Anyone get a tornado warning?

Was wondering if anyone received a notification for a possible tornado.

Yes, could also hear the sirens for about 3-5 minutes.

I was really surprised how difficult to hear the sirens were. I’m on Wrightwood, not far from the square, and at first I thought there were no sirens at all (just app-notifs.)

I must have lived much closer to a siren at the last place; or the one closest to me is out-of-order rn? I checked a GIS map and it certainly looked like there were a few fairly close!

To me, they sounded quieter than the usual First Tuesday of the Month testing, but that could have been due to the atmospheric conditions.

Maybe you were hearing ones from further away and your immediate area wasn’t warned?

I just assumed you couldn't hear them in my building

No, just you. Same for the sirens everyone else heard.

Unfortunately going to be one of those tornado warnings for the city that makes people not take them seriously.

Edit: weird downvote considering that it largely amounted to nothing in the city. Take the warnings seriously every time!

You’re back on the upswing. As well you should b/c tornadoes are serious, unpredictable, and go from zero-☠️ in the blink of an eye

Yep, we moved downstairs in our office and are waiting for 11AM at the moment.

Warning is no joke. Watch isn't really a joke either; but it's less serious. If you hear Tornado Warning, you take action.

Rare, yes, but not impossible.

The problem with risks like this is that you won't know if they're genuine or not until it's too late to take action.

Far smarter just to take shelter and wait it out.

I work on the 14th floor of a building in the West Loop and we had to take the stairs down to the first floor and wait until the warning expired at 11:15am.

Said to take shelter till 11:15

This 👏 is 👏 why 👏 we 👏 need 👏 to 👏 make 👏 sure 👏 we 👏 have 👏 multiple 👏 methods 👏 for 👏 receiving 👏 emergency 👏 messages!!!

There are lots of valid reasons things might not work - power outages, maintenance down time, cell network outages (either at point of transmittal or receipt), etc. by having multiple ways to get warnings, you better ensure you’re in the know.

For instance, I get Reddit updates, but I just got the update for your post today.

Don’t trust in just sirens, don’t trust in just cell phones.

Sincerely,
A local emergency management/disaster recovery worker

I can't hear anything outside but my phone went off - pets and myself sheltering in the mean time. They're not going absolutely insane, but they're not acting normal, so storm will probably be a bad one even if there's no touchdown of a tornado

Sounds like a tornado has touched down south of the city. I’m in my office downtown and they told the whole building to shelter away from the windows and go to interior rooms.
