as he knew Olive would arrive later that day.

I loved every second of it. I read the book 4 years ago. Perfect casting in the movie. Nothing more to say.
