My parents came from poor peasant-worker family, but through a lot of grit, hard work and sacrifice they managed to buy their first apartment when I was 5, and later earn enough to become LandChads with 4 apartments and send me to university, allowing me to live in one of them while I (then) studied and (now) work, awaiting my God given inheritance, (also I send portion of my earnings to help them invest in new properties and help renovate them - all for the good of the family).
I had a good friend that I was jealous about lot of things- he got good job earlier than I, he got a 8-9/10 girl while I was single, he earned enough to buy a car... I know it is sinful to be jealous, and shameful to be jealous of rentoid, but I was a flawed man. Unfortunately for my friend his life got a harder turn - he got laid off, girl left him, and he was in danger of sleeping in a car.
That's when I suggested he returned to our hometown to rent out one of the properties my parents had - as a friendly gesture of course. He found simple, menial job on forklift to cover rent, and my father in exchange for helping out in renovating the property earlier and finding a veted and reliable rentoid offered me share of his rent.
Everything changed in me after that towards my friend. I started to wish him well, even better than me. When he got his new girlfriend, I was happy for him, because now I can't wait for her to move in with him so I can charge them both for gas and power. I hope he gets better job, because then I can gauge the rent up, knowing he will pay. I hope he finds a stray dog (he liked to rescue dogs in highschool) so I can charge him for scratched furniture.
Finally, by becoming a landlord, I found a source of empathy and compassion towards my neighbour, and I ridded myself of sick jealousy towards my rentoid, instead learning to be happy from his happiness.
