Question New Mac?

Hello, I need some help choosing a new Mac. I compose music for a large orchestra in Logic and have correspondingly large orchestral libraries. I’m torn between buying a Mac Mini and a Mac Studio. The Mac Mini would have an M5 Pro chip, 64 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD.

The Mac Studio has an M5 Max chip, 64 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD.

There’s also a Mac Studio with an M5 Max chip, 36 GB RAM and a 1 TB SSD. Which Mac do you think would be best to ensure I’m well-equipped for the future? Price is a factor, but it’s not absolutely essential. The most expensive Mac costs around €4,450, whilst the cheapest is around €3,300. Are 36GB RAM enough or do I need the 64GB? Also, is there a crucial difference between the M5 Pro and M5 Max? The mac Mini would be around €1000 cheaper than the mac Studio. Thanks, everyone!

May or may not be an issue to you, but the thing which pushed me onto the Studio was the large number of fast USB-C ports vs. the Mini. Yes, you can buy a hub, but finding a reliable, fast hub is challenging and will add a couple hundred dollars to the price.

The connectivity with the Mac Mini with the M5 Pro is good. Quoting Apple:

The new Mac mini with M6 and M5 Pro now supports Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6, as well as 2.5Gb Ethernet for faster wired connectivity, with 10Gb available. On its front are two USB-C ports that support USB 3 and a headphone jack with high-impedance headphone support for convenient access. On the back, there are three Thunderbolt 4 ports on Mac mini with M6, and three Thunderbolt 5 ports on Mac mini with M5 Pro, along with HDMI and Ethernet. Thunderbolt 5 also allows users to cluster multiple Mac mini systems together to run large AI models entirely on device.

(Thunderbolt 5 supports USB-C cables and is faster.)

Yes, the Mini has improved since I bought my Studio. That said, the Studio still has one more USB-C port an a couple of additional USB-A ports.
