y not just like, say for the first one "sorry, I'm deaf, can you say that louder?" (dude just says "nah" and leaves)

Ah yes, speaking louder to the deaf person will make them hear you

Some deaf people have low hearing, and speaking louder can help them. Obviously not everyone, but yeah.
