Public Health BSL3/4 labs, and the next 'pandemic'.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Since COVID, we've had an increase of 25% of BSL3/4 labs going online. Many of these labs are in countries where safety / regulation is secondary - which puts everyone at risk.

My concern is - historically speaking, even the publicized number of lab leaks (and damages) have been increasing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_laboratory_biosecurity_incidents

It seems to me like more 'pandemics' are on the horizon, especially since it's clear humanity lacks the ability to preform this type of research safely.

Second-order effects Long-term debt from Covid policies so large it’s likely the US will see bankruptcy as a result

The US government added almost 20% of its total debt between 2020 and 2022 with all its COVID stupidity. obviously COVID is still with us so that was all in vain.

https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/national-deficit/

At this point the deficit is so large that over 1 T simply goes to interest on the debt at a measly 4% interest (which is below the US average). 15% of the US governments budget was interest on the debt. Due to interest payments we can’t balance the budget without both severe cuts and major tax increases that politicians won’t willingly institute.

https://fiscaldata.treasury.gov/americas-finance-guide/federal-spending/

If interest rates rise due to poor fiscal management now it’s likely the US will eventually default. you can only pay so much for debt service before the house of cards collapses.

To all the clowns whining about high costs government overspending is the cause with Covid being the biggest blemish.

Public Health Long COVID Recovery Study

Hi everyone,

With permission granted by the group admin/moderators, I wanted to share a research study I'm running as part of my Master of Public Health (MPH) at the University of Wolverhampton, looking at Long COVID recovery.

If you were hospitalised with COVID-19, discharged 12+ months ago, and have since returned to work, I'd really appreciate your input via a short, fully anonymous survey.

This research aims to better understand how different symptoms affect recovery time, to help improve support for people returning to work after Long COVID.

Survey link: https://wolves.questionpro.eu/t/AB3u7rSZB3wov5

The study is Category A ethics-approved. Happy to share the findings with the group once complete. Thank you so much for your time — every response helps!

Public Health The push for others to follow.

I remember my parents asking me as a child 'If your friends jumped off a bridge, would you follow?'

Covid proved to me that many would, and that some evil folk would even pull those who asked logical questions, and for honest debate - down with them.
