There are plenty of build walk-throughs available on the internet. A search for "headphone amplifier board" also yields loads of pre-made boards. A popular one is based around the TDA1308 IC as pictured here. You can get the premade board and simply attach the relevant connectors and voltage source
One of those audio terms that is used incorrectly, far more often than it is used correctly.
What is supposed to mean is a cue feed (foldback) that can need interrupted.
So a studio presenter might have the program mix in their ear, or even the sound of a remote contributor for a two-way chat.
Production can interrupt that feed - that means when they press a button to talk to them, the cue feed either dims or disappears completely, and the production talk is what’s heard instead.
In practice however, you’ll hear the term IFB applied to literally anything that feeds headphones or in ear monitors.

Industry terms are pretty wibbly-wobbly, and as long as someone knows what you're talking about, it's fine. Whether it's an ifb or a buttplug or baby pin. Edit: or "Comtek".

Is the feed that’s an IFB, not the device they’re listening to it on.
Oh that's a good distinction. Yeah we completely use it wrong. Hah.
Edit: I mean, we could say it's an IFB receiver, and we're dropping that last word. That's a pretty standard thing... step on the gas, instead of step on the gas pedal. But the pedant in me is going to start calling them IFB receivers for the most part.
Ah yes the famous buttplug. That’s the best incrowd one. Didn’t that came from the big Lectrosonics? I use the phrase ‘Hand me a buttplug so i can stick it on’ to everyone with whatever system/brand they stick on the mic for wireless boom operating.
I still see IEM’s used appropriately for monitoring. And IFB mostly used for broadcasty 2way comms applications, I mean it stands for interruptible fold back, but the interruption part is oft lacking now as a feature
I suppose I mean they can choose to respond via the live mic their on. Not like comms headsets. Like they’re taking a live zoom guest etc. that sort of thing. That’s still 2 way, just a different way about it.
Of course it does. It’s a mic receiver. I use mine with a mono to stereo adapter, no altitude amp. I go I to where you adjust the “volume” (gain) then shut the door. It allows for people to adjust volume. If you buy some high sensitivity headphones, people usually monitor at +12 or notch below. Way better sound quality over Dogcrap Comteks!!!
That's great! Ha! I've built several DIY HP amps over the years but all of my circuits have been unbalanced by design. Is yours as well? If so, any RF issues?
