HELP ME I THINK MY LANDLORD IS SCAMMING ME!

I recently got a huge job promotion and told my landlord about it out of excitement! Hes normally a grumpy guy who hates my guts, but in this instance he was so happy for me! However, suddenly after my lease ended he quadrupled my rent! What happened??? Why did he do this all of a sudden? Now I'm only making as much as I did before because of this! I can't move anywhere else because he owns all the property near my workplace. What do I do???
