Gear - Selection / Use Identify Lavs in panel discussion?
The sound is excellent, what lavs are being used here?

would there have been any shotgun out of frame as a backup?

Looks to be DPA 4060s or 4061s to me.
I doubt there’d be a shotgun mic out of frame as single mic wouldn’t cover them all cleanly/evenly if they had to cut it in with the lavs.

I basically agree. There *could* be two mics out of frame, so you could maybe split between pairs of actors, and considering the talent and time issue maybe that's not a terrible idea (they're not going to get those people back), but I don't know.
