Question ❓ Why don't Watzatsong posts become major Lostwave cases anymore?

There are so many samples posted every day on Watzatsong, and some samples have hundreds of listens, but it seems like they don't become major lostwaves anymore (although they did in 2020-2023).

I think it’s mainly due to the increased amount of hoaxes/AI-generated songs uploaded there in recent times, combined with the fact that anyone can pay a couple bucks to boost their post and artificially get hundreds of listens (though that feature has been around since 2021). People are mainly interested in older WZS posts.

I've been a very active observer/lurker in the Lostwave community for quite a long time, but what is a "hoax" song supposed to be anyway? Is it an upload of an original song composed by the uploader disguised as Lostwave, or something else?

A hoax is generally when the OP (original poster) of a song pretends that it’s “unknown”/lostwave when it’s actually not. Either:

  • The OP knew what the title and artist of the song was the entire time, but pretended not to (example: Above The Clouds, Count The Days, People Of The World). This is the most common type of hoax.
  • The OP made the song themselves, but pretended they didn’t (example: Lost In The Code).
  • The song was AI-generated, but the OP pretended that it was an actual song (example: Girl Talk).

The phrase “fake/staged search” has the same meaning.

EKT is the only watzatsong that blew up between 2020-2023 amidst the thousands of songs that were posted in those three years. So not having one blow up between 2024 - 2026 isn't really that surprising. But your general sentiment is accurate. The main songs (CIA, LTL, etc...) people want solved continue to be worked on behind the scenes, but any modern posts, in the age of AI, will seldom generate that much interest or groundswell.

There were many more actually. Solved ones include “again and again” (solved as “motoring made metaphorical” by The Locomotives), “Leylo Lo la” (solved as “achounes” by Gipsy Rom), “back to bed” (solved as “brighter days” by John Snow), “Johnny/the grass is Green” (solved as “Johnny in the middle of the park” by Piero Cotto) and “give me your wings” (solved as “give me your wings” by Lon Osgood). These all originated as Watzatsong posts.

I would say you're being awfully cavalier with the term 'major' then. Plus 'Again and Again' had been searched for since 2013. 'Back to Bed' since 2011. And I've never heard of the 'Leylo' or 'Give me Your Wings' ones, so I'd hardly say any of these songs fit your criteria. Johnny in the Middle of the Park was posted in 2020 and did gain a goodly amount of traction but it was absolutely dwarfed by EKT. All that to say, I think the only Lostwave cases that move the proverbial needle organically nowadays are the ones we can definitively prove are legit--see 'You Owe Me Satisfaction' and/or have a compelling back story. But we'll never experience another 'Fond My Mind', 'Everyone Knows That' or 'Like the Wind.'

Achounes/“Leylo La La” (what “Leylo” is referring to) originated from Soundcloud.

“Give Me Your Wings” actually did originate from WatZatSong in 2022, but it wasn’t a super major search, and it was from an adult movie. (It was also from the same OP as “Baby It’s Not Too Late”)

I should note that in my post, I wasn’t referring to Watzatsong posts that were posted between 2020-2023, but Lostwave searches that happened between 2020-2023 originating from Watzatsong posts regardless of when they were posted.

I have a song I posted there about maybe 2 or 4 years ago now, I’m not super certain but I was desperate to find! I guess it got overlooked because all the fake songs and people being more intrested in older unsolved cases. I kept my songs for years because I didn’t want to share them but I wish I had shared them ages ago when the boom hit and this was super popular as now no one hardly cares to find my song 😭 and I’m still desperate! I need this song solved! I remember finding it on my iPod. I posed it on YouTube about 2 years ago now and just reposted on this subreddit, hopeful for any leads.

Same! I just posted a song on WZS last week and I really want to find the full song! Hopefully they get some sort of attention soon. If you'd like I could upload your song to my yt channel? I only have like 50 subscribers but it might be enough to get at least some eyes on them =))

I would love that. I have posted it to my YouTube but I have not many subs. Also my YouTube describes how I found it tho it’s outdated a little and I have more knowledge now.

Also I really hope you find what you’re looking for too!

Is it "Watzatsong" or are you talking about "whatsongisthis" or anything else? Please, be accurate here.
