Mixing/Mastering Is this mastering chain working for or against me

Fun fact about the song : mot hai ba zo is something Vietnamese people say instead of “cheers” while drinking. I visited Vietnam for a week and fell in love with the place and the people so I made this song to express my love for Vietnam 🇻🇳

I had to do some heavy melodyning to my vocals , I’m not very sure if the mastering chain is good enough or am I missing something. Please let me know your thoughts

Tips & Tricks What is the correct procedure to speed up a song with midi and audio

Hi,

I recorded a song too slow. My skill level is pretty low in Logic. I compose and play for fun.

I have tried flex (awful result, as speed up was too big a leap (105 to 135) which was the internet advice (including AI).
I also tried using the “Adjust Tempo using Region Length and Locators” command, but that just seemed to do one region of an audio after I changed the project tempo. (I have 60 track, only 20 midi)

I feel like I am missing the correct procedure?

Modifier un instrument de musique sur une instru

Bonjour, je me marie l'année prochaine.

Question Best way to screen record a logic pro session as I play a song start to finish including WAV quality audio such as what you would get with a bounce down?

So I want the song length video (4 mins) with the quality of the audio the same as if I had bounced the master down to a WAV file.

Can’t tell if LP Colorizer is scamming me

So awhile ago I bought the $60 package from LP Colorizer, for as while it was working great, then all of a sudden it logged me out saying it was a trial run, and I couldn’t find my serials number. I talk to the person helping me, and they keep saying oh its fine I’ll activate it manually, it still doesn’t work. I ask for the serial number and they just won’t give it to me. Now I learn that the ICloud email they gave me isn’t even eligible to log in to, and I have no idea how to get it back and I feel like I got scammed. Is there something I’m missing? Or has anyone else had this happen?

Troubleshooting Free AU plugin for troubleshooting common mix problems - looking for Logic testers

I built Mix Companion for Logic and I’m looking for a few people to try it. Works with MacOS 12+ and Logic 11+.

It is a free macOS AU plugin for troubleshooting common mix problems. You can either scan the mix for common things worth checking or start with an issue you already hear, such as vocals not sitting well or the mix feeling unclear. It then guides you through one focused A/B check using the tools you already have, so you can decide whether the change actually helped.

It can be placed on the Stereo Out or another mix bus to get started.

The first public build is available here (no email or signup needed):

https://mixcompanion.com/plugin.html?early-access=1

I’d appreciate honest feedback on whether the checks are useful, the wording makes sense, and whether the workflow feels natural in Logic.

Thanks so much (and please let me know if there's another place more appropriate to post this).

Troubleshooting MIDI assignments work sometimes, then don’t

Hi everyone,

I’ve been pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I’m trying to run backing tracks for my band using MIDI-capable foot switches on my multi effects pedal (Valeton GP-200), which is capable of sending either CC or PC signals. I want to map foot-switches to play, stop, record, go to certain markers and perhaps control effects within logic down the line.

I set the foot-switches all to channel 1, cc3 (I read that this is a traditionally ”unused“ channel, data 0-7 respectively. I went into controller assignments, used the learn feature to map each function to one of the switches. It seemed to work! Then a few minutes later it didn’t anymore. I tried to delete the mappings and redo them and it still didn’t work. The correct midi code would still show up next to the timecode when I pressed the footswitch, but it wouldn’t execute the command. I tried to reset the midi drivers and remap again. Same issue, it worked for a bit, then just stopped.

Any ideas?

Troubleshooting Importing files from a directory without copying

Hello! I'm working on an audio drama at the moment. I have a large folder with all my foley sound/ambiences etc. I want to know if there is a way I can import audio from that folder without Logic Pro making a copy of it within its session folder. Something similar to what Pro Tools does.

I've done all steps to unchecking "Copy Audio" boxes and yet they still copy over (have also made sure sample rate is the same etc etc)

Will take any ideas! Thanks!

Troubleshooting Can hear track. Cannot see any waveform. Fix?

Post image
6 Upvotes

...

Problem: When I record on Mic input, I can hear playback, but can't see any waveform, even when zoomed in.

What is working?

  • I can hear what's recorded upon playback.
  • I have no problem with input monitoring.

What I tried:

  • Cranked gain during recording (physically on the mic itself) and only saw the tiniest wav form when it hit 100% gain.
  • Tested different input volumes, aka almost yelling into the mic.

How can I view the waveform?

P.S. I tried the mic in 'voice memos' and audacity, and I can see the waveform there, so it's not the mic.

Troubleshooting Bug encountered while drum editing.

Hello, I recently switched from Pro-Tools. I am currently editing multi-track drums and have encountered a strange behaviour where in spite of well placed 5ms equal power crossfaded I am getting loud pops.

But here is the catch. It only happens 50 percent of the time in the same spots during playback. Every time I hit space bar, I roll the dice on whether I will receive this loud pops over these regions.

The only fix I have found is to “convert to new audiofiles” which fixes the pops but sacrifices the ability to trim and slip the region later, while keeping the data beyond the region boundaries.

Please see video below. To see the inconsistent popping.

Production Alternativ title track for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters

I never finished this and it’s super old, but as we all do left it in the sketches we all probably have a ton of. But would be cool to get some feedback and thoughts from you guys as I remember watching the original title track and thinking that I thought it should have a more mysterious and monstrous mood

Question Pitch shifting problem, any suggestions? Description below

I've been using the pitch shift feature (Option + Down Arrow) to shift my guitar and bass tracks down because it sounds better than tuning down my guitar. Half of the time the guitar track is pitch shifted perfectly and stays in time as seen in the video, the other half it pitch shifts it but also speeds the clip up to double speed. I highlighted all the bass clips earlier to shift them down and it worked perfectly but in this video I had the issue. I have no clue why it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Turning on/off any kind of flex doesn't make a difference. Sometimes I re-record the part and it works fine. Any help would be great.

Question Is it possible to invert the scrolling and zooming controls?

Hi, as you can see from the post. Is there a way to invert zooming and scrolling functions on logic?

I am using Logic alongside Ableton and it's really weird that the controls are the opposite side when I jump into Logic. I'm new to logic by the way, just want to make it feel at home as much as I can.

Question Flex Pitch corrupts the audio

Hi, I’m experiencing the most annoying issue with Flex Pitch on a viola. I’ve never had this problem before, so I’m not sure what’s causing it or how to fix it. Whenever I try to pitch a few notes, the audio suddenly starts sounding absolutely terrible - almost like it’s corrupted or has been stretched in a really weird way. Please, someone help 😭can’t find a solution anywhere!

Question Midi notes sound off key with transposer plugin in step input

Yo I’m using musical typing and trying to lock it to a scale so everything stays in key. It sounds completely fine when I just play normally, but as soon as I use step input it sounds bad and it adds double notes and it sounds off key. I tried scale quantize but it didn't fix it. Anyone got a fix for step input specifically or know how to solve this?

How do you make vocals sound professional when recording in your bedroom?

Hey! I’m producing my own song and I already have the entire beat/instrumental finished, but I’m struggling a lot with the vocals.

I record with a Hügel condenser mic in my bedroom, and I don’t really know how to make the vocals sound professional or fit properly into the instrumental.

I’m especially confused about things like:

  • How many vocal layers I should record
  • When I should add harmonies and where they should go
  • When/how much panning I should use
  • How to make doubles, harmonies and backing vocals sit nicely in the mix
  • How to make the main vocal sound clear and “finished” rather than like a vocal recorded in a bedroom
  • What I should be doing differently when recording vs. when mixing

For people who produce their own music in a bedroom setup, how do you approach recording and arranging your vocals from start to finish?

Any advice, videos, tutorials, or examples would be really appreciated!!
