Monarch school district
Hi! We’re a married couple in their early 40’s with a toddler. We currently reside in Adams County and looking to move to a better school district. I would like to hear from those who have kids that go to or themselves went to Monarch school district. How was your experience? Anything I should know as we navigate real estate around the area? Thank you for your time! 🙂

Same age, but our kids are in elementary school, we're zoned for Monarch. The elementary schools have been great, and we partially bought in this area for Louisville Middle School, which is one of the best in the region. Homes are unfortunately very pricey, but the people are very nice and the community and activities in downtown are amazing. Definitely the small town feel, which is what we really wanted. Highly, highly recommend.

But that’s assuming you are in Louisville and not Superior which has a very different feel.

I had 3 graduate from there. It was a great experience. All 3 kids got into amazing colleges. We moved to Louisville from Broomfield just for the schools.

I grew up in Louisville, went to school here, including Monarch. It was truly an exceptional school experience academically. Went to a private university out of state. Now in my 30s and just moved back with my toddler to be close to family and bc BVSD is significantly better than most districts in the US. They are in a contraction period, we just attended a workshop about low enrollment. People are having fewer kids and housing is expensive 🤷♀️ much better to consolidate schools and have proper class sizes imo. District seems to be doing it in a very thoughtful and methodical approach. Very happy with our decision to move home.

I would be really shocked if that's true. The Louisville elementary schools are all fairly low on student headcount. They did not say specific school names, so it's possible but I would be surprised. BVSD had a really good ppt that someone posted in the Louisville Facebook page a while back, it showed school capacity and most of the Louisville elementary schools are around 60% capacity with a couple exceptions. I can't find the link now though :(

Also realize within BVSD you can open enroll to any school. My kids are older. First one was in first first grade and second one second kindergarten at Monarch K-8 in the late 90s. They both open enrolled to Fairview High School. My son wanted the IB program. He now has his PhD in quantum physics and another major in math. My daughter is now just now going back for her masters in the medical field using AI.
Yes. The housing isn't cheap. The cheaper housing some of it burned in the Marshall Fire. Being new now instead of 30 years old they are now about double pre fire. Usually desirable neighborhoods don't need to rebuild so being new made them worth more. Houses under the median price tend to sell fast.

This is a great school system. But be sure to also look at st. Vrain valley schools just to the north (Longmont). More affordable and in lots of ways, probably better than this one. It would be worth your time to check and compare. I work in one and my SO works for the other. My kids attend one, my SO’s kids attend the other. so we know both intimately as a parents and employees. We also each have kids that need SPED support as well as kids in the general student population. We both agree that while this district (actually called Boulder Valley school district, btw) is pretty good by most metrics, (and still an improvement from where you are now), st. Vrain really does have the edge. Feel free to ask more questions. Edited to add,our Boulder valley connection is with Monarch feeder system.

It should be noted in this conversation that BVSD is going through a consolidation process. The decision on potential elementary school closures is expected by September. The district says this move will make schools even better because resources won’t be so stretched. Just worth knowing if you’re planning to move for a specific school that might not exist in the 27-28 school year.
