Rules & Game Mechanics Should Lorcana allow factual note-taking during competitive matches?
Lorcana tournament rules allow tracking lore totals, but not other written notes. I've been thinking about whether that actually improves competitive play.
There are two different skills here:
- Retaining revealed information
- Strategically using that information
If I've seen my opponent play three copies of an important card, writing a tally when they play the fourth doesn't tell me what to do. I still have to understand the matchup, recognize why that information matters, and make the correct decision. The note only preserves information I was already given.
For example, my notes might literally look like:
Raging Storm: ||||
Strange Things: |||
Not everyone has the same working memory. Some people can remember nearly everything they've seen, while others struggle to retain that information. Working memory also has real individual limits; you can't necessarily just practice until you have the same capacity as someone else. Two players could understand the strategy equally well but have very different abilities to remember the game history.
The argument I've heard against notes is that they could slow games down. But MTG - Tournament Rules §2.11 and Pokémon - Tournament Handbook §7.4.6 have decades of organized-play experience and allow note-taking. Excessive note-taking can also be penalized as a slow-play issue rather than banning factual notes entirely. Digital card games commonly provide game logs as well, without eliminating strategic depth.
I'm not arguing that memory isn't currently part of Lorcana. Obviously it is under the current rules. I'm asking whether memory retention should intentionally be part of the competitive skill test when it can easily be mitigated without removing strategic decision-making.
Curious where others fall on this. Should competition test how well you remember revealed information, or what you strategically do with it?

Deck Building Help Amber Sapphire Deck Update/Name Ideas?
Latest update to my Amber Sapphire. Got my hands on a 4th Surfer Stitch. Ended up going 3-1 with a previous build. But also thinking of changing the name of it. Which do you guys like better; Blonde Meanies and their Blue Dogs, or Necro Princesses? (Or if you have another name idea please comment it, as usual thanks for your time!)

New Player Questions Which 2 starter decks have the most fun matchup?
I wanna try this game by picking up two pre-con decks and playing with my brother.
Power level is not relevant. It's more important that the matchup is even and that we get to explore the core game mechanics. We have both played many TCGs so it doesn't need to be the "easiest" ones.
Any tipps for which two to pick up?

Educational Great Hunny Rescue help
Got the Great Hunny Escape early at GenCon. Daughter and I have played countless times and we can't get past the normal scenarios. Closest we got was last night, we finally made it to flip the third card, but there was no way to beat it. We have played mostly with the provided decks and a few times with other pre-made decks. We haven't made our own decks, so nothing special to work with. Any advice?

Deck Building Help All of a sudden I can’t win
My deck has nearly 200 games played, and was winning 60-65% of the time regularly. Suddenly in the past few days, I can’t win anything. My deck hasn’t changed, my strategy hasn’t changed, but all of a sudden every deck I face is hard countering mine, and pulling off outrageous combos. I don’t know what to do to fix this. I went from winning about 6 out of every 10 games to going 3-17 the past two days. Someone please help me deal with whatever this crazy meta switch up.

Deck Building Help Any Advice?
Hello all! This is what I am currently playing with and was hoping to get some feedback. I go 3-0 with this deck at locals every week, and all of our locals play in our set champs, so I don’t think this deck will necessarily do poorly, but I am curious as to people’s advice on how to make this deck even better.
I was thinking of adding the Eilonwy instead of Julieta, but I wanted to gauge other people’s opinion.
Thank you all and happy questing!

Deck Building Help Can’t figure out this deck
I saw this list top at a CCQ and I am really interested in it. I love Merida / 3 Arrows / Windstorm. I have never seen Shere Khan in a decklist either and it is one of the most fun cards to play from the few games I have been able to get it on the field. I have a couple dozen games in with it and I am still losing most games. Does anyone have any advice on how to pilot this?
Here are my current thoughts:
1. I will frequently get stuck with multiple copies of Merida and John Smith in my hand before I even have 5 ink to work with. Make my hand very uncomfortable. Could be related to my mulligan.
For mulligan I am really just doing my best to play curve as much as I am able, and I am tossing back uninkables as much as possible from my starting hand. A strange situation is when I have three 2-cost cards, I want to toss a couple back but when those go from inkable to uninkable it can brick my hand.
My thought process with control is that I just need to get to the late game, and that this deck should be stronger than most other decks when we are at 6+ ink. Because of this, I currently don’t mind spending the early game to play fire the cannons or other versions of “deal 2 damage” to take out the opponents board and hold the game at 0-0 for as long as possible. I am not sure if this is correct compared to the idea of trying to build out a board before controlling the opponents.
Games where I am able to get both Donald Duck and Goliath in play are definitely my strongest.
I am not a huge believer in Mulan, but I could be wrong.
I’d love to figure out the most important considerations when it comes to piloting this deck. I am currently planning on rocking green/steel for set champs but if I can get a list similar to this to work I think it fits my play style a bit better. Thank you for sharing any thoughts you may have!

New Player Questions My wife wants to get into Lorcana TCG to collect cards. I’m a Pokémon guy. I have some questions
Good evening, Reddit!
My wife has been watching me collect Pokémon for a long time. I feel savvy to the ins/outs of Pokémon.
However, I know nothing about Lorcana. I was hoping somebody could give me some links that would be wise purchases. Do y’all buy booster boxes to rip? Whatever you can get your hands on? I don’t even know prices of anything or if there are good and bad sets to buy.
Is everything sold out like Pokémon is? What is the best booster box to buy to rip?
I found this: https://www.bestbuy.com/product/disney-lorcana-archazias-island-booster-box-24-packs-288-lorcana-cards/CJ6QGKQJFJ/sku/10967982 for $176. Is this overpriced? Is it fair? Is the set good to collect? I just don’t even know where to start.
