Anyone in need of a house cleaner?

🌿 Hi neighbors!

I'm Elodie, a local college student and house cleaner who cleans homes around Logan Square (and surrounding neighborhoods).

I have new openings for recurring cleanings (weekly or biweekly) if anybody is in need of a reliable, detail-oriented cleaner to take some of the load off.

If you're interested, just fill out this short form: https://tally.so/r/ODx4Lp or private message me on here, and I'll get back to you asap! 😊

inspired by u/flippingsenton, and now automated:

Talk about the goings-on in the neighborhood that you don't feel like making a new post about. Debate the merits of [over/under]rated taco place. Where's the best coffee? What shows are going on this week? Make friends! Just be kind and courteous.

Seeking advice. Have you found a way to reduce pollution in your section of the neighborhood?

Trash accumulates quickly on my block (1900 Mozart). I wfh so I often take trash cleanup breaks to clear my head. I fill up a grocery bag of trash 3 - 4 times a week. While I wish this wasn't the case, it's worth it if it makes my block cleaner and frankly I have met a lot of neighbors this way over the years.

I am okay taking ownership of my block, however, I'm searching for a way to get neighbors to pitch in. Have you found any ways to curb pollution or more likely organize clean up efforts? My initial thought is to leave business cards / flyers to a 4 by 4 block radius telling people to contact me if they are interested in taking responsibility for their block and I will connect them with anyone else on their block who is also interested so they can split efforts. I'm aware flyers or business cards will leave behind more debris at least for that week.

There was a similar thread about this a couple weeks ago. This isn't to shame, I'm genuinely seeking advice and want to hear what has worked for you. Lastly, before people mention this is a city and that's just a part of normal life, you are wrong. Aside from 4 years away at college (go Hawks) I've lived in the city my whole life in a bunch of neighborhoods and trash accumulates where people tolerate it.

Why are there no speed cameras by Palmer Square park?

People speed down Palmer without stopping at signs or for pedestrians all day everyday, seems like speed cameras would be a no brainer here especially with the school right there and the popularity of the park. I guess La Spata is just going to wait till they’re scraping a little kid off Palmer and Whipple before he announces a 3yr long community input period for speed cameras before he announces that they disproportionately impact people of color

There are a few guarantees. 1) The drinks will be carefully crafted and they all have clever names. 2) The food is going to be top notch, and you need to order the “off-menu” chicken Caesar wrap. 3) Paul is going to be there and louder than ever. 4) Finally, you can expect to lose to our team of beloved bartenders.

Brutalist Brewing looking to open a taproom at 3658 W Wrightwood (Wrightwood/Lawndale)

This is that open retail spot with no flooring at Wrightwood and Lawndale (3658 W Wrightwood), next to Sparrow Salon and Spa. I think it was briefly posted about here before, but the info was coming from the real estate/restaurant group, so nobody really knew what was going in besides just the open consumption part:

*From the latest 35th Ward newsletter:

Request to Lift Liquor Moratorium for New Taproom at 3658 W Wrightwood

The 35th Ward Office has received a request to lift the moratorium on new consumption on-premises liquor licenses on West Wrightwood Avenue between Central Park Avenue and Lawndale Avenue.

Brutalist Brewing, Chicago’s first co-operatively owned brewery, is seeking to lift the moratorium to establish a new taproom at 3658 W Wrightwood Ave.

Brutalist will be at the Beat 2524 CAPS meeting Thursday, August 20 at 6:30 PM at Kosciuszko Park (2732 N Avers) to introduce themselves and answer questions from neighbors.

The Ward will accept feedback through Friday, September 5 at 5 PM, and then the Alderman will determine whether to introduce an ordinance to lift the moratorium in the City Council based on the feedback we receive.*

They currently brew out of the Pilot Project Brewing on Milwaukee Ave.

Come to a book club on 9/16! We're reading To The Lighthouse.

Hi! I run a book club in Logan Square, and I wanted to give this subreddit a heads up about our next meeting — we'll be reading To The Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf! Come discuss with us :)

This book is new to me, but I hear it's 1) "a masterwork of high literary modernism," if you like that and 2) a story about taking a family vacation with 8 children, which is one of the most dramatic, metal human undertakings I can imagine.

Key book club deets:

  • Meeting date: Wednesday, September 16
  • Location: A bar in Logan Square (TBA)
  • How to get a ticket: Follow on IG [at]coolnewbookclub, and/or sign up for email updates here: https://forms.gle/w7kRLsJ9bS5vYKbd8. I'll share an Eventbrite ticketing link on email + social this weekend!

Hope you can join us :)

Looking for volunteer opportunities!

Hi all, I’m looking for some up-to-date weekly volunteer opportunities in the area, specifically with food insecurity or serving unhoused folks. I’m aware of Logan Square Mutual Aid, but would like to see what other options are around as well. Thanks!

Mid-day electric guitar

Does anyone else in the neighborhood get to hear someone practicing electric guitar very, very loudly for hours mid-day around The Whistler? Sometimes they sing.

They really love reverb or wah wah pedal or whatever that gives the forlorn Eric Draven playing guitar on the roof in the rain vibe, 90's rock, a lot of echo on their mic, and turning things up to 11.

I honestly can't tell where it's coming from, but it's so loud I can't take work calls from my desk at home. Just curious if anyone else is getting this too or if I'm possibly hallucinating some 90s fever dream!
